I like that they believe in farm to table and dock to dish philosophy. The food is good but expediting meals is always a challenge. Takes a while to get food and they don’t serve your meal to your group at the same time.

Service good with very nice staff. Burger is five stars. Calamari is fresh but really salty. The Hawaiian Bucketwas is dry and I wouldn’t order it again. A bit noisy due to the bar next door, but a casual place to eat with pretty fast serving times.

My friends and I went here this past weekend. We were looking for snack/semi lunch meal due to we had late reservations that evening and needed something a little more than a snack but not so much as a full meal and this place was perfect!!! The menu had a great variety of apps, burgers, sandwiches, and entrees. Pretty small inside but it was fine for a quick bite. We all ordered apps and shared them and they all were delicious especially the calamari my friends kept raving about it saying it was the best they ever tasted. If in the area again and need a place to stop for lunch or a quick bite and want something a little nicer than fast food but not as busy as a restaurant then I will definitely come back here.

Just had the fish and chips, best ever lightly battered fish tender and flakey, enough to share. Tasted super fresh.

Hole in the wall place with great fresh fish specials for lunch. We had the petrale sole and the rock cod plates with rice and veggies. Healthy and very tasty. It’s hidden inside the Public House sports bar.

I tried the cheddar cheese burger and fries at the Silver Star Grill. I was delighted at the level of skill Chef Lauren demonstrated in the preparation of my meal. The burger was cooked to perfection, medium well, exactly the way I asked. Then the beef patty was placed with the grilled onions on a perfectly toasted bun,(a beautiful golden brown), adding a wonderful texture and mouth feel to this delicious meal. Even the lettuce was crisp. The fries too were exquisite. I’m willing to bet they were cut fresh shortly before cooking. Thank you. Chef Lauren! I look forward to my next visit. . Chef George Stratos

The Silver Star burger is THE place for burgers in the area. This is our 3rd trip here and it didn’t disappoint. The burgers we get are medium rare, juicy and delicious. They top it with blackened onions, cheese, and put it on a toasted bun. It comes with shoestring fries, and they are crisped to perfection. I am not a huge fry girl, but these are scrumptious! They’re located right next to the Old Princeton Landing, which is nice. You can have your burger delivered right to you at the bar or at the outside seating in the back and pair it with a brew from the bar. This time we also ordered chicken tenders to share with a side of ranch. NOMNOMNOM!!! Take a break from seafood in the area and treat yourself to a Silver Star Burger. You won’t be disappointed!

Burger was terribly overcooked and dry. The big guy taking orders, wasn’t even remotely nice or friendly to me or any of the other patrons that came into the place.

Gotta bring this place down 1 star… it’s been 3 years since I’ve been to this place but the deals are not the same as they use to be. I don’t expect prices to stay exactly the same but an $ 8−6oz burger with fries and drink seemed like a good price. We even got 2 burgers, a salad, fries and a drink for under $ 20 in 2012. Now, I got 1 burger w/fries and a Cobb salad for a hearty $ 31+. I was not expecting that when I walked in for a 2 person lunch. Don’t get me wrong though, the burgers were still good as well as the salad but the prices went way up probably because they know they can in that location. The burger wasn’t like the last time we went but seemed a tad bigger. It had a charred taste to it as well as some good melted cheese and good flavoring. The burger was really juicy and leaks out of every side so be prepared for that. The large salad was also a good size and came with good ammount of chicken, Bleu cheese. I guess you can’t let the price stop you if you want good food but for«bar» food. it could be a $ 1 – 2 cheaper for more of the items. If you’re spending $ 5+ on a drink at the bar you don’t want to spend $ 10+ just to get that beer food. Don’t use their $ 1 off check in. That doesn’t work anymore. Also, I don’t know if they offer any military discounts since it is called«silver star» grill and they have a picture of a silver star medal on their menu but you can try and ask. No idea what the origin of their restaurant is but there must be some military background.

Silver Star has one of the best burgers in the Bay. If beef doesn’t agree with you, I would recommend the NorCal Mixed Salad, which uses organic, locally grown veggies and is delicious. I also make sure to order the calamari every time I go. It’s made with roasted garlic and comes with a fantastic aioli. Be aware that the aioli is slightly on the spicy side, but still quite mild. Bottom line: if you’re visiting Half Moon Bay, you should stop at Silver Star Burger.

We arrived here around 6pm, and they were sold out of all fish! We decided to stay since my family was hungry. The clam chowder didn’t come in a bread bowl and was really salty, the chicken strips were basically fried batter, the ceviche would have been good if there were more than five pieces of fish in it(mostly lettuce), and the bahn mi was decent but the sauce they used on the meat was salty. And to top it off, the guy at the register was rude.

The Silver Star burger is my holy grail, my most looked forward to treat! I’m in love with it. I always get it medium rare, and it’s so juicy and delicious. They top it with blackened onions and a few different types of cheese which give it an extra yummy factor. The bun is good too, it’s seedless and has a little sheen of oil and is nice and crispy. Now, the fries. Shoestring is my favorite, and they’re seasoned perfectly. I watched them fry my fries just before they were served to me. Crispy and yummy. I also had the calamari, which was AWESOME. Both the sauces they serve with them are yummy, Sriracha aioli and another sauce with garlic, or something. They’re located right next to the Old Princeton Landing, so it can be kind of loud on weekends. Sometimes I’ve been confronted with grumpy staff but there is one lady that is always very sweet and attentive. I’m always unsure of whether or not to tip when it’s a seat yourself, order at the counter type deal, but the one woman who works there who I don’t know the name of definitely deserves one. Fish and chips also have 5 stars in my book. Treat yourself! It’s worth it!

I picked this place specifically because of the Unilocal reviews on their burgers. Maybe we went on a bad day or maybe the majority of the reviews come from people who have been in the bar next door for a while when they decided to eat here, but the food was not great. 3 silver star burgers ordered medium-rare came out well done with burnt grilled onions. The fries were good. 1 Hawaiian bucket came with soggy rice, and NOT Hawaiian-styled pork. It was mediocre at best. Fish tacos were actually decent. Chicken sandwich was ok. It is a nice little place with a lot of people and a nice view. Service was decent(the guy taking orders was cool). But I’m guessing you have to be drunk to think these burgers are great. Might be a good place if they get a new cook.

Food 5 stars. Service 1 star. Price 2 – 3 stars. We ordered at the register from a large man with tons of tattoos that looked like an ex con. He was literally wiping the sweat off his forehead with a towel. We asked for no sauce on my wife’s burger because she is allergic to tomato. We also ordered drinks with no ice. We got drinks with ice, not once but twice. After waiting twenty minutes for our burgers, we found the aforementioned tomato and sauce on the burger. And it was served by the same guy who was wiping the sweat from his brow, with the same dirty hands. Two burgers and two drinks was 28 bucks. Hamburgers were terrific, fries were good. But the fact they tried to kill my wife and screwed up the drinks twice makes me go three stars.

OMG, it really is an amazing burger! The sign« Unilocalers love us!» and the best burger sign pulled me in like a tractor beam. We wandered in here on our way out of Half Moon Bay. I was craving a burger after being a touch hungover from the party at La Nebbia the night before. Whoops! The guys welcomed us as we walked in — so cheery! I had to order the burger and am so glad I did. I opted for the Golden State burger special, which featured avocado, bacon, and cheddar — all my favorite things. It was truly one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Beefy, juicy, cheese amazingness. I also really enjoyed the fries. And the fish tacos… swoon. The fish tacos were equally as good as my burger and I was thankful hubby let me have several bites in exchange for several bites of my burgers. I loved the balance of flavors with the fish and allllll the toppings. YUM. This is a small place and was completely empty when we walked in around Sunday lunch. Don’t let looks fool you — its California casual awesomeness with some of the sweetest staff around. Get in here! The art is also really amazing and worth seeing.

After having terrible fish-n-chips earlier in the day, I was a bit reluctant to order the same for dinner. Thankfully, my sister said they were a good option here. And she was right. The fish was light and creamy, and the batter salty and peppery. Definitely fresh fish well fried. My wife had the fish tacos. Although the pieces of fish were a bit small for he tortillas, they were also tasty along with the garnish. Got a beer from the bar next door(there is a swinging door connecting the two on the inside) and was all set. Mind you that this is Half Moon Bay, so fish and chips are $ 16, but the quality of the fish made the price somewhat palatable.

Well, I was in half moon bay today and did not feel like spending 30 bucks a person for something to eat. So I Unilocaled«tacos» and this place popped up and was literally the next turn over on the road. So… I went. You order at the counter. The service was ambivalent about whether or not I actually order. But… I was there and the Unilocal reviews were solid. I ordered the tacos and was told they only had the petrale sole. I said great and went to take a seat. The tacos came up and the portion was very good for my hungry self. 3 big tacos. From the look, I thought… those have a lot of «stuff» on them. And I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to taste the fish. But… OMG. First bite and I was in heaven. Freshest and yummiest fish tacos I’ve had since I was in Hawaii. SO good. There are tacos where all the parts are great, but somehow the taco doesn’t come together as a whole. These did not have that problem. Honestly I can’t wait to bring my husband here. My only criticisms are that the service was, like I said, ambivalent. I never got the feeling they wanted my business. And the corn tortillas were a little leathery and thick. The first taco I ate as it came, with both tortillas. But the second and third, I went down to one tortilla each and that was better but still not perfect. I would have preferred two tortillas but ones that were either crisped up on the grille or thinner. Can’t wait to come back for the tacos though.

I go here for the burgers first and foremost, so let’s zero in on that, which is hard to do at this burger shack by the sea that has so much going for it besides the food. The burgers(I mean the Silver Star Burgers) are classic hand made BBQ style burgers with hand squashed patties and all kinds of tasty spice stuff in them. They’re not sloppy, just the right size and come with fries. If I want a burger on the coast, I go here. They’re not foofoo gourmet stuff or make-your-own frankenburger. Just honest working class damn good burgers served up by tattooed coastside locals who work hard and enjoy what they do. The beer… oh, the beer… is/was great and there is very little in life as good as a fresh, drippy, as ice cold bubbly tall IPA within stones throw away from the crashing monster waves of Mavericks and the Pacific ocean standing next to a steamy burger while you people watch from an outside bar stool on a warm June afternoon after a top down ride up Hwy 1. But today we enjoyed some ice cold lemonades and got to chat with the owner about expansion and transformation plans as he made some measurements all up and down the front façade. Sounds like the place is going to get some improvements soon and become less a half bar half eatery and one whole eatery bar destination. Hopefully all the small burger shack beach town atmosphere of the joint will stick to the shore and not be washed away by the waves of progress…

I expected better. The hamburgers were alright, not the best, not even close. All the food we ordered was on the small side. The fries were not crispy as some reviews have described. They were sort of dark in color, limp and like if they were fried in dirty oil or something. My son ordered chicken strips. They were very dark brown and they looked like they were fried a little too long, or possibly in old oil? Whatever happened, it did it look presentable and my son didn’t like them, he didn’t even like the fries(what kid doesn’t like fries) The atmosphere is nice and the employees are friendly. The place is connected to a bar by a door and every once and a while you can smell smoke from the bar, I didn’t really like that, especially with kids. To sum it up, we didn’t care for the place and we were still hungry after spending $ 40. To finish our meal we went over to Barbara’s to get some appetizers to fill us up.

Check-in offer: $ 1.00 off their signature burger It’s right next door to the Old Princeton Landing bar and you can order your food here and grab a brewski and table next door. Or, you can grab some seats outside while you wait for your food. It’s a cool and laid-back spot with good, solid food. You can also bring your four-legged friend and have them hang-out outside. Their Silver Star Burger is pretty good. It’s better than the average restaurant burger with nice flavor(you can taste the meat) and just the right amount of juiciness. It comes with a side of fries that are crispy, stringy and crunchy. Their calamari is a bit underwhelming and it comes served as sticks instead of the typical rings. They also have Pulled Pork Sammich, Fish Taco, Shrimp Taco, Salad, Grilled Cheese Sammich, and other bar food. Everything is pretty decent and ambiance is unpretentious. I also noticed it’s mostly frequented by locals and it’s got a good and chill vibe going. Definitely a nice place to grab a good burger and chill place to hang out. Bring the dogs on a nice, sunny day. It’s a solid 3 ½ stars for me.
