This is my favorite destination to fly to in the Bay Area. Stunning scenery, easy parking, and access to great restaurants. I’d visit more often if it weren’t fogged in half the time(but I doubt the management can do much about that…)

Fantastic little airport to land in. The flight is great. Its fun to cruise over the Golden Gate bridge, follow the California coastline south to this little airport and stop there for some great seafood. A nice coffee shop up the street too if you need caffeine. Approach into this field is a lot of fun whether you are coming in from the south or the north. Not much in terms of traffic and a great P-51 on the field. Park all the way south for the walking path to the little city area. Dont forget to jot down the re-entry code so you can get back to your bird. A great place for a date or a business meeting! Come fly with me, lets fly, lets fly away!!!

Home of one of the great California happenings, «Dream Machines» last week in April. The airport is closed to normal flights for this outstanding event.

Without a doubt my favorite bay area airport, great food within walking distance, and one of the few places you can actually practice some instrument approaches down to near minimums, regardless of the time of year.

If you own a plane(or rent one) this is a great place to fly for the day(or weekend.) The HMB airport runway is really long; you can technically land a 747 here. Once you land, it’s a simple five minute walk to great restaurants and a charming harbor. It’s free to keep your plane here for the day, and $ 10 to park your small plane overnight($ 20 for large planes.) Half Moon Bay is an uncontrolled airport, which means there is no tower. Pilots use a common frequency to communicate where they are in the pattern(landing, taking off, etc.) It’s often fogged in – so keep an eye on weather. But Half Moon Bay is the perfect little place to stop for lunch or a romantic weekend. Destinations like this are why pilots get their licenses in the first place. Or maybe it’s the incredible and vast ocean views and feeling like a bird flying over it all?
