Better call first I believe this place moved to Cincinnati no longer in Hamilton !!!

Food is bland to be kind. Service(25 – 35 minute wait to even have someone come over to our table) is horrendous to say the most. Ordered our main entrees and had a 45 – 50 minute wait to be served. Had to make three desert requests before we were told that this one was available. Here’s a clue, if you only make one pie a day or deserts are not available – do not put them on your menu. When we requested to talk to the manager, we were told that they were opening another restaurant in Cincinnati somewhere and to try that one…“maybe it will be better”. Let me get this straight, drive an hour south to another Mahogany’s so that«maybe it will be better»! Here’s a clue, my time is valuable, gasoline prices are high and so are your food prices. The four of us on our ride home all came to the same conclusion: we would be hard pressed to find something worse and no second chances — «maybe it will be better» We wish you success but you may need to find another career to be successful — –Dale and Lia

Finally made my first visit to Mahogany’s Café a little over a month ago. I ordered catfish, mac and dressing w/gravy. The catfish was fried really well. The consistency of the mac was off. It had enough cheese but was bland tasting and wasn’t creamy at all. The dressing was extremely dry. I asked the server for a replacement side item but ended up requesting more gravy after I received a stern look(the extra gravy didn’t help). I finished the catfish but left those barely eaten side items on the table.

My family and I had a craving for some soul food. We decided to visit this restaurant after reading reviewson this website. We went on a Sunday right when they opened at 1. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of this restaurant. The servers were very nice;even going as far as to turn one of the many televisions to a channel with cartoons for my children. The food was incredible. It was seasoned well and not greasy. So far this is the best soul food that I have tasted served in a restaurant. We plan on returning soon.

After debate on what to eat for dinner, we decided to come to Mahogany’s much to one fellow dinner-goer’s chagrin. We were met with good, although a bit exasperated service. I can understand using some witty/sassy quips on seemingly silly questions after a long day, so that really didn’t phase me. The interior is small and quaint, with a layout that puts everyone pretty close to each other. The only complaint I have, though, is the chairs; they’re pretty stiff and uncomfortable. After hearing about the fantastic catfish, I knew my decision would be pretty easy. I got the catfish and grits – I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to get grits! Which, by the way, were fantastic. Rich and buttery! The catfish was also very good. The breading was light and crispy, though I felt like the salt content was pretty high. Not really a complaint for me, though, I’ve been known to get cut off from margarita salt… We all tried to get different side dishes and try them all. The black eyed peas and rice were good, though lacking something. It felt like it was just a filler at that point, so I saved room for everything else. Yams were sugary and warm and the greens were also good. And who can deny warm cornbread?! I definitely liked this place and hope we go back next time we’re in town. It’s a delicious hidden treasure!

Not only is the food PHENOMENAL, the service, and décor are IMPECCABLE! I came to visit all the way from DC and didn’t realized they closed at 5pm on Sunday. As we were walking away with our heads down, the owner came outside to share when their normal business hours were, AND ever-so-nicely invited us in to order take out as her staff prepared to close down. WHAT? That never happens! And my parents and I were so grateful! The food was cooked to perfection(not greasy or overly seasoned) and packaged pefectly for take-out(all my sides were indvidually packed in foil, to prevent spillage). The owner suggeted I try their catfish, which was truly the best catfish I’ve ever had! Everything was delicious and we had plenty for left overs the next day. I strongly encourage you all to go out and get a true down-home, soul food experience at Mahogany’s Café and Gril!

I went on a sunday and ordered the sunday dinner with mac and cheese and cabbage. Service was slow with only one server. The food was ok at best I’d say go to taste of julias instead its waaaaaayyyyy better. This place is overpriced. The peach cobbler dessert was not home cooked. The peaches were hard. I won’t be back that’s for sure.

Many people recommended that we visit this place. We went on a Saturday night and it was empty. There were three women at the bar and a 5 top. When we got there neither group had any food. After waiting for about an hour(our server checked in with us after 45 minutes saying that our chicken needed to be dropped again), they dropped off chicken and waffles for my one son. They never came back. After another 15 minutes, my other son was in tears(1 hour 15 minutes into our visit) because he only wanted his Mac and cheese. We left and put some cash on the table. It was an extremely disappointing experience.

This restaurant is a great addition to Hamilton and has really filled a void in this part of the East side. The restaurant is an intimate size, so on the weekends you should call ahead for a reservation or be prepared to wait. There’s a sizeable bar though so at least you can sit and enjoy drinks and music. They have karaōke nights on Friday so the place gets really loud. The wait service is not very good. Overwhelmed, forgetful and slow. But the food is delicious. The cat fish meal with two sides is my favorite. The portions are very hearty and it makes great leftovers. The lunch crowd is smaller so there are more seats available.

Great décor! The menu is wonderful — offers something for everyone: Oxtails, Shrimp n Grits, Chicken Wings, Catfish, etc. Prices are good. I went with a friend who is a regular. We agreed that the food was good but seemed like an off-day. I had Sunday Dinner(Smothered Chicken, Cornbread Stuffing, Greens and Mac and Cheese). Unfortunately the greens were the highlight of my meal.(Honestly, maybe that’s b/c I have a lot of wonderful cooks in my family :)) My friend had Salmon Croquettes with the same sides as me. She liked the Croquettes. For dessert we had a really good«margarita» cheesecake. It is better than it might sound. Service was really slow. I halfway expected it to be slow since we went on a Sunday. However, there was only one server for the entire place. Unless you are«slow on Sundays» and expect to stay that way, 1 server is not acceptable for an after-church crowd. I would definitely go again because it has a great reputation and I think every restaurant has its ups and downs.

Food is so good and is homemade deliciousness. I always get chicken and waffles with a honey roll on the side. Only downside is it’s a bit expensive and can be slow. Granted, the last times I went there was around when they opened.

Amazing soul/southern food! Hell, the best of any kind of food I have eaten this year! 8 of us from all over the country oohed and ahhhhhed, sharing and bragging about every bite. We went on to order every desert they had. We were so overwhelmed with love for the food, we were giving hugs to the chefs! Awesome, friendly and timely service, to top it off!

Wow: smooth jazz and scratch southern food! This is what defines Southern Comfort! Ingredients are top quality prepared daily and served HOT and in large portions, plenty for your meal and a snack back at your place. The food is tasty and visually stunning in presentation! The kitchen staff gets it. From the entrees to the sides, the food is southern in taste and quality. Having tried«greens» all over the south, I was thrilled to find some of the best ever right here at home! The Sweet potato muffins started out as a snack gift for patrons to munch on while the dishes were prepared back in the kitchen. Because the food is made to order; WHEN ordered, there is plenty of time for a drink(full bar service available) and a tidbit to tide you over. The problem is that everyone eats-up the muffins! They are served hot with creamy butter and are as irresistible as that other southern tradition, Krispy Kreme doughnuts. If the owners were to decide to add a flashing neon that reads HOTMUFFINSNOW when a new order is ready: it would make perfect sense to the regulars that eat here for lunch and dinner. The place changes over after dark to more of a neighborhood bar and hang-out with Karaōke as the main attraction, so foodies might be advised to make their first time a lunch stop.

I had read several reviews on this place which opened about 2 months ago. Went there tonight — nice décor, looks like a New York City café. We sat for 75 minutes after we ordered — no food. Couple at next table said they had been there over 2 hour waiting for food. When it arrived they seemed pretty disillusioned with what they were served. After waiting 90 minutes with no food, we left. I also gave away two $ 20GROUPONS I had purchased for the restaurant to 2 customer who had just arrive — wished them luck and left. I’ll never go back there despite the praise that was heaped on the place about the great food. UPDATE: In defense of the establishment, the owner contacted me shortly after I wrote this report and invited me back for a second try. I have yet to return but plan on doing so when time permits. I continue to hear good things about the place and can only suggest that YOU be the judge. Go there for yourself and write your own review. Again, I say the owner is concerned with pleasing customers. My opinion is my opinion and should not be taken as the definitive, final judgment of the quality of this establishment. When I return, I will certainly follow up with another review of the restaurant.
