Clean restaurant, Extensive menu. Nice area for sitting at the sushi bar. Ordered several items frome sushi menu. Not a lot of attention to presentation on the plate. The slices were overly huge, more than a mouthful. The salmon was not«fresh» …slightly slick and very bland. All of the items either prepared with Wasabi either in them or on a board where the condiment had been. A load of cream cheese mixed with over cooked chewy steak in the steak roll.

Awesome sushi, my favorite sushi place in Hattiesburg! Baked salmon roll is the best!!! The salad and soup are good which I always get, but the baked salmon is a must! Crunchy, dynamite, shrimp tempura are also some of my favs! Not the fanciest place but it’s clean, the staff is nice and the prices are cheap and the food is spectacular, my kinda spot. I think I’ve been eating here for about 15 years since my college days.

Great affordable bento box lunch specials. Good sushi a la carte. Service can be slow especially at lunch time. I go when I am not in a rush and can just wait to enjoy my meal.

Best sushi on this earth, and I’ve eaten sushi everywhere including Tokyo! Always fresh and made to order! Sushi pieces are bigger than most restaurants. Sushi chef aims to please and will adjust your order to your preferences. For all of you Cajuns out there, try the«Cathy Cajun» roll!!! Perfect blend of seasoned crawfish, avocado and crunchy tempura!!! I’ve been eating here since Sakura first opened and I have never been disappointed! It’s my FAVORITE hands down!!!

Awful! The sushi looked like no sushi I have ever had before. We had a lobster roll and crab roll. Both looked like the meat had been pureed with the cream cheese and then squirted in to the wrap and rolled up. You couldn’t even tell the 2 apart. We also got one of the large specialty rolls. We both tried a piece and left the other 8 pieces on the plate.(It also had the meat/cheese purée mixture.) It was equally awful. The waiter didn’t even take the last roll off our ticket. We paid 30 dollars for terrible food. We will never go back again. I would give negative stars if I could.

The worst sushi I have ever had in my life and it’s relatively expensive to boot. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

Not overly friendly menu, they don’t have fried rice just FYI and although clean, the entire restaurant smelled of mothballs from the moment you walk in. We honestly didn’t even eat and it may have been great but too many things didn’t work for us.

The food is subpar and is expensive. The waiter doesn’t really pay attention and forgets a lot of things. I will definitely not be coming back here. If you want to spend $ 18 for lunch and leave unsatisfied, head to Sakura!

This has always been my favorite place for sushi during college. I haven’t been in about 6 months, so I got lunch there today. I can tell the quality has gone down some, but it was still overall good. Dynamite Roll — This was ALWAYS the best, but today it was ok. Baked Salmon Roll — The flavor was good and the size was more than enough. Squid Salad — Very good!
Okay, it’s important that your expectations are realistic. You are eating Sushi in northern, MS for goodness sake, be grateful!!! All in all, this little hole-in-the-wall has a very cute atmosphere. The Hawaiian Roll is AMAZING! Not too fond of the crawfish w/asparagus. Just not that great. My «Caroline Roll»(spicy crab, add cream cheese of course) was delicious! We went on Easter Sunday so it was pretty dead. The previous review on the bento box deal is a good one. My husband got a bento box and it was a pretty good amount of food. All in all, it wasn’t bad at all. Our waitress was very sweet. All in all, fairly priced for the proportion of food you get.

I ordered sashimi with a salad. How can you f that up? The salad was basically a big bowl of dressing. Sashimi is supposed to be a finger food and bite sized. It’s hard to cut huge pieces of raw fish with chopsticks. The only compliment I have goes to the wait staff.

The place is a residential house converted into a Japanese restaurant. The pavement has a lot of potholes and cracks so be AWARE! As far as the food, they give HUGE rolls! Size does NOT equate to quality!!! We ordered 5 rolls and were full with one roll left… that never happened to us before. Their lobster roll had imitation crab meat masked with mayonnaise. Our roll pieces were so big that we couldn’t finish them in 1 bite. Their baked salmon roll had a slight fishy flavor to it that fresh then cooked salmon should NOT have. The service was good, but we will not be going back.

Had I rated Sakura a couple of years ago, I would have given them a 5 star rating. Other sushi bars in Hattiesburg often leaned towards a Chinese menu while Sakura boasted more traditional, healthier Japanese fare. Located in an old house across the highway from USM, there really isn’t anything I wouldn’t recommend off their menu. The bar isn’t too bad either. You can watch Japanese television while you sit at the sushi bar or alcohol bar. The other side of the restaurant has more traditional table seating. For students, I’d point out the affordable lunch bento boxes :)

Very friendly service and awesome food. I’ve traveled around a lot and this is the best sushi place by far. I have tried Sake café, Edo, Oishi, and Kobe and they did not live up to my expectations Also, the food is reasonably priced. The sushi chefs are very friendly and so is the wait staff. Very nice atmosphere. I would recommend to anyone who wants great sushi in Hattiesburg, MS.
