Desserts by Rita

We first had a cake from here at the wedding of Ryan and Jen about ten years ago. We continue to stop when traveling to our Nation’s Capital for a cake or just a slice. Yummy. Definitely one of the best cakes ever, if not the best! Today we tried the orange cake with butter cream frosting. Terrific!!!

The cake was gorgeous, and absolutely delicious! My whole family agreed it was the best tasting birthday cake we’d ever had. My daughter chose yellow cake with buttercream icing, but there are many flavors and combinations to chose from. This is my go to bakery for any special occasion.

Mixed review but the cheese cake is absolutely 5 stars or more. First, it was $ 23 for a small cheese cake, about 8 slices. The cake was one of the very best I have ever tasted. I bought this for a birthday and the choice of toppings is limited to two. Neither of which I wanted, still $ 23 though.
There is no handcapped ramp and a patron could not get in while I visited. I ended up paying for his snacks because I felt sorry for him.
I forgot to pick up my special order. They communicated well and notified me, even waited after hours.
So on the bad side, limited choices and out of code building. On the good side, great product and service. In total I would recommend this establishment. Even at the higher prices, because I would rather part with money and be satisfied then have money and be wanting.

Ordered a sheet cake for a special event — we were very pleased with decoration and the cake was rich and moist.

My father-​in-​law brought a devil’s food cake with buttercream frosting out to us in Western Maryland for my wife’s birthday. Fortunately, he brought a small cake and took some home or I’d still be eating off it like a rabid animal. This is the best cake I’ve ever had and henceforth will compare all other cakes before me to Rita’s.

I loved working with Cindy at the Desserts by Rita location in Havre de Grace for my September 2013 wedding at the Vandiver Inn (this review is inexcusably late!) From the get-​go my experience was wonderful. The tasting was lots of fun and Cindy helped me work through my ideas to figure out what I wanted as far as design was concerned. I came into the process without having a good idea of what I wanted the cake to look like. While talking to Cindy at the tasting she noticed my ring, and complimented its unique 1920’s era design (lots of filigree.) She mentioned that she could design the cake to look like my ring and at that point I was sold. I sent her a picture of my ring and she was able to take the design and execute it perfectly onto the cake (oh how I wish I could upload a picture!) The cake was gorgeous and perfect for the theme and venue. Not only that, but it was absolutely delicious. My husband and I saved the top to eat on our one-​year anniversary and it’s really all I’ve been thinking about for the past year! Thank you, Cindy and the Desserts by Rita team for all of your hard work and a beautiful and memorable wedding cake.
