Stopped in on Saturday night for dessert and drinks at the bar. Nice atmosphere and fair prices. Very knowledgeable bartender.

Good brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks! Can get loud and noisy at times but has a great atmosphere. Decent happy hour special. My husband and I like the bar the most. The bartender here is very attentive. As others have mentioned, the mussels here are solid.

Not great. Nice atmosphere spoiled by inattentive service and lackluster food. Had the ham special-it was dry and literally charred around the edges. The asparagus on the other special of the day was not edible. Had to ask multiples times for drinks and condiments. The waiter didn’t come back to ask how our meal was until we were finished eating. Probably won’t be back.

I’ve been here a few times over the years and it used to be better. I went for a quick dinner thinking«this is a little upscale for a quick dinner» and was let down. The food was meh and was plated sloppy. I hope they turn it around.

I wish I could do five stars as the food quality was superb and was matched by the cozy and elegant ambiance. But the slow service was disappointing and they could have done better. We came in with a reservation and still had to wait an inordinate time. Then we sat down and it seemed they forgot about us for twenty minutes after which a head staff came in and took our order with not even an «I’m sorry». Anyone and any venue can have a bad hair day, though, and this may have been the case. Having said that, we went there for my birthday and(after the wait) we had a great dinner in the company of my spouse. The food was spectacular. We started dinner with the Butternut Squash Maple Soup, an enticing, appetizing and welcome beginning on a cool New England evening. Then we followed it with the beet salad as well as the roasted arugula and pear salad. The beet dish was magnificent, accentuated by the pistachios and the vinaigrette with s sweet and sour taste that was pleasant to the taste. The second salad was also remarkable; with a red pepper compote — delicious. Our main courses were equally outstanding, a good sized piece of cod — one of my very favorite fish, beautifully crusted, with potatoes and leeks. Yummy. Washed it down with a Catena Malbec. And with still a bit of room, we had the Crème Brûlée. Perfect dining. Great ambiance. It’s a pleasure to sit down at a restaurant that still uses white tablecloths. As they should.

I visited the Canoe Club with some old friends from high school on a Saturday night. The restaurant was busy but we immediately got a table. The owner of Canoe Club came over and actually chatted with us for a bit, which was nice. The interior décor was nicely decorated for the holidays. I got the Canoe Club cheeseburger, with Swiss cheese, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, and tarragon mayo on an onion roll. It was served with lettuce, tomato, and a pickle, plus your choice of regular or sweet potato fries. The burger was tasty and our waitress was very friendly. The prices of other items on the menu did seem a bit high though, but that’s what you get for being in one of the more upscale restaurants in Hanover that caters to Dartmouth College students and their families.

I’ve lived in the area a while now, but just went for the first time this year. Love the old fashioned country club atmosphere. Bartender was awesome. I got some mushroom thing that looked like grey vomit and tasted like an angel had blessed it with golden prayers. Would go again.

Canoe Club is one of those places that you can’t help but nostalgically miss — a place where fond memories are created, transfigured, and locked into the deep recesses of one’s heart. The place somehow magically oozes this old world charm, delicately balanced with a fine elegance and class that makes you feel that you’re right at home while being served the epitome of fine food in Hanover. Deep, warm color palettes paired with beautiful water walls(where the waiter so graciously seated us after our request in our reservation) and live piano music steal my heart every time. Waiters are also quite charming, making you chuckle and feel more at ease with every encounter. After just soaking and reveling in the ambiance, you move onto the food, where, of course, Canoe Club continues its trademark of excellence. It begins its aria with a beautiful presentation of fresh Maine mussels, which they pair with an amazing garlic aioli fry accompaniment. The plump sweetness of the mussels act as the expressive alto counterpoint to the savory bass of the garlic aioli/butter, all while the distinctive, clear Chardonnay soprano trills above the rest of the luscious chorus. As for the Freeform Lasagna, such color and vibrancy in a pasta dish I have yet to see elsewhere. The chef evokes pictures of the first plentiful fall harvest on the heels of summer’s final days with the dish’s youthful play with vegetables and pasta. Incorporating the flavors of slightly charred bell peppers that still burst with flavor, the pasta reminds you of the summer sun, in all of its brilliant, juicy energy finally fading beyond the horizon into its final smoky wisps. As with all changes, though, the pasta must naturally give way to the flavors of fall, which have been perfectly captured in the overflowing cornucopia of ripe, savory tomatoes, woody, earthy mushrooms, and mellow, melted parmesan. The initial onset of fall fog is also represented here, as the baby spinach and scallions remind you of your first encounters with the morning dew. And of course, what better way to celebrate this metamorphosis of the boldness of summer to the golden vibrancy of fall than with a little alcohol? Again, the chef doesn’t disappoint here, as the Chardonnay, now in a different role, plays as the mediator between the two seasons represented in this dish. The brilliance of the food paired with the most comforting environment make Canoe Club an undeniable winner in my book. So to Canoe Club I say, I will be back for you, and oh how I look forward to that day where we meet again.

Had a wonderful lunch — enjoyed reasonably priced mussels and pizette. Good wine selection and excellent staff. Great for all ages.

Really solid food here. I ate at the bar, so can’t speak for table service. However, our bartender(female, short hair, arm tattoo) was very attentive and really played her part as a server. I had the Masquerade Lemonade cocktail with gin, lemon, and basil(subbed him for cognac with no problem). For my meal, I had the prosciutto and fig salad and the duck cassoulet. The salad was scrumptious, and I’m usually wary of figs. For some reason, I was in the mood tonight. What made the salad special was the bed of phyllo that sat atop goat cheese. This added great texture and creaminess to the salad when all mixed together. the goat cheese and peppery arugula offset the sweetness of the figs and vinaigrette. A well balanced appetizer that I thoroughly enjoyed. The cassoulet was obviously heavier, but it was a bit too heavy on the red wine for me. It also featured stewed chicken if I’m not mistaken. It was served on a bed of spinach, although I prefer the classic French cassole serving vessel. I opted to get the dick confit which was $ 24 vs the chicken and pork sausage version for $ 18, I believe. I was not disappointed– it was perfect for a brisk night. The bar experience was actually pretty comfortable and I like the balance of classy restaurant with a sports bar feel(due to the TV screens and white tablecloths). There were a few other dishes I was considering, hopefully I’ll get to try before I leave town. Thanks for the great hospitality!

This review is based on a single Friday night trip to the bar, so I can’t speak to the food. The bar has plenty of seating — expert classic cocktails and a fantastic selection of liquors, including some locally crafted ones(like Whistle Pig Rye). The beautiful people started streaming in starting around 11pm, and the vibe(and music) transitioned from Lounge to kind of an Ivy League sports bar.

Of the various establishments in Hanover proper, this is my current choice of a place to get a meal with some peace and quiet and a little atmosphere — mind you, while we went in jeans, the posh set in jackets and ties shows up too. The staff made us feel welcome and the food was good. I recommend the pastrami sandwich, and the BLT and apple galette were good too. The restaurant isn’t inexpensive — $ 40 for lunch of two sandwiches, two teas, one desert, tax and tip, but it was a good place to have a relaxed conversation with reasonable service.

Drinks before dinner here Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Good service, strong drinks, and great apps. Nice atmosphere and a very skilled pianist playing piano bar music. If I lived nearby I’d be back! But it’s a long trip from Denver.

Arrived around 7 – 7:30, was told we’d be seated in 10 minutes, but we didn’t get a table until 8:30. Service is also very, very slow. The food selection is okay — nothing to write home about. Live music is nice.

I went to this restaurant because the menu sounded really nice. We ordered an appetizer that had orzo, tofu, and middle eastern spices. When we received it, it tasted sour and rancid, and I found a hair in the food. I sent it back and left without receiving entrees. I also found the place to be very dirty, dusty, and sour smelling, like the carpet was moldy or something.

Unfortunately this used to be my favorite place in Hanover. But over the years the quality has gone down hill, to the point of food poisoning. My father became extremely ill after eating their seafood chowder and had to be hospitalized. When my Mom called to let them know of this incident, they hung up! Can you even imagine? She was completely nice about it, but just wanted to make sure that they knew what was happening! Clearly they didn’t care, and didn’t want to hear about it. Never again will I eat here! Food poisoning is not something to mess with.

For of us for dinner on a Saturday night. Waitress nice but service slow. Ordered their seafood stew($ 25) because the person at the next table had it. It smelled great and was well prepared. Mine unfortunately was like warm. Sent it back and they reheated it overcooked all the seafood and vegetables and they tried to dress it up with spinach leaves. What pathetic execution for their to proceed dish. Interesting that I had an opportunity to let the manager/owner know of the problem initially but when i let them know of the reheat(and they removed from the bill) he didn’t have the decency to come over.(And he knew one of our party too sheesh) The other meals were fine and overall the other dishes were good, had a nice cheese platter as an appetizer, hence going two stars but I won’t be going back. Left feeling like they have such a good gig going in small town Hanover, customer satisfaction is not real high on the priority list for the owner

I ordered Open-faced Pita and my friend ordered Curry Chicken Salad. My dish was pretty disappointing. Falafel was salty and there weren’t enough veggies on it so I asked for more and the waitress kindly gave more. Also, I think the idea of an open-faced falafel sandwich on a flatbread is weird because it’s hard to eat — I couldn’t hold it in my hands like I would with a wrap. So I had to use my knife and fork but it didn’t really work well either. On the side, I ordered sweet potato fries and they were salty as well and weren’t as crispy as I wanted them to be.(Sweet potato fries at Salt Hill Pub are amazing by the way). The dish itself is a good option for vegetarians though. I took a bite of my friend’s dish, the curry chicken salad, and I didn’t really like that either. The curry chicken was served cold and I don’t think curry in a cold dish works well. Also, the flavor didn’t taste like curry that much. I think food at this restaurant is generally salty. I tried the sauteed mussels and fries last time, and I remember it being salty for me. Or maybe it’s just me, because I have a pretty bland taste. For food, I would give 2 stars but because I like the ambience(so cozy) and service, I am giving this place 3 stars overall.
