Had a wonderful valentines dinner last Sunday at The Farmhouse at the Grand Colonial! The pork cheeks appetizer was amazing, as was the fried squash blossoms. My husband has his favorite pan seared duck and of course it was delicious. My porky osso buck was so tender and delicious. Service and atmosphere always top notch! Strolling violinists… very romantic. Can’t wait to go back! Duckman’s wife;)

This is a nice find right off Interstate 78 in beautiful Hunterdon County, NJ. I have been by this restaurant so many times that I have lost count, yet never dined there. I have no reason why I did not try it sooner, perhaps too close to a major interstate? Well we did try it this weekend & we were very happy that we did! If you like historic farm house manor charm with a clean, rustic stone interior, wonderful décor & hide away intimacy, the Farmhouse could be for you. Oh yeah, dinner & dessert were good too, along with great staff & great service! Only a few questionable areas: a bit limited wine list(although what was there was fine) & a string duo(for Valentie’s Day — violin & guitar) that roamed the premises that was way too loud. Other than that, check it out, much on the scale of the Golden Pheasant(Erwinna, PA) & The Inn at Phillips Mill, New Hope, PA. Neat casual attire.

I have never had an experience like this. Service awful. An hour to get appetizers, after another hour asked if we would be getting bread and told coming right up then waited 15 minutes It was almost 3 hours before our meal was served. The chicken pot pie was dry and reheated, the prime was dry, the filet mignon was good but no one at the table had them cooked to their desire. Having read other reviews of this restaurant I would assume something was very the night we dined but it was Christmas Eve and they were not that busy. One would expect them to put their best foot forward. I give it one star because Unilocal will not allow zero stars

Wanted to give another review to the farmhouse with 5 stars. We are NEVER disappointed when dining here! We go as often as we can and the service is excellent and the food is to die for! Go & enjoy!

Went here for our anniversary dinner since we got married in the ballroom next door. We were seated at the far end of the dining area in a very tight spot. Our server was very brash and unprofessional. She kept cutting me off when I spoke and would yell at the busboy who was clearly new. Very uncomfortable atmosphere. This place’s only saving grace is that the food is exceptional. A bit pricey, but quality ingredients. Wouldn’t dine here again, too bad they dont do takeout…

We had a babysitter for the night so my wife and I decided to try this place. The service was awful, we waited at least 10 minutes for our drinks, we sat down at 7:30 and didn’t get our main course until 9:00pm and when we did my prime rib sandwich was cold in the middle. The server was very apologetic and took the sandwich off the bill so we appreciated that. Overall, it was a very bad experience, empty glasses were left on the table, dirty appetizer dishes sat in front of us while we waited for our food(30 min) and management wasn’t to be seen. In my opinion, management is completely to blame for lack of training and continual coaching. No server should ever leave your table without removing dirty items and various members of the team should be checking on a table, not just the specified waiter, especially in a restaurant as high end as Farmhouse.

Sitting outside was by far the best part of the dining experience although it would be nice to have music playing outside to take away from the sound of traffic on 78 or an ongoing wedding in the back. I suggest the small plates selections to branch out and experience some items that you are not likely to see elsewhere in Hunterdon County. The food is «organic» and fresh which seems to be the popular movement in dining. I can’t say that I noticed that much of a difference, but to each his own. The wine list is quite basic, but there is a full bar so plenty of opportunity to tie one on. The waiters are attentive, knowledgeable and quick. You can eat well at the Farmhouse if you’re on a strict budget or not. It’s up to you. Enjoy!

What a wonderful place! I was so afraid we were underdressed, but we were warmly welcomed. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and helpful with the menu! I recommend the duck. I literally could not get enough. My husband got the yellowfin tuna and it was wonderful! We will be coming back soon! Well worth it for the money, effort and local cuisine!

Excellent food, setting and cocktails. The filet mignon was out of this world and cooked perfectly. Would revisit with a large group to sample small plates, fondue and cheese tower. Only gave 4 stars because of service. Was she new or not interested? Huge gaps between courses, empty drink glasses and I had to track her down for our dessert. Patio setting and live music by CB Radio helped lessen the service frustration.

Great food had the mozzarella tower skirt steak with gently sautéed baby kale n beets Just delish ! Polished it off with Irish coffee. Great wait staff. Sat in garden with live music. My only throw back was hostess was impatient with me when I wanted to know about seats I have problems sitting on hard chairs so she was obviously impatient and did not want to seat me at a particular table because we were only 2 but a few minutes later sat two at that very table with the more comfortable seats

I am here 2 – 3 times a year and always make it a point to eat here. In the past, I could not say enough great things about this restaurant. Some of the dishes that we and our guest have had were probably some of the best we’ve had. Unfortunately, that changed tonight. Tuna that was supposed to be seared, cooked all the way through. Banana Fosters, supposed to be cooked tableside, was not, and was terrible. Everything else was mediocre. There were only us and another table all night. Could that be a sign that people just are not going any longer? I don’t know. Service was good and staff very friendly. Not sure if I’ll be going back.

Had an impromptu Saturday night dinner here with the family thanks to a gift card. First, having Open Table as the reservation vehicle is great. No dress code — so no worries for kids. Ambiance is wonderful — lots of character. The menu is expansive with so many options at all price points. Loved the farm to table aspect of the menu. Too many choices — most expansive cheese selections we have seen in a while. We decided on numerous sides, small plates, as well as a burger. Everything was incredible — the complimentary bread assortment with garlic infused oil was awesome and an indication of the specialness of the meal to come. We had the baby seafood tower which was a treat of delicious king crab legs, lobster, ceviche, oysters and clams on the half shell and a lovely assortment of dipping sauces. Salads were excellent /we had the steakhouse and beet salads. Small plates and sides: pulled pork burrito, fried oysters, little neck clams, corn custard, classic Mac and cheese, potstickers, lobster risotto(special of the day)…all amazing and unique. Kids capped off their meal with the ice cream which was also devoured. There were numerous other items on the menu we would have loved to try. The price/value for this type of dining experience was excellent as well vs comparable places we have gone. Hope to be back! Highly recommend. While we didn’t go in, the banquet and special event facilities looked lovely too!

What a fabulous place for dinner. Lots of interesting choices for food. And a special place to have my birthday dinner. My mother and I each had a salad and a small plate. Her fried oysters were delicious. And I had the Harissa Swordfish special. Will definitely be coming back to visit The Farmhouse.

This was the first time I’ve been here since the official name change and separation of the special events area. Food and menu was just as great as I remember it. The ambiance of this old farmhouse is wonderful. Private tables and friendly service. I love that they don’t make you feel rushed at all.

The overall experience was a good one! The service was awesome and everyone was very friendly. The menu had a ton of delicious options and there was something for everyone. I got the mushroom soup which was really good, it was a creamy mushroom base with caramelized mushrooms on top for texture. I also had two small plates which was way to much food for me. The mushroom risotto was really flavorful and cooked perfect. The pulled pork burrito was OK not my favorite of the night. My husband had the grass fed sirloin burger and said it was a 10! It had homemade pickles, habanero relish, fries and blue cheese(the burger was bun-less FYI but that didn’t bother my husband) They bring you over a bread basket with delicious breads and roasted garlic olive oil. They also have a great selection of beers and other drinks. We will deff be going back!

I think the current 3.5 star average is pretty accurate. Went for anniversary dinner on Saturday night, and for the most part, it was a pleasant experience. Had a couple of specialty cocktails, the pear and the apple ones, both were good and pulpy. Started off with a 3 cheese plate, good cheeses and not expensive(11 dollars). Then a few small plates. both were solid for 8 bucks — Grilled octopus and beef tartare. The octopus had a nice char grilled flavor and was served with balsamic sauce and cannellini beans. The beef was tender, and well seasoned with a nice pile of crostini and a yolk. The wedge salad was just ok, and the wild mushroom soup was more of a mushroom sauce, a bit on the thick side and the mushroom was all but pureed, we’d have rather had bigger bites of mushroom in there and a bit thinner base. The wife was full at this point but I was in the mood for a steak so I ordered the ribeye. I’m big on rare and I made it clear I like it super rare, and I believe the server(who was great btw, very attentive and personable) relayed the message, however my steak came out mid-well, which I can’t overlook. So She refired it, and the second steak that came out was a bit over for me, but not too bad, the issue was it came out on the tough side. She did, however tell me it was comped so tough to complain about that. They also offered a drink on the house. This is why they get a 4 star(as opposed to 3). They made a very nice effort to make our experience positive. The soufflé was very good. I’ll be back but I doubt I will chance a steak. I’ll stick to Matt’s for steaks out in the area.

Highly recommended for spectacular ambiance and creative cuisine. Lots of attention to detail here from the artisan rolls and cheeses to the entrees. The mani mahi with coconut rice was superb and save room for the bananas foster made table side.

Let me preface this by saying I hate giving negative reviews and if you go through my history… You won’t find many of them. However, the food and service I received at this location was horrible. My wife and I waited 2 hours for our dinner order… Which was 2 beers, an appetizer, and 2 burgers… 2 hours. We had to wait 25 minutes just for someone to come to our table to take our drink order(which due to the wait time we placed our dinner order as well)… Which we then waited 20 additional minutes for 2 bottles of beer from the bar. We then waited 30 additional minutes for our luke warm appetizer(50 minutes from the time the order was placed). Then 40 minutes later we got our over cooked and flavorless burgers. No apologies, no sympathy, nothing besides poor service and subpar food. I will never return to this place and warn anyone thinking of going here to avoid it at all costs.
