This review is being posted late from about 2 months ago. Based on the reviews, my expectations were very high. Unfortunately, the lunch menu does not have the chicken & waffles … Booo — I really wanted them. The service was ok, but I feel they should understand the menu better when asked questions. The black bean /plantain Neapolitan and the loaded fries were amazing and my BF’s burger was great … We traveled and hour … The mixed drinks were delicious, however, come in a very small glass s d not worth the price at all. If we lived in area we would go back but would not make a special trip. Recommendation — get the chicken & waffles on the lunch menu.

Went over Memorial Day weekend for the first time and sat at the bar. The bartenders were very helpful with ordering warning us we wanted to try too many different things. The cocktails were very different and yummy. The food was rich and delightful. I wasn’t wowed by the staff but that might of been bc it was a holiday weekend and no one should have to work a holiday weekend…

We’ve been there multiple times… good is always delicious, service is top notch. We love trying new beers and seeing which wings are on special! Yes, you will have to wait 45 mins at least, during prime dinner hours on the weekends, but that should be understood. Shrimp and grits are a go-to of ours, and the bartender with the long blonde hair(I’m sorry I don’t remember her name!) makes the perfect Greygoose dirty martini. LOVE this place, highly recommend.

Need more Vegan options! However for all the meat eaters in the world this place is for you. Gastropub feel great any day of the week. It gets pretty busy Thursday through Sunday so be prepared for a wait!

We stopped here last night before a night out at the carnival. Per Unilocal it was the best restaurant in Harleysville. Upon arrival we were sat almost immediately. The place is very open and plenty of seating. My first impression when we arrived that there was a awkward smell. Not a bad smell, just different, musty? Our server was very nice and she went over all of the specials. m Having never been here we started with 2 appetizers. We ordered the habanero wings and the fried pickles. The wings were huge! Full wing and came with an order of 6, the sauce was also very good. It had just enough heat without being over bearing. The fried pickles on the other hand were just bad. They were overly fried and burnt, you could barley taste the pickle. For entrees we ordered the mahi and the pork belly risotto. The mahi was cashew crusted with roasted sweet potatoes, wilted greens, chive sauce. It was very tasty. The pork belly risotto was amazing! It was risotto with pistachios, pork belly and hoisin. It was on point! We ended with the mixed berry and ice cream. It was very good but very tart. The ice cream was from a local farm and was very good. Overall this was a great place. The service was good, the food was good and the prices were very fair. The portions are on the small side but that’s to be expected for the prices. We would go back, solid 4 stars.

Absolutely love this place. The ambience is awesome. The menu may have some unique creations on it, but the place is totally laid back. The food is always creative and absolutely delicious. The portions aren’t huge but you’re certainly not leaving hungry either. And the bar staff is attentive and great for recommendations when you’re really not sure on what you want. Their drink menu and pretty extensive(especially the beer menu). Its nice to have a place in the area thats not your typical American bar & grill. And they tend to switch out menu items every couple of months so it keeps things fresh with always something new to try. Lastly they have daily specials in soups, hummus, wings, flat bread, cheese plates, and mussels — which its always fun to see what variations they have that day. I have yet to be disappointed with a meal here. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for something different!

First time at he Butcher and the Barkeep. Great meal. The only issue was that the chicken fingers in the kids meal were spicy. My son has a bland palette so that did not go over well. I thought they were fantastic but now i have to make a stop in the way home for him. Just odd to make the kids meal spicy. My daughter had a Cuban burger which was delicious. My husband had the burger with an egg on top. I had a waffle for my meal(as well as a few bites of everyone else’s). The fruity pebbles butter was interesting and the texture of the cornmeal waffle mix took a minute to get used to, but it was very good. There was a bit of a wait and we came at 2 pm but it’s Mother’s Day so that is to be expected. Beer selection is out of this world. We will definitely come back for dinner during the week. They had a special brunch menu so I want to try the regular menu. Staff was very nice as well, contrary to some other reviews I read. We live four miles away so we will definitely be coming back in the near future.

If your in the Harleysville area you may hear about Butcher & Barkeep as its a popular local spot. I have dined at B&B several times. Each visit varies. This instance we stopped in with the kids for an early dinner. The hostess was ready to seat us then she took a phone call and started to take a to go order while we waited. Another server eventually came to seat us because the hostess walked away. What is great about B&B is that they have an extensive IPA, cider, liquor, and cocktail list. I chose the Wyndridge cranberry cider. Yum! The service was ok it wasn’t bad or good. Our server was friendly but didn’t point out the chalkboard of specials or ask if it was our first time. The staff seems a little annoyed by their patrons which brings the vibe down. That being said I have had lunch with friends here and had excellent service so I guess it depends on the day. We started with an order of sexy fries(fresh herbs, Parmesan, Hollandaise, and truffle oil). These are to die for! Must try! The kids split the Chicken & Waffles with sweet and spicy syrup and fruity pebbles butter. They were more fond of the chicken it was crunchy battered heavy but my kids like that. They said the waffles were dry but I think that was due to the syrup being too spicy so they ate just the waffle & butter. I had my go to the Atlantic salmon with brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes in a balsamic glaze. They always cook their salmon perfectly! Crispy bottom(no grey slime) and med inside. Soooo good! My husband had the Rueban which he enjoyed especially since they serve with a side of fried pickles. Overall the food is good. If they stepped up the service just a bit and worked on wait times this place would be a home run!

This place is a great spot for the area! There are some hits and misses, and of course the claim to fame«sexy fries» are a hit. It gets really busy here and they have a good beer selection, the duck dish was a miss for me too many crispy parts and duck was cooked a little over for my liking. I got a fish dish there and the fish was cooked perfectly but it was a very blan flavor profile. Now some things like the chicken and waffles, fried pickles and the burgers will keep me going back. So I say A-ok, good spot and some good dishes to fill a craving.

Cool place. I’m an out of towner, came per advise of others. Bartenders were extremely friendly and made sure we had prompt service and a drink quickly!(Big plus for me) Busy night, we waited about 15 minutes for a table which was not too bad. Our server was very attentive and friendly as well. Menu was a bit eclectic but pretty good. Shared the sexy fries(decent) Friend one had shrimp and grits and loved it. Friend 2 and I both ordered the ribs, I don’t remember what my side was. They were really good. Sadly no dessert was consumed due to being way too full. Gave it four stars in lieu of five due to a semi limited menu.

A hidden gem in Harleysville, boasting an impressive beer selection and fun menu. We loved the angry fries, with chorizo, cheddar gravy, and jalapeño, as well as the grouper fish tacos(a personal favorite of mine generally, and these were right on par). Yum!

Great spot for lunch and dinner. Awesome comfort food. Go for the sexy fries and the wings. Excellent craft beer list and whiskey list. Be sure to get there early if you want to get a seat. One of my favorites in the area.

Heard about the fries and as I’m not a french fry lover, I looked at the menu online and knew this was a place I’d want to try. Wait time: We went at prime time on a Friday, 7pm. Knew there would be a wait. We were told 50 minutes which I think is what you’d expect for a place this size with a good reputation. We had two beers and were seated in about 60 minutes. Nothing to gripe about. I would suggest they get the beeper things for waiting guests. The poor hostess has to walk around shouting people’s names all around the bar area. It was a tad annoying but mostly I felt bad for her. The beer list was great. No complaints. Something for everyone. Wine list looked good too. Now the food: Since our trip here had started with hearing about the Sexy Fries, we decided to try them out. Ho-ly. COW. As I said, I’m not a fry person, but we inhaled these. I hope no one was watching us! If you only go for the Sexy Fries, it’s still worth it. My SO had the chicken and waffles. Syrup was a sweet and spicy and the Fruity Pebbles butter sealed the deal! It’s 4 days later and he’s still reminding me about his chicken and waffles. I had the duck risotto. It was delicious! The duck had a smokey flavor and the risotto was cooked perfectly. The only thing that I’d say wasn’t 100% was that the duck slices on the plate were served at room temperature. This wasn’t noted on the menu but our server alerted me to it. I like to try things the way the chef intended so I went with it. I think I would have preferred it hot, but oh well. That is the only thing that wasn’t spot on and it’s purely preference. Service: not a single complaint. Knowledgeable, friendly, checked in often but not too often. Price: Our two beers each(plus tip) came to about $ 28. Our meals and app totaled ~$ 35. If you don’t include the drinks, I’d say this place was cheap. Couldn’t believe the quality for the price! This place is a bit of a hike for us, but we will certainly be back! It was worth it!

I’m giving 3 stars, mostly for the annoyance. I went here on a Thursday night… no reservations or call ahead seating available or room at the bar to sit. The wait was 50 minutes. No thanks. I came back on a Monday night. I figured I’d get a table right away and heard great things about this place so I gave it another chance. There wasn’t a wait and a decent amount of open tables. Pregnant and tired, I asked for a table for three. The hostess told me I couldn’t sit until the third person in my party was there, but I could climb up on a bar stool at the bar and wait there. I ordered a Shirley Temple. I then asked the hostess if I could sit at a table if I ordered an appetizer. She said fine. The food was decent, but not good enough to forget about my treatment in a half empty restaurant. Zero chance I’ll return.

Who would have thought such a great restaurant was right there in Harleysville! So glad friends of ours turned us onto this place. For starters, definitely get the sexy fries… they are delicious! Unfortunately eating these are not going to give you sexy thighs! On my first visit here, I went with the meatloaf sandwich, which was pretty good, but on my second visit, I got the outstanding hamburger. It was messy to eat, but oh so delicious! On both occasions, I got the Pot de Crème for dessert – also fabulous. There are a number of other items I still want to try on the menu, so we will definitely be going back… soon!

We’ll start with the good: The ambience, the location, the food. Black bean burrito came with a basket of well seasoned, perfectly hot and salty fries. SO yum. Crabcake sandwich was on point! A generous size, fresh, seasoned and hearty. You definitely get your money’s worth for food vs. money price. Now what I didn’t like: our waitress. Who was SO uninvolved in her job I almost thought someone was playing a joke on us. She was less than thrilled to be there. Shuffled to the table, shuffled away. If I didn’t know better, I would have assumed she spent the night drinking at her own bar and had a hangover. Second: they had every beer in the world there. So, I figured I was safe with a Sam Summer and my friend ordered a Mike’s. Nope. Okay. She went with the Granny Cider. I ordered a Blueberry Ale. Nope, try again. REALLY?! After my boyfriend went to the bar for the 3rd time, I jokingly said«If they don’t have this one or this one, I just want water.» So, minus a star for not having beer that I wanted(twice) and a really odd/intimidating waitress. But, not enough to detract from what B and B really is. I’m stoked there is someplace solid in Hville AND with good food and beer. My Philly Pale Ale though, was amazing. I just want to point out real quick I notice a lot of people mentioning things about pricing. I was born and raised in PA and moved to CT15 years ago. I come back to visit often. This place is a dime a dozen where I am HOWEVER, you’d be talking $ 18 – 25 for these dishes that people would happily pay. I honesty thought $ 13 for a sandwich with fries was cheap. Obviously I’ve lived in CT way too long but man oh man, appreciate what you have. I’d kill to have a place like this up there with these prices. They’d do a killing!

I was visiting family in the suburbs of Philadelphia and imagine my surprise when we ended up driving 30 minutes further into exurbia for dinner. Located in an unassuming plaza, Butcher And Barkeep is a not so hidden gem in Harleysville. *No reservations, come early or be prepared to wait. We arrived early, and when I say early I mean they were just finishing up lunch and there were only two to three tables open and we were able to snag one of them. The space is on the smaller side but it’s by no means tiny, they have a large bar and a decent size dining area that could easily accommodate medium or even large sized groups. Based on my conversation with the Owner, they are looking to expand into the adjacent room and hold private parties. Service was excellent, between the server and the attentive owner we were well taken care of the entire evening. I enjoyed a lively Bloody Mary conversation with the owner and based on that conversation my first beverage for the evening was a Bloody Mary which had just the right amount of heat and complex flavors, an excellent way to start. All other cocktails for the evening disappeared quickly(slurp) and were wickedly strong. The beer list is also exceptional and has the variety to please everyone(I guarantee it), beer aficionados unite. Portions, portions, portions! If you take away anything from my review please remember that the portions could feed a small army. The menu is split into Salads, Dinner Small Plates, Dinner Sandwiches, Butcher Cuts, and Sides. The Dinner Small Plates I would consider normal dinner size for most people and some are large and can easily be shared. Butcher Cuts are oversized in my opinion and need to be shared. All the food was delectable, with each plate presented in front of me made my smile increase until I had a goofy grin on my face for the remainder of the evening. I had the pleasure of enjoying and sharing the Mahi Mahi(small plate), Duck Breast(small plate), and some Sexy Fries. The Mahi Mahi was crusted in cashews and paired with roasted sweet potatoes and wilted greens, the whole dish was well balanced and truly yummy. The Duck Breast was medium rare, just how it should be and accompanied by smashed root vegetables, sautéed greens and a honey rum sauce, it was my favorite for the evening. We also tried the Flatbread Special that evening, a Taco Flatbread that fell a little flat for me. It tasted like a taco, nothing more. I was hoping for a taco inspired flatbread, not a basic ground beef taco on top of pizza dough. The ingredients were piled high and too wet for the flatbread, it started falling apart pretty quickly and was a mess to eat. The Butcher And Barkeep makes a lasting impression and it’s obvious the owner(s) and chef take pride in what comes out of the kitchen and how each customer is treated. I enjoyed everything immensely, and the only thing I would wish for would be some more risks and innovation with the menu. Butcher And Barkeep is worth the drive and is above average on all fronts, with the potential to be exceptional with a few tweaks.
