I just received my delivery order, which came incredibly quickly. And WOW! This is as good as it gets. Tinga Nachos are crispy and delicious with fresh and hot ingredients. I’m a hardcore nacho fan, and these are hands down the best I’ve ever had. It looked so pretty I had to take a picture to snapchat it to my friends. The burritos are downright monsters! I wish they had places like this in Langhorne, unfortunately these guys are only close enough for me to order at work. I don’t really write Unilocal reviews, but I had to share how awesome El Rey de Oros is. This is my new favorite restaurant. Keep it up guys! I’ll be ordering again very soon.

I just moved back home from a largely Latino area outside of DC and I was missing my local neighborhood Salvadorian, Peruvian, Mexican food. The food here is spot on and delicious. A small hole in the wall, you may miss it– but you’d regret it!

Quality authentic mexican food. I have passed this place many times before. It was recommended by a friend so I went by for lunch. Fast, pleasant service and a great value.

Come for the pupusas, stay for the friendly staff. Great little gem in Hatboro. The Mexican food is better than average for the suburbs of Philadelphia, but the specialty is the Salvadorian pupusas. Awesome. If you get the combo plate with three pupusas, I hope that you have someone to share them with.

best authentic tacos around. my business friend of mines introduced me to this place when he stop by my restaurant for some sushi. I always wanted to try some authentic Mexican tacos but just couldn’t find any. got sick one time from some food truck in the streets. but this place is by far the best around. if I can fix one thing about this place is that the meat in the taco would be a little more moist but over all it’s great.

If you are looking for Taco Bell quality food, look elsewhere. If you are comparing this place to Taco Bell, you need to look at yourself and think — «I’m a fool». This place is top notch home cooked Mexican food. Straight out of grandma’s kitchen, literally because I was told it is all her recipes, keeping you coming back for more. We got the Papusas, chicken enchiladas, and chicken tostadas. I’ve gotta say that this place put some expensive NYC Mexican restaurants to shame. I’ll be back for more. Definitely.

I came here with my friend who is from Mexico. He was not impressed nor was I. I got 7 seas soup with crab legs with no claws, Sandy clams and 3 shrimp. For 10 bucks it would have been expensive but I payed $ 14 for it. I got some water and noticed a piece of corn in there. The waiter gave me some lame excuse about how they keep the corn next to the ice in the freezer. The only reason I gave two stars is because the chips were pretty awesome. Maybe the pupusas are good because they were hand made by a lady in the back. Everything else is cooked by another pinche.

This place was GOOD. The service was excellent– very friendly and attentive staff that made us feel very welcome. The tacos were good, the quality of meat was not exellent but that is almost expected for the little hole in the wall mexican joints. Both the red and green sauce were super good– definately added to the meal. Good priced food. I would re-visit if i was in the area, but wouldnt make a special trip for it.

Starter: The free nachos were more brown than golden which means they were probably cooked in old oil. The sauces were not very spicy. Main courses: Ordered the asada and carnitas taco. The asada was overly salty and the carnitas was dry. I also ordered the chicken tostado which was excellent. The shell was great and the fixins on top were fresh and tasty. Clincher: Not worth the 4.5 star status.

Thanks Unilocalers for the recommendations… we went today and we were not disappointed! If you are seeking pupusas, El Rey de Oros is the place. They were some of the best that I have tasted! We were warmly greeted when we entered and in speaking with the personable host and server, Fred, we learned that he is from So Cal. The food is reflective of authentic Mexican and Latin cuisine… tacos served in corn tortillas, fluffy Spanish rice, flavorful refried beans and zesty salsas(great salsa verde)! The pupusas are made to order(as they should be), have a great, balanced filling blend and corn meal tortilla was thin and crispy. I had two pupusas revueltas(beans, pork and cheese). Perfecto! Pupusas are traditionally served with curtido(cabbage slaw) and theirs is seasoned well and had crunch. Muy delicious! Bravo El Rey de Oros for bringing fresh, authentic Latin cuisine to the Philly burbs!

This place is amazing. They serve authentic Latin cuisine with an American flare, specializing in El Salvadorian and Mexican. Pupusas are so good!

We went to Ollie’s last night to find a replacement for our window AC unit, and decided to try El Rey de Oros for dinner. I am so glad we did! I was unfamiliar with Salvadorean food, but we really enjoyed a trio of Papusas, accompanied by a nice slaw, as an app. My main dish was Carne Asada Tostada, served with a Salvadorean style tortilla. It was not what I intended to order — I wanted the Carne Asada platter — but it was very good and I had no complaints. My husband had brought his own beer, but I like Horchata with Mexican food, so that is what I ordered. Next time I will try the Salvadorean version. My husband had Chile Rellenos, a dish he loves and almost always orders when it is available. He was very pleased with them. They were light, not heavily battered, and quite tasty. He said that he would definitely order them again, but wants to work his way through the rest of the menu first. Service was excellent, and our server(perhaps the owner as well?) Ren, could not have been more helpful. His personality and willingness to chat with us abut the food really contributed to a positive experience. The only negative was that the salsas and other items did not have the heat that we are used ton with some Mexican food. It is possible that they have have toned it down for non Hispanic patrons. I was OK with the reduced spiciness, but my husband would have liked something more robust. We will be going back, and I can see this becoming a regular stop. I do want to go for a late lunch ion Sunday. They serve Chilaqules, a typical Mexican dish that I crave, and, starting at 11:00, Pozole. This is not haute cuisine, but it certainly satisfied my craving for Mexican style food. Maybe n ext tme we will bring by daughter’s Mexican father-in-law!

Oh Unilocal, you’ve steered me awry this time. When I went to El Rey, Unilocal had given this place 4.5 stars. I was blown away by the stars, but not by the food. The food isn’t bad. The chips as a starter was actually really good. Tastes fresh, yet not oily at all. And when dipped into the green sauce on the table, it had the perfect amount of crunch and spice. The rest of the food was just average. The menu was all over the place — I was looking for a Tinga burrito — not offered. However, there’s Tinga fries! Wifey wanted a shrimp taco — not on the menu. But they did have shrimp fajitas! The waiter said the chef would be able to make it, but it’s weird that it’s not on the menu. So wife did the shrimp fajitas. The fajitas came out quick, but came out incorrect. Wife requested her entrée have the salad’s sour cream on the side. They brought it out with sour cream on top, and an additional side of sour cream. No big deal, but later I was charged for the additional side. And they took her plate back to just take off the pieces of lettuce with sour cream. And yes, I said plate. Aren’t fajitas usually served on skillets? Not here. Came out on a plate, already cooked. She noted her shrimp was grilled very well, but there wasn’t too many pieces of shrimp. Lots of onions though. My carnitas burrito came out ginormous, but it seemed short on carnitas too. And there’s no sour cream on the burrito — I used my paid-for sour cream for that. I only ate half as I was full from chips. No sauce on top of your burrito either as some other places do with mole, tomatillo, or verde. Not offered here. Service was really friendly, and the place isn’t too big(in a somewhat busy plaza), but I think the food leaves a lil more to be desired than I’d like. And the prices aren’t THAT great. Because of that, I probably wouldn’t try this place again. Too many places in the area that offer Mexican, so onto they next one!

Incredible food, fresh and very tasty. I’ve tried several items on the menu and everything has been superb! It is a family run restaurant, and the service is incredible, fast and efficient. They are more than willing to explain some of the dishes and the difference between Mexican and Salvadoran meals. They give homemade chips and two incredible sauces. My wife suggested the Orchatta, a sweet drink… Yum! There is a difference between the Mexican and Salvadoran, try both, but I prefer the Salvadoran. Looking forward to going back and trying two more Salvadoran dishes. This restaurant is a must if you’re in the area, it’s even a must if you’re not in the area!!!

We were in town for the please touch museum and stayed at a hotel near El Rey. The Unilocal reviews sent us here and well… lets just say we highly disagree about the quality of the food. This is more like a bad/mediocre home cook trying to do a restaurant. Based on other reviewers we tried the spinach and cheese pupusa and the beef burritos. And we also tried the chichuron. The pupusa is what it is, can’t really go wrong there. Melted cheese and pan fried, pretty good I suppose. But I haven’t had enough pupusas in my life to tell if it is truly good or bad. But it definitely goes down hill from there. The beef burrito, size is good. Flavor not so much. The beef hadn’t been sautéed or chargrilled. There was no color to it(see picture.) Doesn’t even taste marinated. Rice, unremarkable, refried beans, typical fare. Chichuron, it was all fat and only fat. I think it’s supposed to have a little bit of meat on it. We ordered to go and they didn’t put the sauce on the side so it was soggy fat. I wish they’d spoken up and either recommended that we didn’t order this dish to go, or packed it the right way. The sauces… can’t tell if the salsa is supposed to be salsa. Overall, felt like we wasted an opportunity to have better food in Philly.

Legit Pupusas! We have been searching for a good pupusa ever since we were introduced to them in Southern California. If you do not know, Pupusas are traditional El Salvadorian food — Corn masa stuffed with cheese or chicken, or beans and fried on a flattop. We read the reviews of El Rey on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Pupusas were very good, not too greasy and not too thick. Cannot beat $ 2.50 per pupusa The pickled slaw accompaniment was also delicious. They also have mexican food and we tried a huarache which was also very good. This is a very small storefront and is not much to look at, but with good food at very cheap prices, who cares. Will definitely go back.

My husband and I consider ourselves foodies. We prefer ethnic, spicy and authentic. I’ll eat anything, as long as it’s not too unhealthy, and as long as I can get it dairy/veggie/kosher. Tonight our search led us to El Rey de Oros in Hatboro. Its a cute little place, only slightly more upscale than a pizza place, but with authentic touches of Mexican and Salvadorian décor. The food was simple and delicious. I chose a whole fried tilapia, which had decorative cuts in it causing it to be crispy throughout despite not being breaded. My husband had the burrito with tasty beef. Each had a side of rice and beans. The food was very authentic. Best of all is the lovely family who owns this place. They are warm and welcoming and are willing to accommodate their food to your tastes. This is the kind of establishment I like to support, and I look forward to returning time and again.

Hatboro isn’t exactly a destination of culinary excellence, yet within these humble borders lies a few stunning gems. El Rey de Oros is one of these gems. It’s a quaint establishment and it is BYOB. My recommended order is the beef burrito. It’s solid, very large, and boasts a soft tortilla with a nice bite to it. The fajitas are very solid. The horchata here is worth mentioning. It isn’t overly sweet, which I appreciate a lot.

Once again, the Unilocal Nation comes through! Searching for a new breakfast spot were we, and El Rey repeatedly surfaced in our Unilocal results. The owner, who prepared our meal and personally served us, was an incredibly warm and engaging chap. He and his wife recently relocated from California to be near their daughter and son-in-law, and they brought with them a multitude of authentic Mexican and Salvadoran recipes. The coffee, served in a ginormous mug, was flavorful and steamy. Perfect on a cold wintry morn. Mr. M wordlessly inhaled(really) his cheese omelet. What distinguished my omelet from the norm was the abundance of beautifully caramelized vegetables, including onions and peppers, juxtaposed with barely wilted baby spinach. So flavorful was the filling that the omelet otherwise required little seasoning. The eggs were airy(without being too fluffy) with just a kiss of browning here and there. Meanwhile, the home fries were moist and flavorful. Importantly, the printed breakfast menu does not cover all of the restaurant’s offerings. The owner told us that Huevos Rancheros, for example, will be made upon request. This is also one of the few local restaurants that offers posole(including a menudo version). We look forward to many return visits!

Growing up in suburban Philadelphia, California burritos are a big deal. Specifically, the ability to get a toddler-sized, foil-wrapped hunk of deliciousness stuffed with french fries. Sometimes, I try explaining this to my wife, a Californian, and she just rolls her eyes. Similarly vexing, there’s a dearth of Salvadoran food in SEPA. El Rey de Oros offers both and reeled me in hook, line, and sinker. I devoured a trough of nachos and went face down in a vegetarian California burrito. Everything was great and here’s the tip of the day: the burrito was even better the next morning. Cold. Out of the fridge. Like a savage.
