Found on Unilocal looking for a quick bite to eat before a concert at the XL. The description made it sound like they served food sooo… Walked over, walked in, no tables to sit at. we were a little unsure at first since we’d never been there… No one said a Damn word to us while we stood there wondering if they did have tables. Once we figured out no tables, we sat at the bar, which we had no problem with, as long as we could eat… along with maybe four other people. Waited five minutes or so. No server, no bartender, no nothing. So we walked out. Just a run of the mill dive bar.

$ 5 cover and 25cent drafts are a scam. Terrible service ensures you won’t get your draft and hope you resort to a domestic can.

It’s basically a club with no identity other then it could be a strip bar. Once I heard the owner owned gold club it made sense. Horrible bartenders, food that is basically frozen and fried and a home to underage drinking. If you are over 21 you are an odd ball. I went on a Thursday, the DJ was brutal. Couldn’t tell if he was playing music or cutting a promo for himself. Just a lousy bar in Hartford. Don’t waste your time. How this place hasn’t been raided and closed down by Hartford PD… is amazing.

Let’s start off by saying I’m probably biased. I LOVECOUNTRYBARS. For a country bar, this is pretty solid. Though they do not solely play country music, they still have the country vibe. I’ll take it. It gets a little sloppy on the weekends, but all in good fun. I recently went here in the daylight for a happy hour and it was actually a very good experience. They have a pretty solid happy hour menu in terms of food. Their drink specials are just so-so. They do have $ 5 Moscow mules, however. Solid place. Comes recommended from a country bar aficionado.

Great staff and food. Good atmosphere and much improved from the Pourhouse days! Perfect spot for a pre-game meal and drink!

I ordered a vodka and coke, next thing I know the bouncer is in my face telling me to leave for asking the bartender for cocaine. Don’t know how they could have misunderstood that. Since most of the people in the bar are usually teenagers I wouldn’t think they’d have a drug problem anyway. Place is packed on Thursdays when they have warm 25 cent beers, dead a lot of weekend nights.

Decent service for a downtown Hartford bar. Except for Thursdays which is an absolute shit show. Don’t even attempt the place during the day either because it smells like a bathroom. Their preferred method of removing rowdy customers is by putting them in a headlock and dragging them out… A lawsuit waiting to happen.

Underaged kids galore! If you want to feel like you may get arrested for partying with minors, this is definitely the place to go. I went on a snowy Thursday evening where they hold«college nights». Being a recent college graduate, I thought this would be a great idea. Mind you, it’s December in Connecticut so wearing anything less than 4 layers of clothing is fairly unacceptable unless you are a masochist. Waiting outside in line was a sight in itself. The number of poor college girls wearing nothing but tube tops and miniskirts really made me want to start a charity to gather coats on their behalf. The bouncers kept us waiting outside even though there clearly was plenty of room inside. I guess they started to take pity on the girls developing hypothermia, so we finally made it to the front. Now, none of us in line looked like we passed puberty, but the the man at the door took one apathetic glance at all of our IDs and we were in. Sweet. Walking into the bar made me realize that Angry Bull must provide daycare services with all of the children running around. No one buying drinks looked or acted anywhere close to 21, but like hell did that stop the bartenders from serving up 25 cent beers! I still stayed because there was no way I wasn’t going to make the best out of that $ 5 cover. And good thing I didn’t leave because the night only got better. And by better I mean worse. As the night progressed, more and more baby faced high schoolers packed the already tight space, forcing my group to retreat to the club upstairs. I’ll admit that this area was pretty nice and New York-esque with a bumping sound system. There was a VIP area where the 40 – 50 year old crowd could sit and gawk at the skimpy babies twerking. But as the bouncers kept shoving in more and more preteens, the place became a tight cesspool of Axe body spray and sweaty midsections. Then you have the one genius who thinks he can make enough room to break dance. My night ended after a fight broke out over what I’m assuming was a Yugioh card dispute or whatever kids get mad over these days. Overall, pretty good spot if you have a fake ID.

I have gone to this place twice… sat at the bar… and had great service. Granted it was during their off tomes so it was quite empty. The food did not disappoint. The food is above average bar food and reasonably priced. The drinks are decent as well.

Great place! Music is great. Great environment. My boyfriend and I had dinner here last night. The service was great. The chef made us fresh guacamole and came to make sure our food was good. He also gave us his card with a free appetizer voucher for our next visit! The manager also made sure our time there was great also and helped us with our gift card! We really enjoyed our visit to Angry Bull Saloon and will most likely return.

Not too shabby, Allyn Street. For whatever reason, I’ve just been away from downtown. Not sure if it’s the people, the pathetic selection of places to walk to and check out, or just a lack of motivation; I just have not had the slightest inclination to «hang out» in this part of Hartford. When a friend prompted me to check this place while we were on happy hour, I caved and said«hell, why not». Long gone are the days frat-like pourhouse: the stench, the grime, the debauchery. Angry Bull brings what Allyn Street has been slacking on — clean, well-maintained dives. A decent draught and bottled beer list, it was nice to see some local breweries on tap. I couldn’t resist from starting off with my regular guinness, but finished off with an allagash white and dogfish head 90 minute. Food menu is your typical fan fare. After bar-hopping, we got back and grabbed their burger and wings. And surprisingly, both were really well made. Now, this may well be me in a drunken stupor — but MAN, that burger really went down. If you’re hungry, and haven’t eaten, I’d say go for the burger, you won’t be disappointed. Outside of happy hour and on busier nights, the upstairs opens and is now known as «Club Downtown». Open space, pool table downstairs, CLEAN bathrooms all around — Mark and Paul did a good job on this overhaul.

Opening night! So these guys legitimately got their inspection around 3 hours before they opened and they were set to open tomorrow… but they couldn’t wait!!! And for good reason. This place replaced our beloved Pourhouse. Honestly, I was sad when I walked in. I missed the Hartford staple that was«Pourhouse». Even though it wasnt that great, i missed the pool tables and barrels of peanuts. But it didn’t take long for it to fade. The owner, Paul, and his team refinished the entire inside and it’s now a gorgeous country bar(way nicer than rocking horse). Think glowing red lights behind a vast beer bottle selection and Sam Adams kegs used for decorations behind the tap. The décor is a mix of brick and rustic wood. What used to be the pool table area in pourhouse will soon be a kitchen(can’t wait to give it a run). Their bartenders and the bouncers were friendly(he filled me in on the demise of Pourhouse) and we got a drink promptly. The funky smell of pourhouse is gone, bathrooms are sparkling new and there were already more bartenders behind the bar than I ever saw at Pourhouse. We never waited for a drink… and it’s still their first night! I’d imagine once the kinks are worked out they will be every better, which is why I leave them room to improve. Great sangria, drinks specials, and the owner is super friendly. It’s worth your while, especially if you like country music, to check out this new joint. Soon, after New Years, they will have a club upstairs and the kitchen… let’s see!
