Kohala’s Guest House

This attractive guest house is set back off the highway so even with the windows open, is relatively quiet. Beautiful large tree out from covered with orchids, several of the rooms are in the main house… ours was in a detached cottage with a shared bath. Simple older plantation style, clean, comfortable bed, oscillating fan (no air conditioning), small tv., sink in the room.
The owner was unsure of our reservation when we arrived but greeted us nicely, if somewhat frantically and a bit jittery. Price was good for the accommodation in expensive Hawaii and area has several interesting historical sights, vistas and heiaus nearby. Hawi and Kapaau are wonderful laid back little authentic Hawaiian towns that time seems to have forgotten. I’d stay there again if I ever need a place to stay in the area.
