This place is run by a sweet couple who are very aware of gluten intolerance issues and do their best to have as many gluten free options as possible. Most of the meat is safe, as are about half of the sides. Obviously, as they have flour based sides which are fried, the french fries are out due to contamination. They did say they would look into making sure their mayo will be safe in the future, making their potato salad safe as well. For the interim, their veggies and grits are all good… and they are good! The sauce on the pulled pork is the perfect balance of zing with just a hint of sweet. They serve it over a small bed of white rice. The other half says the fries were good: not overly salted greasy, or spicy. They weren’t crispy, but they weren’t mushy either. They were like a home fry in texture. The hush puppies were just the right amount of crispy crunch and moist inside, served with a dipping sauce that tasted like a horseradish mayo or ranch which complimented them well. Everything is made from scratch and you can taste the innovation, history and love with each bite. They also have sweet tea, peach sweet tea and berry sweet tea. The peach takes the sweet to overkill levels for most, but the berry sweet tea is very sweet without being overly sweet. It tastes like the peach sweet is made with the syrup from canned peaches. Smoothes and some soda were also available, if sweet tea is not your thing. You can pull up right onto the gravel lot the cart sits in, and park right in front of where you eat. As they are a food cart, with benches over gravel, well behaved pooches are welcome. Even our scardy cat, adopted rehabilitation in the works pooch was treated with understanding. They offer water for your thirsty fur buddies as well, and have their own lab mix ambassador in the back. There is also a covered bench area, to escape the hot sun on scorcher days(80’s for Portland), or if it’s wet, they would protect you as well. They area was decorated a bit, to give the sense of a mom and pop restaurant setting. The average meal price is $ 9 – 10, but the portions are large. Neither of us could finish our meal and between the two of us, there were enough leftovers for another night. I highly recommend this place, especially for those who are gluten intolerant and looking for some good eats in the area. Now if they could come up with a gluten free hush puppie, I’d be here every day.

Amazingly flavorful and freshly made. Cute couple more them willing to answer any questions you may have. I am glad that they opened this cart only a few blocks from my house. A definite must for my shrimp and grits fix.
