After hearing rave reviews about the smoothed pork chops I decided to place an order for the first, which I called and the young lady advised it would be ready in about 20 – 25 minutes. I arrived about 30 minutes later and inquired if my order was ready, which it took another 10 — 15 minutes. I had to ask if she’d check to see if it was finally ready. Once I got home with my order there was«no gravy & onions», which was the reason I had placed the order. I called back to the café and she placed me on hold, and came back to advise they didn’t charge me for it, but it was on my order. She offered no apology that they’d gotten my order wrong and it was raining outside so I wasn’t going back. The pork chops were over cooked and very tough. For the $ 15 that was charged, I at the least expected them to be cooked but not over cooked. I will never order from them again and not recommend them to any of my friends!

Last night was my first time going. I was invited to a birthday party during Monday night happy hour. Got there at 8. Our party host had called ahead to reserve a table, and the wait staff let someone else sit at our table. Then we waited another 30 minutes to find other seats. When we did get a chance to order our wings(10 for 5 $ before 9) it took 40 minutes for the food to arrive at the table, and an over an hour for the drinks to arrive. Needless to say when the food did come, the waitress told us they ran out of wings and fries… never got my food while the rest of the table got theirs. Worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

It’s ok. The chitlins are very clean BUT lack flavor, the mac & cheese is good but oily, the cabbage was ok but could have had more flavor and they used the tough green leaves that most people throw out. It cost $ 17 for a small serving of chitlins and two small included sides. Pricey if you ask me

Not bad. Went on a night when they had open mic. All in all it was an enjoyable out of town dining experience with really nice restaurant staff…

Awful. Went to an office going away and reserved side room for event(@20 people). We were served with pitchers of water on the tables and plastic forks… had to ask for a knife. Food was dry and flavorless. Some of our party waited 40 minutes for food. Many guests had to be asked several times what they ordered. Overall bad ambiance(smelled musty) bathrooms were filthy!

Excellent food! So far I’ve had the chicken and shrimp and the whiting entrees with Mac and cheese, rice w/gravy, and yams as sides and the sweet potato pie for dessert. They were all very good but extra praise for the whiting, Mac and cheese And sweet potato pie. My cousin loved the smothered pork chops. Also great atmosphere and if you go on Friday, you’ll eventually get great music. I just dig the atmosphere.

I had a pork chop sandwich, it was alittle over seasoned but still really good! My husband got the jumbo shrimp collard greens and fries that was great as well!

My family and I visited Queen’s Way after driving from Williamsburg on Easter Sunday. We wanted some good soul food. This restaurant did not disappoint. The server was very pleasant, welcoming, and attentive. We did not have to wait long for our food as some of the previous reviewers mentioned. I had fried whiting fish, shrimp, mac and cheese, and cabbage. Everything had a good taste, with one exception. The cabbage seemed to have an «off» smell and slightly burnt flavor. With so many different foods on the table, I could not conclude for sure that the cabbage was smelly. I took it with me and smelled it later. It did, in fact, smell funny so I threw it away. I tasted food from my family’s plates too. The candied yams were especially delicious and the collard greens were good too. The ribs were a little tough, but had a good flavor. I would dine here again, despite the small problem with the cabbage. The other food and good service made up for it.

Food great service great until last night around 8:00 went in for a glass of wine. Both people(can’t use the word MEN were quite rude when asking for my ID) but I guess they were security guards were quite rude to me. I stepped out to take a call returned attempted to hand the«guard» my ID again. He replied I’ve already seen it. I will admit I gave him a nasty look but THEN… HESAID… I SHOULDCLIPYOU. a threat??? Saturday was the 1st time I have ever tried Queens way and I must say the food was great! We hosted a party which we rented for $ 75.00 and the bartender went out of her way to make sure they had table clothes on each table to match our theme. She greated us to make sure we were ok and if we needed anything. We had two waitress assigned to us and both were working so hard to make sure it was a hit. The room was a great size and had enough seating for everyone. The music was great, the drinks were on point and the food was awesome. My husband and I had the fish & shrimp platter and it was so good! The portion was good, the mac n cheese and the collards were delish! We had a great time celebrating our friends birthday and we would do it again at the same place if we had too!

Not a bad spot if you’re in the mood for soul food but I think Granny’s Country Cookin in Norfolk is better. The vibe is friendlier at Granny’s since granny is actually back there knockin’ it out while greeting you upon arrival. It’s not to say that Queens Way has poor service, quite the contrary. My server, Keisha, was nice, capable and willing to accommodate my needs. But I didn’t get that«roll out the red carpet» or even«welcome home» feeling that I received when I arrived at Granny’s. In fact, I stood at the entrance a good minute before Keisha greeted me and told me I could sit anywhere. But none of that’s a big deal since none of the staff was outright rude to me. The big thing, of course, is the food. I had smothered pork chops with a roll and a side of mac and cheese and rice and gravy. A hearty meal, to say the least, and it definitely was tasty. Based on that, the food definitely has soul and if you’re hungry this is a fantastic choice. The one drawback I noticed is their kitchen is slow — slower than I’d like. I didn’t have an appetizer, just a drink and an entrée. I dined alone, but sadly I waited a good 30 – 35 minutes before my entrée made it to my table. Looking around when I first walked in I knew the kitchen might get backed up — there was a party of three, a party of two, a party of eight and then a group in their banquet room. The banquet group definitely slowed things down and I was okay with that, but even Keisha came up to assure me that my food would be out in a few minutes. That table visit happened probably 15 – 20 minutes after I ordered. So there are a couple of ways to look at it — Keisha and their staff know that people have been waiting awhile or other customers have already pointed out the long wait for their food. That knowledge isn’t good especially if any of the customers are impatient. I wasn’t in a hurry so I didn’t worry or say anything. Queens is kind of dark inside but that may be by design. Fairly simple setup — a bar section in the back with two tvs, a small dining area and then the aforementioned banquet room off to the side. The place didn’t look messy but I stayed at my table for the duration of my visit. Overall I can’t complain but the experience didn’t blow me away. And considering the wait for the food I know some would’ve been upset. I wouldn’t make it a point to dine here unless I happen to be in the Hampton/Newport News area but if I’m very hungry I probably won’t risk waiting. JV

Usually come for the catfish. Good size portions however still very pricey for what you get. I always make sure I call ahead when doing take out because it seems to take them a long time to prepare food even though most nights there are no more than 8 customers in the place. Catfish is pretty good. Side dishes are kind of bland and could be improved. I’ll go again for take out but I’ll be suprised if they stay in business for years to come.

This was my second time going to this restaurant. The first time, it was great(service, food, etc). A close friend of mines just relocated from overseas and I decided to take him to this place for good soul food. We went on Sunday night 2 Nov. Hardly no customers were in there(only about 8 people total). However; it still took over 40 minutes for us to get our food. The waiter apologized and stated they had been like that all day because of staff shortage. I ordered smothered pork chop, Mac and cheese. It was disgusting! The pork chops were tough, the gravy tasted as though the cook simply added water to a powder gravy pack and poured it over my pork chops. The peppers he topped the chops with were extremely tough. After being truly disappointed with my entrée, I tried the mac and cheese. This was even worse! At the bottom of my bowl was oil and water. Hardly any cheese on the mac. The cook put no effort whatsoever in preparing this meal. I voiced my concern with the waiter and he had the nerve to debate with me about the quality of the food. I was so fed up, I asked for the check so we could leave. I started to be difficult and ask the manager to remove that disgusting food from my bill. But I paid and took it as a lesson learned. The next time you ask for a tip: Get a better cook. That’s your 15%.

This was my second time going here and my first time was great I loved the food and I loved the service, the second time not so much it took us at least 15 minutes to get menus and the server made sure she had a tip before we left, I ordered the Porkchop dinner smothered but the Porkchops were still pink and the collard greens tasted like leaves

Today was my first time at this restaurant and I didn’t dine in but ordered take out. Everyone was very friendly and I felt very welcomed by other people surrounding me at the bar as I waited for my take out order. The wait wasn’t very long and it was worth it. I ordered the shredded bbq and it was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended if you’re in the mood for some great soul food.

I love me some soul food! I don’t go to a lot of soul food places otherwised I’d be a lifelong ym rat but when I do I try to opt for good reputable joints recommended by friends. This is a nice relaxing spot, where you can just sit down and listen to some live music every now and a drink a cocktail or two. They do have happy hour and as one Unilocaler recommended thats the best time to get a drink as it can be pretty pricey otherwise. I went on a not so busy day and was promptly greeted. Everyone was so nice from the bartender to our hostess/waitress. I ordered some fried shrimp and tilapia with a side of greens and mac n cheese. The shrimp n tilapia was delish. The greens are a lot better than Krush’s greens but thier mac n cheese seemed a little bland to me. My sister ordered fried chicken and seemed satisfied. They are moderately priced but I feel like they don’t serve a whole lot, especially the side dishes. When I think of soul food I expect to be full and I wasn’t when I devoured my plate. The outside doesn’t look like much its next to a food lion and a feminine fitness studio. The inside is super casual and spacious. Overall, I’d go again for the live music and a drink. If I order food it’ll be something small so I won’t be left hungry.
