They make the BEST kielbasa and cold cuts. I make the trip every once in a while from southern CT to Adolf’s. You can taste the difference in quality.

This was my first time here. They were very helpful. I told them I was doing an Oktoberfest. They worked with me on getting all the items I needed. The food was awesome! I will go back again and again.

Lovely staff, great food. It is not close to me, but it is worth the drive.

This place is great. My Mom is German and I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid. Some of my favorites: Knockwurst, Bratwurst, Veal Loaf, Black Forest Ham, Rye Bread, Saurkraut. All of these things you can’t get anywhere else and have it taste as good, except for maybe you could find comparable Rye Bread at a bakery.

The meats are always fantastic. So many different kinds of wursts and kielbasas. And the counter help is great.

Authentic, quick & helpful owners. They smoked, there own meats. Big selection of cooking and grocery needs. All the meat, sausage, cheese and cold cuts all in one place. My favorite is the fresh bratwursts. You can even pick up paper towels if you need them.

Just like a trip to Central –Eastern Europe, circa 10 – 29 years ago. Amazing meats, sausages, pickles, chocolates and baked products!!!

Great place to find Eastern European groceries. If you are looking for old world authentic meats, this is the place. No frills, no sparkle, just good real food. They specialize in sausages. Numerous kinds of kielbasa, kishka, several wursts, head cheeses, and other stuff I didn’t know existed. They do whole roasts for parties(pigs, lambs, goats). He also does custom game meat processing for hunters. A real treasure right here in Hartford.

If there’s an official list of Hartford’s Hidden Gems, this has to be high on it. No, it’s not too impressive from the outside, and yes, its name is, um, Adolf’s, but this is like nirvana for any meat-loving epicureans. Step inside and you’re greeted by the scents of smoked meats, Polish and German being spoken, and a display case full of every kind of «wurst» sausages you can imagine — it feels like you’ve teleported to Eastern Europe. Almost everything is freshly made on the premises, and extremely reasonably priced. The bonus: the people who work here are incredibly friendly and helpful… ask about anything and they’re likely to grab it out of the case, slice off a section and hand it to you to try. Don’t forget to stock up on hard-to-find candies and chocolates for the kids(or yourself) while you’re here.

Adolf’s doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it all changes when you get out of your car and smell the smoker. Great cuts of pork — and they are more than willing to make suggestions based on your recipe and budget. Their sausages(weisswurst and knockwurst) are flavorful and far away the best in the area. Good selection of some hard to find German and Polish groceries, as well. I haven’t been able to try their hams yet, because I never seem to catch them in store. They can run out of their specialties, so if you are looking for something specific, you might want to call ahead.

As a proud resident of the south end, people assume that I spend a lot of time at Mozzicato’s, because they seem to suck all the air out of the room when it comes to food in this part of town. Well, those people are ignorant and ill-informed, because the real reason to move to the south end, or more precisely, Barry Square, is Adolf’s Meat & Sausage Kitchen. The sausages are all good, without question. When there is a holiday, there is special kielbasa and it is better than the regular kielbasa. The regular kielbasa is already really good. The blood sausage is the only blood sausage worth eating. Most people think blood sausage is gross, then they try Adolf’s and their opinion changes. The varying wursts are better than what I’ve had in Germany. When I was in Germany, I ate so much wurst looking for something comparable to Adolf’s that I swore off meat for five years. Of course, that didn’t deter me from Adolf’s upon my return, because there’s even stuff for vegetarians. I recommend the pierogies in the zip lock bags over the shrink wrapped ones. They’re just as good as the ones you get at Staropolska. The smoked eel and trout is also good. They’re a regular butcher, too, so you can get regular cuts of meat, too. I believe that their beef comes from Enfield, so it’s local. They sell several kinds of cheap caviar, which is nice, because cheap caviar makes a lot more sense on top of a saltine than the expensive kind. The canned fish selection is good, so is the pickled thing selection, the spaetzle selection is excellent. You can also buy an entire pig from Adolf’s. I have not done that. If you require Germans or good things or good German things, look no further than Adolf’s. Additionally, they sell good Polish things.

A fantastic place to buy authentic Polish, German, Hungarian, and eastern European style meats and grocery items. Staff is friendly and helpful. Lines can be long, but don’t let that detour you, it just means good food awaits. Pro tip: try the blood sausage and liverwursts. Even if you’re not a fan of organ meats, these are made well and spiced how they should be so it does taste metallic or gamey.

The meats are awesome, and a great idea for a BBQ. Sausages, wursts & kielbasa — awesome. Everyone who works here is extremely friendly, especially Petra, a lovely German woman. While I was there she handed out a couple samples of hot, tender bacon — it was ridiculously mouthwatering. I’ll definitely be back for more.

I love this place and I’m a vegetarian. The attraction is not the meat but the bread and the wonderful assortment of imported foods. Can’t get enough of that Lithuanian bread; stock up with plenty to take home and freeze every time I am in the area. Other favorites: poppy seed cake, pflaumenmuß.

The Wurst is awesome; when grilled it’s snappy casing burst open to expose the meat gold inside. This stuff reminds me of the Wurst I had while on duty in Germany. In fact I think I’m going to see if they are open, grab a few knackwurst and brats for the games today.

This is a great meat market for anyone seeking German-style and Eastern-European-style meats and groceries. We come here for the hot dogs. They’re not for everyone, as the natural casing actually has a bit of flavor, and may be a bit too exotic for some tastes. There’s a great assortment of fresh, cured and smoked meats. On a recent visit, the smoker was on and the store and the parking lot were redolent of sweet smoke. Once or twice we were disappointed that the cold cuts we’d purchased(liver wurst on one visit, ham on another) were less than fresh. At first we thought it was a misguided attempt at exotic flavor, but nope, guests confirmed that the meat was just plain baaaaad… Prices run a bit high here. But then, some of the items they make here you can’t get anywhere else so I should stop complaining. Ask for their barrel sauerkraut. It’s very, very nice. Breads were disappointing several times, but then, the dry, mealy style is typical of this kind of cuisine. Try it and you’ll probably visit over and over, as do we.

I have been going to Adolf’s meats for a long time. The meats, sausages, coldcuts, ect. are excellent. Most are made & smoked at the shop. It usually is very crazy busy during the holidays, so expect a wait. The native language in the shop is Polish„ but everyone speaks english, so no worries. It feels like ‘home’ to me… I can’t tell you if I have any favorites, as they are all great ! Items at the holidays are traditional smoked eels (I know, I know, Just try it. the meat is very sweet & tasty) Kielbasa of all types, and the fresh Bratwursht are killer. This shop is NOT closed ! They had a fire a few years back and were closed for repairs. ! Open for business ! As a tradition for this pilgrimage, I usually get some coldcuts, and some of the rye bread, and make &eat a sandwich in the parking lot !
