Big fan of this place. Price matched with Redbox and they even get brand new movies not at Redbox or Netflix. Also tons of older movies. Recommended!

I come from the time when video stores had a much bigger part of the movie and TV show market, so when we moved to HMB less than a year ago, this place felt like kind of a renaissance. California Video has a great selection of classics and new films categorized by genre and a respectable selection of documentaries.
After using them for a few months, my wife was starting to get told one thing about return days and getting billed for another from owners/​employees. After courteously explaining that she had returned videos within the time allotted, she was told «You must not have heard my colleague explain it correctly; you owe us $ 1». This has happened to her more than once.
In all, California Video has the products, but their service is inconsistent and they don’t seem to understand the importance of the complete customer experience — especially around customers speaking and acting in good faith and not having that good faith returned.

I’m a big fan of this place! The staff is great and they keep a lot of good movies on deck. I’ve missed movie stores with this Netflix era but this place does it right. I’ll keep coming as long as they stay stocked.

Its small, local… But I love this place!!! You find great movies, some old gems… And great entertainment that Netflix cant always provide. The staff is pretty diligent about getting movies they don’t have that you want if you mention it!

Staff is super helpful, so knowledgable i would think these people work in a library or something! I feel like nothing gets past them when you ask them questions, true professionals. They’re always Super creative with signs and little things around the store. It always gets me to chuckle! Another great thing about the store is that they have SUPER deals on all the DVD’s and Blu Ray’s (or B/R’s) and they have a SUUUPER DUUUPER selection! The place itself is in party central next to a pizza café, so you can get sweet delicious pizza and then get a SUUUPER DUUUPER KAPOOPER movie!
p. s. that adam guy isnt a bad looker either. good stuff all around!

This is no blockbuster, but it is is a local business that deserves support. They keep up on the latest movies and do get in a lot of copies of the new releases. Employees are always friendly and willing to help. The store really could use a facelift and lose the collection of VHS movies. We forgo Netflicks and the RedBox and support this local shop.
