They’re cheap, perfect servings, have a cute atmosphere, and an efficient concept going. However, I wasn’t impressed with the pork chop(all they did was pour BBQ sauce on it) or the corn bread(tastes like it was from a box mix). I’d probably give them another shot though.

This place is what lunch is suppose to be. With out doubt a true gift to lunch dining in Hattiesburg. The menu changes daily and the offerings are as fresh as you can get. They also have an all veggies option. The owners are always present and attentive, and willing to answer any and all questions about menu items. Worth the drive to downtown.

This place has delicious homestyle southern cooking! I ate there on Friday with 4 friends and we enjoyed the fried catfish plates! I appreciate that they have so many sides to pick from. I opted for the lima beans and their broccoli salad. Both were great! The catfish was excellent and you get ample portions.(We all agreed a nap would have been nice.) Their rolls, cornbread and hush puppies are equally good, so it was hard to pick which one I wanted, but I opted for cornbread and it was yummy! They have great sweet tea, a table filled with condiments including tartar sauce for the catfish. The atmosphere was«country shabby chic» and very comfortable. I sort of felt like I was dining in someone’s grandma’s place! We plan to go back soon! All 5 of us enjoyed our meals and that is a great testament to the food!

Hands down, best homestyle southern lunch available in Hattiesburg. Always fresh, usually local, and always perfectly seasoned. Youre never eating canned vegetables or premade frozen nonsense at grateful soul, which is common with even the smallest if restaurants. Did I mention the owners are Hattiesburg locals and former caterers/chefs? Come downtown and share the love at Grateful Soul! My personal favorites are the fried chicken, fried livers, meatloaf and fried catfish. Oh and the braised cabbage is to die for!!! Its also priced fairly and always well portioned.

Loved this place! The food is delicious and affordable. I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat it all, but I ordered fried chicken, mac and cheese, greens, and tomato pie. Totally amazing. Ordered strawberry shortcake(I think) for dessert and it was pretty awesome too. We will definitely be back here.

Love the food! I’ve been twice. Once with co-workers and then with the hubby. It’s a very good helping of food. However, I could say it might need to be toned down a bit. Then again, I’m a light eater so for the hungry man the portions size is great. They offer a variety of what they call featured dishes which changes each day. It’s usually 3 to 4 to choose from. Along with this you have your choice if 1 to 3 sides and choice of bread. They also offer desserts which are a very nice size portion as well. They have a Facebook page that they update each day with their current menu and sides available. This makes planning what to eat prior to arrival a breeze. They do have limited seating but don’t let the long line to the register fool you. Right at noon the line begins to fill up but you don’t wait very long. Plus with the fast delivery of food to the table, you are able to enjoy your meal right away. So by the time you get to the register, place your order and pay, tables are already opening up. They seem to have this cycle of tables down pretty good. If you are limited on your lunch hour, I would suggest getting there about 12:30. I’ve noticed both times the line was long and tables filling up but by the time 12:30 — 12:45 arrived the line was down to 3 – 4 people and several tables open. No. People didn’t just leave. Everyone managed to order, pay, and eat before leaving. I’m definitely keeping this restaurant in my top 5 for places to eat downtown.

Went in today for the catfish plate lunch and really enjoyed it. The catfish is Mississippi farm raised, which is important to me – good to see a restaurant supporting local industry! Catfish was totally delicious and the sides were great too. The braised cabbage was some of the best I’ve ever had. really enjoyed my lunch and will definitely go again! I am happy to find another high quality local place to eat in town.

My family and I dropped by Gratefull Soul the other day to grab some lunch. It was packed! For the most part, we enjoyed the food: a fine example of down-home country cooking. My only complaint is that our meal was a bit pricey($ 10+ for an entrée with 1 – 2 sides) for the kind of food that you can find at any buffet in town. For lunchtime, country-cooking meals, a fairer price would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $ 7 and something. All together, the bill for lunch for my wife, child and me came out to total around $ 30! That’s a bit steep to say the least. Higher prices may make it difficult for most families to eat here regularly. Here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Lower the price slightly to around the $ 7 range for an entrée and two sides. Include drinks in the price(tea costs near nothing to make). or… 2. Vastly improve the quality of food and/or make it more exotic to justify the price.
