This guy is a clown. His inventory is old and while I was there he spent most of his time on the phone with bill collectors. His attention detail and customer is some of the lowest I have ever seen. Much better options in the area.

This review is for the Solinsky EyeCare and Opticians Unlimited at 42 Pratt St. Downtown Hartford. I have Eye Care insurance and have never been charged for a contact fitting with my insurance. I had them check twice to ensure that I should be charged the $ 60 fee and Opticians Unlimited confirmed that yes I must pay this fee my insurance doesn’t cover fittings. After my appointment I called My Insurance Company and they confirmed that there indeed isn’t a charge and fittings are covered. I called Opticians Unlimited to inquire about a refund, Alice in billing was very nice, but said «it’s not really fair for the Dr. not to get paid for a fitting so we bill for a premium fitting» I said, «well it’s not really fair to bill for a premium filling when I didn’t get one» Alice then said she will have to call me back in the next couple of days when she contacts her manager.
Safe to say I’m disputing the charge and never returning. There are many other local business that deserve my business.

The people here are great. I got an eye exam on my lunch break. Stew knows his glasses. Every pair he picked out for me I want. They’re cheaper than my old eye glass place.

I wanted cool glasses that fit my personality. I’d already been to Central Optica at least four times and also Target a few more. (Talk about a wide continuum.) Had also tried Internet companies like Warby Parker as well as a sophisticated optical store in Union Station, in D.C. Had tried on at least 50 pairs of glasses. But none seemed right until I happened down Pratt Street in Hartford one night. I peered into the window of Opticians Unlimited and was intrigued. I decided to return during the day, when the store was open. That’s when I hit pay dirt: I found black matte frames, which have a sleek yellow outline. The outline is almost imperceptible. Just enough to catch someone’s eye. The price of the glasses fit my budget, too. I’d DEFINITELY go back. And suggest you go there, too.

Stew is the man when it comes to eye wear. Very knowledgeable about his products and what you don’t see in the shop, he can order from a catalog.

This place has an amazing selection of frames — from popular ones to handcrafted unique ones made in Europe and elsewhere! The owner is really helpful and took a lot of time with me (actually over an hour). He’s was very concerned about my satisfaction and wanted me to be happy with my purchase. I highly recommend this optician for selection and great service! I will definitely go back!
