In the past year so the hardware store has changed management. It’s better organized and more friendly. I’m a thumbs up.

Hastings Hardware is so convenient for me but every time I go there, I regret it. The staff are really rude and act like you must be some kind of moron to ask the question you are asking. I was looking for a wood sealant the last time I was there. I mentioned the name of the product. «I’ve never heard of it.» It’s made by X company«I’ve never heard of it». I looked it up on line, this is how it’s spelled. «I’ve never heard of it.» Maybe they had something similar that I could have bought? Later that day, I bought the(very common) item he’d never heard of at Home Depot. It’s like going to the DMV. Same kind of attitude.

Completely agree with the previous reviewer. I’ve never before posted a review online, but i“m compelled to do so after many years of suffering their condescending and care-less attitude. I only use this store when in an absolute bind, when any neighboring store doesn’t have what I need. Every single occasion I have dealt with them has been utterly unpleasant. I just called to ask if they had a certain adhesive-backed sanding disc and his response was incomplete after I asked nicely several times for clarification. These guys have never appeared to care to assist in even the smallest way. This is true whether in person or by phone. My husband asked directions on how to hang a heavy and awkward piece on the wall, and the guy shook his head as if he couldn’t believe he had to explain this. Are you a professional, or not? Just explain it! If I’m a lawyer and someone came to me asking for advice, would I cringe at his lack of knowledge on the law? Stay away. One mile away in either direction will bring you a much more efficient, friendly and cost effective alternative.

This small hardware and electrical store is no doubt a big plus to those of us who live near-by, but it’s the customer service here which has us increasingly considering avoiding it, even for simple things. The typical three-man staff generally hangs out at the counter and routinely grouse and bristle at requests for assistance, both on the phone and in the store. I suppose when the store has been around so long, and when you’re the only game in town, you can afford to be a little rude, but it’s become nearly unbearable for us. We have purchased from these guys on many occasions, but both dealing with them over the phone or even in person cam be a humbling, even humiliating experience. THIS is the attitude that destroyed the mom-and-pop style of business. Sure, we’ll pay twice as much for something simple when it’s convenient… sometimes. But combining grumpy and/or downright rude service with a smaller selection and higher prices than the big chain hardware store down the street is a recipe for disaster. Then again, perhaps they just don’t care. Great selection of basic hardware and home improvement needs for a small store; but unappreciative store keepers. That’s something even a hammer or fresh coat of paint can’t fix.
