Brought moms here for her BDay for some authentic Guatemalan food, the parents loved it !! They said it felt like they were back home. It’s a small business but the service here is great. The bread is also delicious !! The pineapple water is DELICIOUS !!!

Found this place by accident. I was craving some tostadas and atol de elote and it was what I was craving for. The ladies taking care of things are very nice, I will definitely come back again and again.

You better brush up on your Spanish before coming here, because that’s what you’ll be speaking. I welcomed this, because I’m preparing for a trip to Nicaragua in August and my once AP-high-school level Spanish has devolved into my responding ‘un poquito’ when I am asked whether I speak. Here I was forced to speak more than a little. Yay! I didn’t recognize half the fruit on the juice list and our nice waiter was happy to make me a combination of the nance and the jocote, after clarifying that one was a red fruit and the other was a yellow fruit. Or at least that’s all I understood. The flavor was somewhat familiar — I think the Salvadorean food tent at the Long Beach Farmers Market has similar ingredients in his mixed fruit juice. I also ordered the revolcado, which was described on the menu as Guatemalan pork stew. I did not know it was pig head and entrails until I went home later and looked up a recipe. Now, let me preface what I am about to say by clarifying that I have eaten a lot of ‘weird’ meats and animal parts. I have also eaten dog — one or two bites of it — in Indonesia. My first impression of this revolcado was that it tasted like dog meat. I’m not saying it WAS dog meat, at all — I’m saying it tasted like it. Dog meat tends to taste extremely gamy, and so do certain organs… of any animal. But that’s the memory that popped into my head when I took my first bite of the stew. In this pig’s head there were recognizable cheeks(fatty strips, kind of like unfried chicharrones — these are the only thing I positively identified as face parts before seeing the recipe). There were other pieces that were almost custardy, like liver pâté, and some that were really chewy, like tripe. I found the whole thing interesting on the teeth but ultimately too one-note. The dominant flavor was gamy, and any spices in the curry got pushed to the side. The muddy beans, so watery they fell through my fork, were nonetheless great, as was the rice. I would like to come back and try the other things on the menu, especially the garnachas and various breakfast combos. I’ll never say no to a good Central American breakfast.

I accidentally ate hear trying to find the place next door Lmao, I was too embarrassed to leave when I asked so I tried the food. the food is really amazing but the prices are a bit steep in my opinion. I’d recommend the tamales. They’re about four bucks a piece which is outrageous to be honest but they are really good. not four dollars good but really good. better than your average tamale. anyway the food is really good the service is good, the people are really friendly, and hey they have bread. plates average to about 10 dollars which is again a bit steep but hey the food is really good. I’d eat here again. but I really wanted to try the food next door to be honest. really bad location for it. Salvadoran food beats Guatemalan food any day just saying. i wish them good luck.

Delicious Delicious! We order Caldo de Galliba y Atol de Platano, it was AMAZING! A little too salty for my liking but still good. And the prices are reasonable. We will definitely come back!

Accidentally ran into this place and I’m so glad I did! Garnachas, garnachas, garnachas… yum. I no longer have to beg my uncle to make them when he visits. My new favorite place :)

Really delicious Pepian de Gallina(chicken in non-spicy gravy or sauce) and Caldo de Gallina(chicken soup). The owner also offered us a sample of homemade guacamole and two small cups of horchata and Jamaica drinks. Guatemalan Horchata is very different from Mexican Horchata where the Guatemalan one has thicker texture with maize kind of taste(not sure though). Jamaica is a hibiscus purple drink with a slight sweetness. The owner also showed us a sample of cream chicken dish which looked amazing! If you want to try non-spicy Latin American food that tastes refreshingly simple, I recommend this place. It is also a bakery and we must try the different kinds of bread next time.

I just moved out here three years ago and I missed the original guatemalan flavor so when I tried the food from Channy’s restaurant definitely felt like back home. We tried the Pepian de gallina and wouww the hen was just perfectly cooked, with flavor of the pepian was very traditional and just amazingly accompanied with the hand make tortillas. The black beens were just delicious, maybe a little bit salted. I also tried the Revolcado! just PERFECT! The chile relleno was soooooo good too :) and the refrescos or aguas frescas were amazing too. The bread looked so amazing so I’m definitely coming back to try that.(Try the Chocopinas too!)

Decided to give this place a try today after discovering it last night while getting food next door. My hopes were pretty high having visited the country of Guatemala and experiencing their authentic food. Not to mention being married to a «Chapina» she to was hoping to find a local spot with food to remind her of home made family cooking. WELL, we were not disappointed! We ordered both pork and chicken tamales and they were unbelievably scrumptious and had a very authentic taste and size. In addition we had a large side of black beans and bread that was as authentic and as tasty as I have ever had in a restaurant. The absolute best part if the whole experience was the friendly staff and extremely fast service! That is lacking next door !! I just found my new favorite spot! They also carry a large selection of sweet breads and desserts that I cannot wait to try!
