If it were not for the constant discordant noise, music from the kitchen, television, different music from the dining area… It would be a really good restaurant. As it is, the food is great but the noise while you try to eat will give you ulcers. Texas Chimichanga is delicious.(Spanish language Judge Judy type show with everyone shouting was unpleasant)

Absolutely wonderful! So overlooked in this town. Some of the best food I’ve had here.

Not a fan. I like authentic but this didnt do it for me. It’s in an old pizza Hut. More like a taqueria than a restaurant.

Good food and decent service. The chips and salsa tasted fresh. We tried a few dishes. The chili rejeno with chicken was my favorite. Would go there a second time.

This is the best Mexican food in Hattiesburg, hands down. I almost always order from their taco menu(you have to ask for it during lunch) and have had them all numerous times… except the tripe.(There’s always next time!) My favorites are the pastor, Asada and Carnitas… but aren’t those everyone’s favorites? I’ve ordered from their regular menu a couple of times and it’s fine. If you typically like Mexican food, you’ll find lots to like… their salsa is also pretty great & the chips are always hot.

Super-healthy Mexican if there is such a thing. The veggies were crisp and abundant — the meat was well-presented and cooked correctly. The tortillas were made in-house and had just the right texture. Service was a bit rude, and I am an easy person to wait upon and present as a good tipper. The bathroom was not pleasant. Still, I am game for a revisit. My food was yummy.

The food is pretty good. Most of the staff is really great. They have one waitress that is completely ticked that you dared eat there and she seems really upset when you want to order food. It’s very strange since what is expected of a waiter/waitress seems to disgust her. Not kidding… I asked for a refill and she cursed as she grabbed the cup to get the refill. I’d avoid this place if you can — there are some better options.

I was charged $ 9 for old, mushy rice that had very obviously been reheated in the microwave. The cheese was in chunks on top of it and wasn’t completely melted. The shrimp are much, much bigger at Del Sol, and the food tastes much better there, too. The sophipilla was good, at a good price, but everything else was disappointing, down to my waitress, who refilled my water once and then didn’t return for over half an hour. I finally walked up to the counter myself to order a sophipilla and pay(I hadn’t received my check yet). The chips were okay, but I’m glad that I didn’t order queso dip, because what came on my rice was disappointing. I won’t bother to buy another meal from here — only a sophipilla to go if I ever do return. I hoped that it this place would be good, since I work downtown and haven’t found a good Mexican restaurant this side of town since Mama Alma’s closed, but didn’t have any luck. I highly recommend Gratefull Soul for dining downtown. Don’t waste your money at Compadres. Go to Del Sol if you’re craving Mexican food, or beg Mama Alma to open another restaurant.

For the food, this place is top 5 in Hattiesburg. My wife and I go at least once a week. Anything from tacos to enchiladas are exceptional. Try the tacos al pastor or barbacoa. Try the chicken enchiladas. Try their steak fajitas. Ask for the spice red chili sauce(delicious but boy is it spicy). Chips are better than any place in Hattiesburg. This is a real family place, not going to find any margaritas here, but you will get some of the best mexican food in Mississippi that I have been able to find.

Good news: food is above average and better than many Mexican restaurants around these parts. Prices are very reasonable. Bad news: bathroom needs some work… dirty as hell. If you are in town, you should definitely check this place out. If they clean up the bathroom, I would give Compadres 4 stars.

Great traditional tacos, fajitas, carne asada, and salsa. Service can be very slow at times, but always friendly. I especially recommend the pork tacos and fish tacos.

Traveling through on a road trip, we thought we would give it a try. Pulled up to a full parking lot. Good sign. Walked past a mop sink on the outside of the restaurant that was filthy. Bad sign. Walked in the front door and we were overwhelmed by the smell of dirty bathrooms. Yikes. Turned right around and left.

In the birthplace of rock and roll, Mississippi that is, that gave us Elvis and still has at least to my knowledge a Piggly Wiggly’s resides a place that exists as an anomaly. I say this, ONE, since I am from San Antonio and there seems to be a Mexican restaurant as readily as there are eager mouths to eat at one. And TWO, in the heart of Dixieland there are not many restaurants to choose from of this style of cuisine. So when my friend told me about this place called Compadres, my curiosity piqued. It was once a Pizza Hut, to my understanding, somehow converted into an eatery and I don’t mind that at all. Heck, in San Antonio I’ve seen dilapidated Church’s Fried Chicken’s, insurance buildings no less turned into palaces for taco, burrito and fajita mass consumption. I’m sure it must represent some culture shock to the residents here but por favor(please), have patience. Inside there is nothing new or really anything extraordinary to fuss about. Nothing that I haven’t already seen that I can get back home. There is ample room for all. There is a little area where you can buy Pan De Dulce.(sweet~bread) Waitresses come to take your order, with big hoop earrings, a chola where I am from. She gave us menus and I surveyed it, looking for the obligatory dish for me, carne guisada. But there was none. And I realized that most of the plates were made con pollo.(with chicken) Well what is a Texas dude supposed to do? I decided to order Enchiladas Verdes.(skip the English translation) The food came out hot and quick, just the way I like it. I was ready to pick up my fork and dig in when I noticed that well, these aren’t like the enchiladas I get back in Texas. I was a bit perplexed. The tortilla wasn’t dipped in oil nor was there cheese oozing all over like a volcano. And I made the realization that there truly is no definitive Mexican Cuisine. It is more complex than chips and salsa more vast than the Border Sauce you get at Taco Bell. It certainly differs from region to region, city to city. Oh yeah back to the food, it was okay. But then. I noticed my friends, who are all from Mississippi, begin to smile with every bite. It made me think that food isn’t always about taste but how does it make us feel? We attach memories and good times to plates and share them with all our friends. Sometimes as cultures with different languages and history we use food to communicate to each other. So in a sense it is a good place to start. Seeing two college students watching Vicente Fernandez on an overhead TV while eating was not lost on me. To the residents in Hattiesburg I say go to this place. It’s a unique experience, certainly one I won’t soon forget. p. s. My friends who live here wrote a song called, «Compadres.» Mi encanto!(English translation, «it’s all good!)

I’m in love with this unassuming restaurant! The dishes I’ve had thus far have been so delicious and fresh, I melt into every bite. I think the very casual ambiance gives it charm — and frankly, a Friday night date here and speaking Spanlish, makes me happy and full! I usually get chicken tacos with fresh fresh corn tortillas, cilantro and onions, guacamole… plus a variety of other dishes to share. I’m partial to this food simply because it’s fresh, and healthy. I highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for authentic, smaller portion Mexican food. Great place for lunch too!

Mexican food similar to TexMex in Texas. Great service and the price is good. It is located in an old Pizza Hut across the street from music store on Hardy Street going downtown.
