Great selection and pretty reasonably priced. I live in the area and this is the only liquor/wine shop in the village. That said, I think the customer service here tends to get a bit iffy at times due to the lack of competition. I dropped in last night for a bottle of wine and encountered a man who clearly wanted to go home. In his defense, it was close to 7pm so I am sure he was ready to go however the store was still open. I perused the store for about 10 solid minutes and not once did he offer to assist me with making a selection. I ended up joking with him that it was only the two of us left in the store so now he had to help me — for him to even look up from the iPad-like device he was playing with. He wasn’t very pleasant either. I’m a bit shocked that O’Leary’s has someone like this manning their counter, let alone working in the shop. The gents that I’ve encountered over the years have always been pleasant, helpful and all around good guys. My neighbors always try to sway me from O’Leary’s claiming their attitudes suck but I never found that to be true — until last night. It was late and I was in the mood for a nice glass of red but honestly think that I will pop in to Trader Joe’s Wine Shop across the street from my workplace or even Midway on Central before coming here in the evening again.

O’Leary’s is a top notch liquor store. They have all of your standard, popular selections plus a good wine collection. However, I give them 5 stars specifically for their collection of single malt scotches and personalized service. Brian, the store’s proprietor along with his brother, Craig, is very friendly and about as helpful as you can get. Brian’s passion for his store and especially scotches, shows every time you speak with him and ask his opinion on certain selections. Even if I do not go in to purchase a single-malt I always make sure to kibitz with him on his latest selections and notes. It’s always a fun and educational experience speaking with him on scotches(as I am sure it would be for wine and any other liquor!) and if he is not familiar with a particular brand, he is quick to do some research for you online to get you information. Now that is what I call top service! His gallery of scotches are incredible and a must-see for any scotch connoisseur — especially if you are a fan of Islays(Peat Monster, Laphroaig, Bowmore). Again, he has all your standard selections(Macallan, Glenlivet, etc.) but he has a great number of specialty scotches, either rare/uncommon selections from the major names or selections from microbreweries across Scotland — Glendronach, Cragganmore, Old Pulteney). There’s always something new and interesting he brings into his store so you’re always looking forward to your next visit! My latest adventure is the Cragganmore 12; and I have my eye on some of the Obans Brian has in his collection as well. What’s also very cool and unique is that Brian has organized his shelf of scotches according to the taste spectrum, with the fruitier, more floral scotches to the left such as Glenlivets, the more neutral single malts in the middle, such as Macallan, and the peaty and smoky ones to the right such as Peat Monster and Laphroaig. He is also planning on DOUBLING his scotch selection which is extremely exciting!!! Brian frequently has wine tastings at his shop and is also planning on conducting some scotch tastings so definitely stay tuned! O’Leary’s is conveniently located directly across the street from the Hartsdale train station, making it an easy go-to even from the city. Parking is also readily available on the street or in the back. There is a big, famous store over in Scarsdale but I will always choose O’Leary’s for its top single malt selections, great prices, and impeccable, friendly service! Brian and Craig — you guys have a fantastic store. Can’t wait to go back!
