Golden China Restaurant

I absolutely hate writing negative reviews because I don’t want to bring anyone’s business down, but my experiences at this restaurant have been extremely unsatisfactory. The food is good, but it’s the wait staff my family and friends and I have had issues with.
Three out of the four times I’ve gone, during our meals, the wait staff has hovered over us and not let us have a moment’s peace. It’s more than taking our plates when we’re done, they take them BEFORE we’re done, mid-​conversation, mid-​bite. It wouldn’t be as much of an issue if it only happened a few times, but this is continuous. And I never want to be rude to anyone, so it’s hard to speak up for myself when I really wanted that last bite.
The last time my family and I had dinner there will be our last. We sat down at 8pm and we were one of the only people in the restaurant and our check was on our table right after we sat down with our first plates. They close at 9:30. At the same time, other members of the staff were starting their closing procedures, vacuuming around our table and packing up the food an hour before closing time. I work retail, I know what it’s like when people come into the store right before we’re supposed to close, but this was not the case. I also understand wanting to start closing procedures early, to leave work as soon as you can and go home and put on sweatpants, but we literally had over an hour and a half to eat and we felt very rushed and uneasy. On top of not being able to hold a conversation over the noise of the vacuum, we were being stared at and hovered over. It’s hard to enjoy a meal with so much going on.
I’m not the kind of person to write negative reviews, or even say anything negative about food service or anything, I just thought my experiences may help sway people on their dining choices.

I love this place.
Every time I visit my sister and her husband, I have to come here.
I stuff my face with everything. Soups, sushi, General Tso, crab rangoon, all the goods. All of them.
And then I feel sick because I just ate my weight in food.
Love it!

My favorite Chinese buffet.
Great food, and competitively priced with other buffets in the area.
$ 11ish dollars a person.

Not much food variety, about 50 items. Food is fresh and taste good. And for lunch is only $ 7.75 it is no-​brainer.

Came here while on vacation. Food was pretty good, not amazing. If you want amazing take a trip to NY city. But still a very decent place to eat. There was a decent variety. Service was not too friendly but they responded to requests efficiently. Not sure I would stop here again on future trips.

Above average Chinese buffet. There is a small selection, but I believe that means the food was better quality than what you find at some larger buffets. The food on the buffet was kept fresh. The Pepper chicken had great flavor and a little bit of a kick. I also really enjoyed the California Roll and pickled ginger.
We were surprised when we first showed up that we were the only customers, however by the time we left it was half full. We must have just beat the rush. All in all, good place to fill that Chinese craving.

Yuck! We threw $ 40 of «food» away after a couple of bites.

The sign says they close at 10. At 9:30 they rudely started vacuming and closing down the buffet. Food was just like any other Chinese restaurant nothing special.

Delicious buffet! There’s a good variety of meats, veggies, soups, sushi, and desserts for a reasonable price. It’s great for a quick meal while traveling, which is what we did today.

This is an excellent buffet! The coconut shrimp that they have on weekends is so important. I can’t get enough of it. I do get a little annoyed when the waitress reaches over my food to clean table items or refill soy/​salt/​pepper, but I’m so high on the delicious shrimp that I get over it.
In all realness though, I’ve lived in a lot of different cities and I’ve been to A LOT of Chinese buffets. This one is one of the best I’ve been to, if you can get over the waitresses whole reaching over the table while you’re trying to eat thing.

Having grown up in the Harrisonburg area, Golden China was always my go-​to for amazing Chinese food. My family went, and still goes, there often. Always the spot for my birthday and random outings with friends. The owner is super sweet. The food is always fresh. I’ll continue to go there when I’m back in town.

It’s an OK Chinese food. Is am glad I’ve Rey the previous reports saying that this is the best buffet. Now there is no need to try others. Small buffet, with limited choices, but it has a lot of traffic, which keeps the food fresh.

Like many others, this past Christmas Day we ordered take out from Golden China and it was ahhhhh-​mazing! Honestly, the best General Tso’s Chicken I have ever had. Seriously.
I am one of those picky eaters who always finds the bone, grizzle, or foreign object in my food, and when this happens I am done eating. Yes, this has ruined many a meal. This was NOT the case at Golden China… all good, high quality chicken!
My family has been going here for the past few years and the food is constantly good. While I have never eaten at the restaurant, it appears to be clean and nice… your typical Chinese buffet. The staff is friendly and nice.
Can’t wait to visit my parents and suggest we get take out for dinner!

This is our new favorite place! Prices are just right! Food is fresh. warm and a huge variety. I eat vegan and was able to fill my belly up good. Staff was so supper nice and friendly. They even took the time to make a special plate for me for my birthday

I was in the Burg, so I thought I would stop in here. I remember it fondly growing up with Harrisonburg and Waynesboro locations. I was not overly impressed with the buffet for the $ 10 price tag for lunch.
The server was very nice and checked in often.
Sushi had sat a little too long, soup was good, most of the meat and vegetable entrée’s were more vegetable than meat.
If you plan on spending this much for lunch, there may be better options.

The buffet is good. The service is adequate. The people who work their? Less than friendly. If that’s something you can overlook, then this is one of the better Chinese restaurants in Harrisonburg.

Its tasty food and fresh.. The buffet is not very diverse just a few kind of foods. It’s very clean and beautiful place. I personally hate going to a restaurant without napkins. You literally have to ask for napkins because they don’t give out any and I find that very unwelcoming

This is my favorite Chinese buffet in the Harrisonburg area. The food is usually fresh and the buffet carefully managed. I particularly enjoy their shrimp and fried mushrooms — exceptional for a buffet. There are cheaper buffets in town, but the quality of food here is superior.

This place use to be a lot better about a decade ago. I’ve been here twice in the last year and the second shot was just because I was feeling generous that day. Every single time I come here, the food is burnt and not tasteful in the slightest. It’s too bad because the place looks really cool on the inside and outside and the staff is really nice.

Always fresh. Excellent buffet. They keep the standard fare, and a few extras. I like the variety. Vietnamese rolls are my favorite appetizer, and thye have an egg custard that is my favorite dessert.
