I want to go to jail. Yet I could find nothing on-site or online about visiting hours for this historic jail, which was built in 1911 and served law enforcement until 1969. The bronze plaque outside says that the County of San Mateo gave the building to the City of Half Moon Bay in 1985, and the building was restored in 1990 to serve as a historical museum. Inside are only two jail cells, a reminder of a time when things were smaller and life was simpler. Looking through the windows, one can see museum displays presumably teaching about life back then. So when do we the public get to visit? Let’s make this happen, City of Half Moon Bay. This place is a wonderful piece of history and should be available for future generations to enjoy and learn from, not left alone and forgotten.

This place is so cool. Just a skip away from Main Street Half Moon Bay is a historical jail built in 1911 and donated for its restoration to San Mateo County in 1985 — and now looms in the foreground of an acting haunted house and a white steepled church to provide color commentary. Can’t wait to go inside during opening hours — I could see two cells, one with a toilet in the back, and several uniforms from the time through the window!
