Gem Gem Gem! I found it! This place is not only cute but it’s damn good food too. It’s worth the 20 minute drive from Shreveport for all you LA film folks working in the area. They cater too. Amber Jolie, the owner of this lunch spot, comes from a long line of great cooks in her family. She opened this little place when she returned home from her big city escapades and realized that Shreveport desperately needed a good lunch spot that served quality food with great service. Each day Amber runs specials like gumbo, red beans, or chicken and dumplings but she has a consistent menu of sandwiches you can choose from too. Me personally, I go in there and just ask… «What am I having today?» and I let her choose for me. Her custom cakes and desserts are to die for. She made a banana fosters cheesecake for me that was so good I’m trying to convince her to ship one to me. The restaurant has limited indoor seating. But the there’s a patio deck with tables and chairs which is great if you want to bring a group. She also sells produce that«ain’t got none of that shit sprayed on it,» AKA organic. It’s all from local farmers so you feel good about picking up a bag of blueberries and a giant watermelon when you drop in for lunch. Afterall, you’re supporting local business and farmers. Be sure to have her home-brewed mint sweet tea. It’s not overly sweet and it’s incredibly refreshing in the dead of summer. The cuban sandwich is screamin’ too. I’m not a fan of Shreveport, but this would be the one reason I’d find my way back to city.
