I don’t know much about Portuguese bread but my, I love their bread! I have been going to this bakery since I was little and the quality never changes. The owners are awesome and people who work their friendly and honest(they won’t sell something to you if they don’t think its well, «good»). I always great the rolls of bread, they make it fresh daily and beware, this bread is so popular you have to sometimes call in advance. Especially during the weekend, their bread often gets sold out before 10am. This is a true bakery hidden away on Park Street. Has parking in the front and isn’t too bad, although sometimes it gets a little crowded. Love this place and even after moving into Boston, I still go home and stock up on this bread! Oh, also for a dozen(which comes in their own plastic bag) it costs about $ 5(or so, not too sure) which is a bargin if you ask me!

Ahh, a traditional Portuguese bakery, right here in Hartford! I love Portuguese bakeries, where i grew up in So east Ma as a youngster, we were surrounded with them, and i have long sought out a true Portuguese Bakery since i was 12 and we moved away. Til now, the only one i have found(and yes, used to drive a long way out of my way to go to one in Ludlow, MA.) This one is not as perfectly authentic as that one in Ludlow(and i will still make the hour+ plus trip up there one of these days to load up!)…But this is a very close and quite authentic one to tide me over… The Portuguese White Bread, which is my FAVORITE, is usually crusty on the outside, and just so soft and tender on the inside it practically melts in your mouth. This is close, but to be honest, it is kind of «Italian’ in it taste and texture. Don’t get me wrong, i love Italian bread also… its just not the TRUE bread I was seeking. They also do not make all of the traditional Portuguese items like Malasadas, etc… But the couple of pastries we got to try were very yummy, as was the bread. Will definitely go back, but will also make a pilgrimage up to Ludlow to fill up the freezer one of these days!
