Beds are more expensive than either my husband or I wanted, but we had a good experience otherwise. The salesperson kept an eye on us and popped by to see how we were doing, to get our feedback on the bed we were looking at, and to give us further recommendations based on that, but otherwise gave us space to try the beds over and over until we could decide on one that we liked. We didn’t feel pressured to pick a more expensive mattress or to buy pillows, bed frames, etc., though the salesperson did tell us they offered those when we said we were looking for a frame. We were able to put a delivery hold since we were going to be out of town for a few weeks. It would have been a 4-star experience, but something in the air or in the mattresses really irritated my respiratory system and I kept coughing the entire time I was there. I actually had to step out for a bit.

My husband and I went to Sleepy’s for new bedding after having the same mattress and boxspring for 25 years, now getting neck and backaches it was time. Our adult children had both purchased their bedding from Sleepy’s in Hamden over the past couple of years and were very happy. Kevin the sales rep helped us, he spent a lot of time with us, he was a pleasure to work with. We did purchase a S & F firm mattress and box spring and two new pillows. Kevin got us the price we were able to afford, everything worked at well. The delivery was in a couple of days from the date of purchase. Sleepy’s called our home several time just to confirm the delivery. They actually showed up 15 minutes earlier, two very professional delivery men. We have now slept on our new bed for 4 nights and no more back or neck aches. We are so happy with our purchase at Sleepy’s and highly recommend this store for your next bedding purchase. If you had asked me any time in the past 5 years if I would ever give Sleepy’s a 4 star review, I would have laughed out loud. And I still would NOT recommend many Sleepy’s locations we’ve visited in our seemingly never-ending search for a new mattress. But thanks to Josh, Spencer, and a much larger selection than most Sleepys, this location has earned the 4 stars. The back story is that we bought a mattress(kingsdown pillow top) about 6 years ago from Sleepy’s. The thing barely lasted 3 years, and never will we buy a pillow top again. We’ve been in the market for a new one for way too long, and were always so frustrated with the whole mattress business, whether we were shopping at Sleepy’s or other stores. Completely opaque naming and pricing, sleazy salesmen, and who can tell whether they’ll like a mattress long term after lying on it for 10 minutes in a store? In a word, awful. And to top it off, the warranty on the crappy mattress wasn’t honored. What a crock. Last year, my parents bought a floor model, high end S&F mattress from a Sleepy’s in VA. They have completely fallen in love with their affectionately named«brick»(it is a very firm mattress.) We decided to try it out in our store, and after being turned off by salesmen at every Sleepy’s on the Post Road, headed to Hamden. It was like night and day. We entered the store with our game faces on, ready to beat back the pushy salesmen. Instead, we were greeted by Spencer in a totally normal manner and told that if we had any questions, to let him know. No pressure whatsoever. He walked away, and we were left to browse in peace. We spent time on the main floor and in the clearance section, and ended up selecting the same mattress as my parents. To our delight, they had one in the clearance section. We negotiated the price with Spencer, and got what we thought was a very good deal for a high quality mattress. The mattress was delivered a few days later, and when I got home that night, we realized it was a «luxury plush», when we had wanted a «luxury firm.» The receipt also said«LXP», which we realized meant we’d bought the wrong mattress when we were in the store. It wasn’t a delivery error. The error was partly our fault, and partly the fault of the salesman who had pulled the mattress out from the wall in the clearance section. We called and talked to Josh. We were so upset — assuming with our past experience with Sleepy’s that we were pretty much screwed since we’d accepted the delivery. While it took a couple of conversations, Josh arranged for us to get the mattress we wanted at no additional cost. They didn’t have the one we wanted in the clearance section, so this meant we got a brand new one. We arranged to come by the store to make absolutely sure that we were all talking about the same mattress. When we walked in the next day, Josh was there, knew who we were immediately, apologized profusely for the confusion and inconvenience, and was generally extremely nice and genuine. We’re now extremely happy with our mattress and looking forward to using it for 10+ years. Still, I have to say I’m happy to have the mattress shopping behind me. This was definitely the best experience we’ve ever had, but I have to stick to 4 stars because you still have to negotiate to get a good price. That’s not unique to Sleepy’s, and not the fault of any individual salesman, but it’s still unpleasant to this shopper.

Ever wanted to know where used car salesmen come from? They’ve graduated to the big time after selling mattresses at Sleepys. They advertise that they’ll beat any listed price by 20% UNLESS said price is obtained from the internet, over the phone, or applies to any brand you might want to buy. A good hint might have been that the fine print took up most of the sign. If you do consider buying something, bring a lawyer to check over what you’ve signed. Now, I maybe done have too much book learning to catch most things, but telling me you’re going to knock a $ 100 off a mattress but then add back the $ 90 delivery charge, well, that’s just bush league. And while $ 10 isn’t nothing, it kinda is when compared to a $ 2000 mattress purchase. That said, I would go back, ideally with a sharp stick, that I could then poke in the cage to annoy the sales staff compelled to work there. Although, really, serves them right for leaving Cell Hut at the mall

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is run by con men. Do not shop here or you will be ripped off! They charge at least twice what the 800 number charges. Shop another Sleepy’s, then call the 800 number and they will charge you ½ the price. The men here will tell you anything to get your business, then screw you. The finance company is owned by Sleepy’s, so be very careful.
