Hartford Riverfront Food Truck Festival

Good job Hartford! Nice spread, nice selection, good layout, a bit of everything, a bounce house for the kiddies. Jay R Thai truck was bad… I would write a separate review if I could find any info on it. My friends got loaded tater tots from Request a Chef and literally were cursing because they liked them so much.
I’ll def go back next year, probably more than once!
And go before noon… you can’t even walk through at that point

Cuz these are food trucks we’re talking about… I would say we should start with the food. The food was an overall great experience… once it was actually in your hands. So my friend was disappointed in an Italian sandwich and a new haven slice of pizza he got. He realized when he purchased the sandwich that it would have been better if it wasn’t all bread. The meat and cheese was quality, but you could barely taste the prosciutto. He told me the pizza food truck was just average pizza and nothing to write home about.
I went with the taste of Mardi Gras truck first. I got a brisket sandwich. The barbecue sauce was really good. The brisket was decent, but I have had much higher quality brisket, and the southern style slaw covering he sandwich was pretty decent. However the wait was about 35 minutes, and they couldn’t keep the tickets in order to make it a FIFO method. I was patient and not perturbed… so overall, not a terrible experience. Then u got a grilled cheese with bacon from the cheese truck. It was one of the best grilled cheeses ever… but again a long wait for a grilled cheese. Then we went to Dees food truck where the fried food was really good, but they forgot our order and skipped us… then they gave me regular apple fritters instead of caramel apple fritters. The apple fritters were still delicious though.
Overall taste of the food was an excellent experience though. Gotta go and try out the flavor. But there were no bathrooms in sight, there were plenty of tended trash receptacles on premises (which was nice, the park stayed clean), the band had a lot of technical difficulties and the layout was a little confusing. I would say the set up was average and they have a few kinks to work out to have it be a successful event year in and year out, but I will be an attendee if and when it comes around again next year. Go get some good eats people!
