I found the atmosphere to be poor mainly do to the owners take it or leave it attitude. This place is nothing special but you would think the owners came from royalty. The bath room was filthy. The menu is over priced based on what you get. I won’t be back. Save your time, try somewhere else.

Old fashioned diner. Waitresses are friendly and helpful, and the grill is close to the seating, so you can hear the meat sizzling while you dine. So far I’ve had the pork chop sandwich, which was delicious, and the burger, which was fine. The dinner fries are a must. Definitely not a drive by, because places like this are disappearing and giving way to chains.

Come on!!! The people that said the steak sandwich is all that have NOIDEA what«flavor» is. I ate here this morning, ordered the monster and four scrambled eggs and let me tell you, monster does describe the size of it, no doubt but it’s tough, chewy and ridiculously bland. Mind you I didn’t order it well done either, medium was my choice. One and done for this overrated establishment, sorry Harvey’s, I won’t cheat on you again.

So glad we stopped here. Between the Perfectly done BLT Club and amazing pork chop sandwich(both coupled with awesome homecut steak fries), this place did not disappoint at all. The soup was really good, too. Awesome service and great blast from the past atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Inattentive waitress brought me my cold soup long after the entre‘ was served. Wasn’t surprised, as the cook was too busy discussing sports to be bothered with preparing a meal for the customer. I have been here a few times, and each time was worse than the time before. The last time I was there was, in fact, the last time I will ever go there.

Average region greasy-spoon restaurant. prices are a bit over priced, it’s not horrible, but it’s nothing to be doing cartwheels about either

Hand cut steaks… best in area. Really good food and prices. All the soups and side are made on site.

Nick and George’s is exactly what you would hope it would be from the looks of the place. The staff is friendly, the service is fast, the décor is non-fancy and warm, the food is pretty good, and the prices are cheap. It was a Tuesday, so of course I had the stuffed-pepper special, which was filling and yet didn’t seem nearly as overwhelmingly unhealthy as a steak sandwich with fries. The whole affair was a little bland, although much improved by a liberal coat of salt and pepper. Actually, it might be the best stuffed pepper I’ve ever had outside of Mexican cuisine. Four stars would be a stretch on the basis of the food alone, but given both the service and the poor competition, I’m erring on the side of generosity.

Was up in Hammond on business yesterday and stopped by this diner on the way back home. I had an enjoyable experience. I ordered the cheeseburger and I must say it was delicious they even grill the bun… tasty. The waitress was really friendly and smiled a lot. There were what appeared to be regulars in there who the staff knew on a personal level. I would say that if I am traveling to Hammond again that I will be making a stop there.

Went to Nick and George’s for the first time today for lunch. Tuesdays special is Stuffed Peppers… if I didn’t live 250 miles away I would be there every Tuesday! The filling was all ground beef and hardly any rice… the way it should be made. You get 2 very large peppers and a scoop of real… yes…real mashed potatoes!!! My Dad ordered the«Monster Steak Sandwich»…it lived up to its name! Not to mention that it was delicious! My Mom had ordered the stuffed peppers. I ordered the Italian beef sandwich… not a lot of overpowering spices. just the right amount of flavor. And my husband ordered a burger which was great too. Let’ s critique the handcut fries… I usually don’t like this type of French fry… I find them to be very greasy… but I will definitely order them here again. they were thick cut and not greasy! In my travels back and forth to the Chicago area I will seek out this restaurant on every trip!

I will first say, if this sounds like an advertisement for Nick & Georges, it’s because I had an experience there that separated the restaurant from 99.9% of the restaurants I’ve EVER been. I was not PAID to post this, and I have never been there before yesterday. This place doesn’t look like much from the outside– but DON’T let that fool you. This restaurant stands up next to the BEST restaurants I experienced in Chicago, London, Paris and beyond. Probably why they have been family run for over 100 years. The hospitality– I met Pete, a member of the family that runs N & G’s, and not only does he stress his personal relationship with his long time customers, he brings new ones like me into their world and shares his passion for his craft. You can tell he loves what he does. I met his mother who handles the food prep– what a sweet lady. The food– Everything is top quality and freshly prepared, and you can tell when you eat. I had a creamy chicken soup ordered an Italian beef sandwich with fries and they offered me a free order of their cole slaw. I DON’T eat cole slaw(EVER) but they insisted I try it. ITWASAMAZING! I ate it all! Not like cole slaw anywhere else I have ever been(which i always pass on to my wife), and I was seriously shocked at how much I enjoyed it. The soup, sandwich and uniquely cut fries stand apart from the same items at any restaurant I’ve been. Again, top quality fresh that you can taste. EVERYONE in NW Indiana(AND beyond) should know about Nick and George’s. It is a special place that I am so happy to have stumbled apon while doing business in the area. I insisted on bringing my wife back over the weekend because I know she will love it. If you like finding a «hidden gem» as one of the other reviews said, then this is the place for you.

I’ve been going here with my uncle for years. Well, only at this actual building a few times, because they used to be located in a different section of Downtown Hammond. From what I understand Al Capone used to eat at the original building, so it’s a shame it no longer exists, but the new building has a much nicer appearance and is much easier to find. The old place was pretty much hidden. For years I thought the actual name was«The Cancer Clinic», but apparently that’s just a weird knick-name. Now that I know the real name I never refer to it as that anymore because it just sounds wrong. My uncle and I do like to call it «Naked George’s» though, because if you say it really fast that’s the way it sounds. Anyways, I highly recommend«Nick & George’s», because their food is «da bomb» so to speak. They have really tasty burgers, and one day I might try everything else on the menu, but so far I’ve always gotten the burgers because they’re pretty awesome. So far I’ve never experienced rude or bad service neither. They have real nice waitresses and staff. It’s just a great little burger joint.
