We were headed to the concert at Elizabeth Park and stop to pick up dinner. The place is open and visually appealing. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. We bought hummus, chickpea salad, a spinach and feta pocket and Curry chicken salad. The food was delicious. We will be back!

Great food, reasonably priced, and very friendly and professional service. I got there early and enjoyed checking out the grocery area with some unique items. We ordered once my friend arrived — I got the falafel wrap and she got the vegetarian stuffed eggplant. Both of us got fruit flavored seltzers. Food was delicious! My meal came to $ 10 and hers was $ 13 total. Definitely worth the visit!

This is such a great spot. Amazing falafel and baklava. I love that it has a market too with specialty items and fresh fruit. The people that work there are always so friendly too!

Stopped in for a lamb gyro between NYC and Maine. Didn’t expect much but got an array of exotic middle eastern foods to go, and great lamb and chicken gyros to eat in. Handsome lads behind the counter who were also extremely friendly and welcoming. Great surprise and great food.

Tucked inside a marvelous middle eastern market is this gem of a counter service(and tables) restaurant. The falafel sandwiches are out of this world. The spinach and feta pie was equally amazing. This restaurant/market is run by brothers who are lovely and kind as well. And the baklava…

I will never NOT come here for a spicy falafel wrap when I’m in the area. Try it! Everyone who works at this establishment is warm and welcoming.

My search for an authentic Greek gyro took me to Tangiers International to see how they measure up. I grew up in an area overflowing with Greek restaurateurs and some authentic Greek food so I have had the opportunity to try the real thing. While Tangiers is good, I like that they grill the meat up fresh on the flat grill and the pita bread is excellent. I tried a beef as well as a lamb Gyro and they were good but not what I was looking for. The use of grilled onions instead of raw didn’t work for me and I found both sandwiches to be a little light on the meat filling than what I’m used to. The tzatziki was okay but not great. Service was friendly and accommodating and I wish I could give them 3.5 stars instead of 3 but the next time I’m looking to take care of my Gyro fix I’ll be heading to me favorite Greek spot in Newington.

Tangiers is an interesting place. At first glance, it’s just another specialty grocery store. It sells overpriced basic items and some exotic international foods. However, in the back, there’s the«restaurant» that sells gyros, falafels, and different small plates. I’ve only ever tried two things at Tangiers: the falafel and the chicken gyro. Now, I’m a person that usually likes to try new things off the menu, but the falafel here is just that good! I keep coming back for it. It’s fried to order, so it’s crispy when you bite into it. They wrap the falafel in a crêpe-like bread, not pita bread like I’m used to from NYC. From what I know, the store is owned by brothers. I think they’re the guys running the cash register and the kitchen. They’re always so nice that it makes me happy to come back. I was in a hurry once, and didn’t know they had a really long wait, but he rushed my order so I would be back to work on time. He also gave me a number to call to order ahead. I’m pretty glad Tangiers is in this neighborhood.

I was traveling with a couple that was visiting from Texas and our plan was to stop at the Mark Twain House and Museum. In the process we decided to stop somewhere prior and have lunch. My girlfriend recommended this place based on Unilocal Reviews. So. Here we go. As soon as you walk into the Market you can tell this place is extremely clean and well organized. You notice the mini bar and kitchen in the back right. We made our way over to the gentlemen that was working and asked for a minute to review the menu. Seeing as that none of us were very«Educated» on Middle Eastern food this took a little while. The gentlemen was extremely polite and finally took our orders once we figured it out. We tried about 6 different items on the menu from Kebab’s, Hummus, Chick pea, and Falafel’s. My experience with Middle Eastern food was while I was deployed overseas numerous times. So I like to think my experience was something traditional. BOYWAS I WRONG!!! This food was amazing. It was my new standard for Middle Eastern food. You cannot go wrong with anything you order on this menu. Try the spicy Felafel because I didn’t get to!!! Thank you gentlemen if you read this for an amazing experience!

Go inside and go back right of the store. Sit at the counter, or order and grab a table. You can pick out what drink you want in the specialty grocery store before or after you order(from the dressy cooks in button up And slacks. Must be tough, I wouldn’t want to wk in a dress.) Order the Lamb gyro And falafel. Both were delish! Looked small but after lunch, I feel super full… too full in fact. After you are done, you go back to the front of the store for the register and tell him what u ate and had to drink or want to buy. I’m a sucker for sweets so I ordered the birds nest and some chocolates eggs… still full tummy so have not had a chance to eat it, but how can prepackaged chocolate be, right?

This is the next big thing. I shed a tear knowing that I do not always have to go to Atlantic City Boardwalk to get my favorite gyros because now I can go to Tangier’s! I heard good reviews about their baked goods, gyros freshly cooked on the grill and other excellent dishes using lentils, eggplant, curry!(curry gets me feeling all tingly inside hehe), hummus, kebabs, and chickpeas. You name it. Thanks to Wendy N. for informing me the duo(and rest of their family) running Tangier’s are Lebanese. These two guys were reminiscent of… if you are familiar with HGTV show Property Brothers(look them up!). These guys are like the Lebanese version of them –kind, welcoming, very nice, helpful, and clearly proud of their business. One of them stayed in the back to cook up food for the customers. I ordered a gyro and as he prepared it, I figured since Tangier’s was part Greek, I’d ask him how to properly pronounce gyro. It’s been a debate between«jai-row» and«yeer-row.» It was a fun conversation, he told me he was not too sure himself but he pronounces interchangeably. So I thought that was pretty cool. I took my gyro to-go but I should have just eaten it there because something like that should not be waited on. Gyro was SOLID A+. I loved it, cooked to perfection and had grilled onions. I prefer grilled over raw. Price was attractive at $ 6.75 and will definitely bring me back again. Brother at the front noticed I just had a gyro and refused to let me leave without bringing home some baked goods! I took home baklava and a bird’s nest(pastry similar to filo filled with assorted nuts like pistachios, cashews, almonds and mixed with a sugar syrup). Awesome stuff and total came to about $ 11. I was short on cash by around .75 but the man was very generous and told me I was all set. I would like to come back to try their other fresh goods like baba ghanoush or stuffed grape leaves then try to replicate it at home. I love to cook at home but never made an Middle Eastern/Halal/Jewish/Greek dishes. Well that is about to change because I know I will be coming to Tangier’s for my ingredients… but then grabbing a gyro or two on the way out!

I haven’t ever tried the falafel that so many other Unilocalers rave about. I come in for the baklava. If I’m ever working in the area I stop in to buy some. It’s the only baklava that is as good as my great aunt’s made it, and trust me, I’ve tried to find a match for years! Brings me right back to my childhood. As I’m writing this, I am fantasizing about my next visit to Tangier’s. The owners are so polite and friendly. They’re always smiling. They ask about your family and remember details you’ve mentioned in the past. Where can you find that type of sincerity these days? That alone is enough reason to visit and make friends here. It pains me to say this, but the dolmades are a miss for me. Too much oil and vinegar. They’re soggy and sour. It’s one of my favorite foods. Also, the diner portion of the shop is small. I’ve wanted to sit down to eat here, but I’ve never been when there is a seat open. They have so much fresh food to go or groceries to take home for your next culinary creation. Visit the bistro or the market. You will be pleased with both!

By far the best falafel I’ve ever consumed. and I am always on the search for fried chickpea nirvana. Better then the carts in NYC, and those are supposedly the ‘best’. The rather unassuming store front leads you into a clean, bright, and spacious market. These guys are running a fantastic business here. I was immediately welcomed, not awkwardly like in some cases, just a friendly greeting, like I was a regular customer. Order yourself up a falafel wrap, that’s all you need. It’s perfection, trust me. On your wait out, grab a birds nest pastry. absolute perfect cap for a great lunch.

Yum!!! So good. I have no idea why I waited two years to try Tangiers but now that I have had it, I have a feeling it will slowly become an addiction! I tried the chicken gyro and oh my goodness… It was beyond delicious. I loved every bite of it and I loved the spicy flavor it had. The sauce is delicious, it was fresh and just the perfect lunch. I can’t wait to go back and try some more!

The best Middle Eastern food of it’s type from here to New York City. I love the combination of restaurant/grocery. It is a nice addition to the West End of Hartford. Their falafel is fresh and out of this world GOOD. My office is located about 5 blocks or so away and I love going there for lunch. The falafel sandwich is fresh and delicious. The pita is warm and soft, once you bite into it you experience an explosion of fresh flavors. It is one of my favorite things to eat on the menu for lunch. You can taste the love and time that the family who owns and operates puts into their food. The market is also great, offering a variety of packaged and fresh ingredients. It is so clean and organized, I love it!

Love this place. The new location is much more spacious and very well organized. As you can gather from all of the reviews, the falafel here is amazing. They make it fresh for each order. It’s also vegan, in case that’s a concern for you. The hummus here is also great. If you eat there, they’ll drizzle some olive oil over it. I now do the same thing at home. I can’t leave this place without getting a couple pieces of baklava too. Flaky, honey goodness. The people who work here are always pleasant. All in all, a great place to go.

My prior experiences with falafel in Connecticut were a superb one at Mamoun’s in New Haven, and an underwhelming one at the now-closed Aladdin Halal off the Berlin Turnpike. I hadn’t scratched this particular itch in some time, so I decided it was time for a visit to Tangiers, just a few minutes away from me. Their move down Farmington Ave closer to Hartford was a good one, I think — the new building is quite spacious, with plenty of parking, and it’s nice to see Hartford getting more eats to its name. I got a falafel sandwich, pita, and hummus. There are tables and bar seating at the back, and tables outside by the entrance as well, but I took it to go. The falafel was fresh and crisp, and the flavors of its seasonings, which can be easy to lose among everything else in such a sandwich, came through nicely. It helped that the tahini wasn’t overused.(Tahini is to falafel as sour cream is to Mexican: use it sparingly, lest you neutralize the spices and flavors of the whole dish!) The pita was among the best I’ve had, perfectly light and chewy. The hummus was on the creamier side, closer to Sabra than to Tribe, and tasty enough but not terribly distinctive. As mentioned in numerous other reviews, the staff are exceptionally friendly. They helped make my first visit a very pleasant experience. One criticism that might be a little odd: the market area was so roomy as to seem a tad barren. They could have fit in several more shelves of products without making things cramped, but perhaps the kinds of items they stock simply plateaued. The selection was still good, though, and included some kind of very attractive-looking braided cheese that I’d never seen before. I paid $ 12 for the falafel, pita, and hummus. A higher price was to be expected, since this type of cuisine isn’t hugely common around here. For a quick option that doesn’t involve me driving an hour south, Tangiers is excellent.

My best friend brought me to Tangiers because I love falafel. Tangiers did not disappoint! The falafel sandwich was amazing, with perfect little falafels stuffed throughout. The rest of the food looked amazing as well, and the prices were super reasonable. The set-up is a bit confusing, as you walk to the back to order and then the front to pay. You sit down, and they bring your food to you. There was a slight shortage of tables at lunch time, and some nasty old man literally sat down at our table and asked us to move when his friends came. That was weird, but the food is good so ignore the weirdos that come here all of the time and think they own the place. The owners were great, and they accept cash or credit.

Love this place! It is a small family owned market with a counter service restaurant. You can eat in or get it to go. Everything I have gotten here has been great! Whether it is the hummus, gyro, falafels or baklava. Plus great market to pick up spices, pita and whatnot.

Oh Tangiers I love you so! Tasty Falafel and delicious foods to go. Great selection of groceries from far off middle eastern places. Makes me dream of visiting Turkey again. But, coming for a visit to Tangiers is far more closer and offers many of the tasty delights I miss. So, if your craving a gryo or falafel or two… come on down to Tangiers and pick up a few. Do a little shopping for tasty treats for home… talk to Winston as he prepares your food. This is a place not to be missed if your craving those middle eastern delicacies from far off places and so much cheaper than a plane ticket.
