Went on a Sunday late morning and expected a big crowd. Luckily there wasn’t one and I was able to sit and enjoy breakfast. First time here so went with a basic sour cream waffles with blueberries and cream. The waffles were done well and tasted good but the cuteness of putting one blueberry in each square of the waffle was something I do at home for my kids and really only comes across as cheap. The dollop of fresh whipped cream was very tasty but again not nearly enough. The food was good enough, the menu diverse(stuffed croissant French toast) and the very pleasant staff and surroundings will have me back to try something else.

I find that Customer Service keeps me from enjoying my experience at Le Petit. While the food is good, they are frequently out of whatever I am ordering. And the counter staff almost always is curt and makes me feel unwelcome.

This is our favorite place in town. The food is fantastic, my daughter and I are there almost every weekend. The croissants are truly amazing(and my family lives in Switzerland, so I know what I’m talking about). Expensive? A bit, but they’re making everything fresh with fresh ingredients. Try the hot cocoa too. There is limited seating but you can sit in the book store if there is no space in the restaurant itself. Seriously, you won’t be disappointed by the croissants!

Small as other patrons have noted– quaint. Regarding service– it seems to depend on when one goes. I’ve had a few different lunch items there– never had the brunch… service always seemed to be fine when I was there. The menu is small– but the food is good. I just need to be in the mood for the atmosphere and food… Great if it isn’t crowded…

I keep overlooking these great spots in New Haven and I really don’t have any excuse. I drive by this spot nearly every day and had not, until now, stopped in for their delicious brunch. The food here is fresh and delicious. The eggs, bagel, and fruit all tasted and looked gourmet, however, at the same time I felt like I was eating homemade meal. The portion sizes are reasonable. They aren’t massive and they aren’t tiny. If you’ve been driving your 16 wheeler all day and need to consume massive quantities of breakfast food I would suggest another establishment. Actually, I would suggest a diner. The major drawback to Le Petit Gourmet is it’s size. There are roughly four small tables inside with four seats to a table. In the summer there are additional tables outside but during the rest of the year seating can be a struggle. Although the tables seat four they are usually occupied by two people or single person. This wouldn’t be a problem in Europe where table sharing is the norm but the strong american sense of individuality often leads to inefficient use of space. The result on Sunday is that it can often be extremely difficult to find a seat. Overall, le petit gourmet is a great breakfast spot with delicious food and kind staff, however, if you have somewhere to be or a large party I would seek other pastures. Definitely worth a visit.

A warm and charming café with a welcoming atmosphere, friendly people and excellent food, perfect for lunch and brunch. I’m particularly fond of the croque monsieur, the omelettes(you pick your own fillings from a large list of options), the crepes(only made on Saturday), and some of their sandwiches, but the waffles, the quiche-of-the-day and other daily specials are also excellent, and I’ve really never had anything there that I wouldn’t gladly get again. Sunday tea is also a treat, very classic with china service and tea sandwiches & pastries. It’s a tiny place, just 4 tables, but on a nice day there are outdoor seats too, and if they’re full they’ll bring your food to a table at Books & Company next door(the 2 stores connect).

When you walk into le petit gourmet you don’t quite know what to do. It’s a very small area with only a few tables. You order at the counter and if there’s no room they seat you in the book store next store. The atmosphere is wonderful. I ordered a customized omelette which was good but not the most amazing omelette I’ve ever had. The woman at the counter was not the friendliest and the food was okay. I’ll go back but mostly for the atmosphere and to hang out in the attached book store.

My favorite part about this place are the details they put into their food and pastries, most importantly the chocolate croissant! It is comparable to the ones I’ve had in Belgium, France, and Germany! The only down side it is limited seating and the library smells, which is right next door. But this place is perfect for a romantic breakfast, closed on Sunday’s

Great local place to get a nice meal at a reasonable price. They have vegetarian options too, which is nice. And they have outdoor seating.

I have never been motivated enough to right review but I was so incensed by the rudeness of the waitress I felt I had too. First, the food was very good. I had one of there gourmet omelets and it was delicious. The problem was the tall woman in front who was rude to myself and several other customers in the 20 minutes I was there. Advice to rude woman: If you don’t like people do something else. This place is definitely losing business because of this you. Not sure how or why she is allowed to continue to work there(perhaps the owner?) but For the second time in my life I did not leave a tip. I am in the area often and definitely would have come again and recommended to friends but will not because of the awful service.

Very quaint and warm atmosphere, quiet. Food is very good, sometimes the wait can be long for a table considering there’s only 4. So recommend grabbing and going if that’s the case.

Quaint. Unfortunately small and often difficult to find a table to eat — most time I have to go sit down in the adjacent book store, but the food is delicious. C’est magnifique. J’aime manger ici pour le petit dejeuner.

I’ve TRIED to eat here twice now. It’s close to where I live and should be a neighborhood favorite, but the rudeness is astonishing. The first time I went, I walked in with a friend, excited to try a new place. We were never greeted and never got a table. Two others groups, presumably regulars, came in while we stood there for over 20 minutes and were seated, but we were never even acknowledged, so we left. About a month later, I decided to try it again. It was full, but I didn’t mind a wait so I was going to stay there until a place was free. Someone came to ask if I wanted to wait, and I said yes, and she replied that she didn’t know how long it would be but that I was welcome to browse the bookstore and she would let me know when a table was available. I went to get a cup of coffee at the excellent coffee bar in the bookstore and came back to see a couple leaving. Too late! She was already in the process of seating someone else. I patiently told her I had gone to the bookstore as instructed, but she replied she thought I’d left(I was gone at most 3 minutes and was one of three people in the store… not hard to spot). So I asked when another table might be available and she said«I don’t know» and walked off. So I left again. Never going back.

I ordered a Canadian omelette. Nothing too special. My friend had an apple cinnamon French Toast. They sell Dry Root beer which was kind of new to me. It tasted like seltzer with a hint of flavor. Tiny little spot that shares a used book store. Eat then go read some books.

Went here for restaurant week with a friend — what a cute place! We thankfully made a reservation as the place is itty bitty(4 indoor tables) and all the others were also reserved. For restaurant week, we had a choice of an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. My appetizer was a yummy, small crab cake. Sauce was excellent on top. My main dish was jerk chicken — chicken itself and the sauce on top wasn’t super exciting, but the mango. stuff(not quite salsa, like a thick mango sauce) on the side mixed with the chicken was delicious. It came with a small pyramid of rice and beans which were also good. For dessert, my friend and I both opted for the lemon trifle — amazing. It tasted like lemon meringue pie in a cup with blueberries. Delicious! Including a cup of coffee and tip, my meal was $ 18. Obviously this was a restaurant week price, but still very good for the amount of food and atmosphere. Definitely a quiet place — not for rowdy kids.

Went with my mom for restaurant week at 1:30 pm. One table being used said she was booked for reservations on the other tables(nobody there). Would not serve restaurant week menu to us on tables outside! Fogettaboutit, not going back again!!!

Excellent spot for breakfast. Simply excellent. This place should be on the top of brunch places in the area and it’s usually a mellow vibe. Anything you get is top notch. Eggs especially are lightly fluffed by what appears to have been angels working in the kitchen. Ricotta lemon pancakes a staple and are also light & fluffy. Outdoor seating a plus. Get your butts on down here! Oh, the gluten free bread is very, very good.

$ 11 for a croissant chicken sandwich? Subbing out hummus for chicken I can understand an add-on charge but $ 4? Three stars because the place is cute, cashier is nice, outdoor seating, but I can’t give more for being ripped off for a chicken croissant with lett, olives, tomato and cucumber on it at $ 11. A good business would make the change.

We live a few buildings down from Le Petit Gourmet and come here for breakfast/brunch on occasion. This cozy little place has a lot going for it. The nice, younger waitress is always there, and she is always welcoming. They have a lot of regulars here, so it has that nice laid back, homey feel to it. They have regular menu items and daily specials. If the meyer lemon, ricotta pancakes were on the regular menu, this would be five stars. They are incredible and you should order them if they’re available. The sour cream Belgium waffles are good, any of their daily sandwiches are tasty, and the ever-changing pancake options hit the spot as well. I love quiche, and while theirs is good, I find that the serving size is quite small and they tend to be firmer than I normally like. Having a pass through to the bookstore is also a nice benefit to visiting here. While you wait for food or afterwards, you can check out the bookstore and visit with their little poodle, Lily.
