MVFCU is a local Credit Union with branches located conveniently throughout the Merrimack Valley. We have had accounts with them for 30 years now and we are very satisfied with their service and their offerings. We’ve had numerous loans (auto, mortgage and personal) through them, their rates are the lowest around and you can apply online, in person or over the phone and close very quickly. If you’re buying a car, you can easily do it in a day. I read some bad reviews here but I have to say I think those may be specific to the employee not the company. I also have had some experiences with a couple of «beauts» over the years, but they have not lasted. Eventually the Credit Union realizes they aren’t suited for their brand, and they are let go. By the way, Veterans get an extra half percent off loan rates and if you do auto pay you save another quarter percent! That’s what we do, so on top of there already low rates, you can deduct another .75% for being a veteran! GREAT DEAL!

I was recommended here for consolidating my student loans from a reputable financial adviser in the area. When I went in for my appointment, the woman was unsure of what she was doing and kept instructing em to fill in the info and we’d figure it out at the end. I was so uncomfortable that I said I would finish the application at home. In the meantime, I was researching other places to consolidate my loans. I received 3 phone calls, 1 mailing and 3 e-​mails per week from Merrimack Valley Credit Union instructing me to finish my application. What kind of service is this harassing potential clients? Finally, I answered my phone and respectfully asked the woman to please stop trying to reach me that I was no longer interested as I had found a better service and one that had much less invasive marketing techniques. The woman was incredibly rude and hung up on me.
For student loan consolidation, take your business elsewhere. Citizens Bank has a great program with friendly and helpful customer service.

Walked into the Methuen branch on a Saturday to open an account. The ease was great. They have all the features you need, online banking, free ATM, overdraft protection and… I’m so excited. a coin machine. Finally can get rid of the jars of pennies. Very happy with this bank.

I have been a member of this credit union for almost a decade. In the past 6 or so months I have seen this company deteriorating. There have been multiple times where my debit card has been frozen for reasons that had nothing to do with my account itself. I have gone to stores and was embarassed when my card was declined and yet I had plenty of funds for the purchase. It took over a week on two occasions to figure out what was wrong with my account. They try to be helpful by freezing the account if there is suspicious acitivty yet don’t contact me to let me know that happened. Then I am unable to use my card and have no idea why! In addition, the employees seem disgruntled and rude and not very willing to help. I threatened to leave (I already created a new checking account) and they said ok, no problem! If this is how a business treats their customers I want nothing to do with them.

I’ve banked here for years. I have a primary checking account elsewhere and use this account as a savings. OK I admit, I hide money from myself! Because of that, I chose not to have a checking account or an ATM card. The hours are convenient for me to drop in when I do need to withdraw money.
My mom has checking with them and an ATM card. There’s never a problem finding an ATM because they are on the SUM network and at least around here there are enough banks that use the SUm that it is never an issue.
If you do have checking with them you can get free checks. They offer online banking although I am an old fashioned girl and don’t use it. They give you interest (measly as it is) on your accounts. The minimums account balances are under $ 25. They offer Visa credit cards if you choose to do all your banking with one place. They also offer safe deposit boxes at reasonable rates.
I did end up refinancing my mortgage through them after my previous mortgage was sold multiple times. They handle the mortgages they hold themselves, which is a plus. What drove me batty was calling to discuss my mortgage and ending up talking to either someone in Indiana or even worse in the Philippines. Now I can talk to someone who is local. I also had an auto loan with them years ago and I got a great rate.
