Surf With The Pros

WE LOVED THIS!!! My wife and I had a surf lesson with Joel Centeio. He is absolutely an ambassador of Aloha. He was patient, relaxed, and didn’t push you past what you thought you could handle. This is how you want to learn to surf. I was able to get up on my second wave and a few more after that, but decided to head in early because of my first fall. (I hit the water a bit hard, and jarred my head a little.) Joel stayed out with my wife the rest of the lesson. By the time they were done, she’d caught three waves, completely standing up. Not bad for a girl who’s never been on a board til today.
We highly recommend these guys. We had a great time, and can’t wait to get back out.

I had a Living Social voucher for a group lesson with SWTP. On the day of my lesson the other people in the class canceled, so it was just me with Bam as my instructor. I had a little trouble finding him because I was looking for a group of people but with a quick call to the number on the voucher we found each other.
He took me up the road from the bridge by Haleiwa Beach Park and gave me a short lesson on the sand. I’d had a couple of lessons years ago and I remembered the basics, but his technique was different and I got up on my very first try and I caught a lot of nice long rides. This was in contrast to the other lessons I had where I left frustrated and disappointed.
The spot we went to was perfect for a beginner with small, slow-​moving swells that were easy to catch. Based on what Bam told me about conditions on the North Shore I would recommend the morning session over the afternoon session if it fits your schedule.
Bam was great company in the water. It was a beautiful, sunny day and we had a turtle swimming near us the whole time. I can’t even think of a better way to spend a morning in Hawaii.

Moody had both my wife and I up on our second wave (ok, I was up on my 3^rd). Quick instruction on the beach then hit the water for some fun. The guys were great, and I actually learned a lot and was able to catch a wave without thier help by the end of the lesson. Highly recommend these guys. Great time.

We bought a Living Social deal to be able to go surfing on my fiancé’s first trip to Hawaii (my second). I’d been surfing before, and remembered a couple things — especially the safety things they told me. I was younger then (16) and my class had a lot of younger kids — so they really stressed that stuff.
This time around it was four adults — and they pretty much said, lay down, jump up, let’s go! We had Sean and Zen, and they were very easy to get along with and gave each person tips on what to do.
UN-​fortunately, the fiancé had an accident and we had to go to the hospital. It may have been a complete freak accident (everyone tells me it was), but it makes me wish there had been a little more focus on safety — and what to do if you’re fallin — in the beginning.
Sean was great and led the way to the hospital so I didn’t have to juggle a head wound and trying to figure out directions. He was visibly concerned and gave us his number if we make it back to the island to finish our lesson.
In case you’re wondering — he’s fine. It was some staplees along the scalp, but he was all better after a couple hours in the hospital. He asked for some pain killers and we were off! He didn’t need any the rest of the week. As far as surfing injuries go — really strange and not that bad.

Took son for a lesson for his 14^th birthday. Had pro surfer Sean Moody for his instructor. He was great! My son was standing before it was over. Highly recommend this company.

I had a group lesson with Joel and Zen. They made it really easy to learn and tailored it to each person’s abilities. They were super friendly and lots of fun. After the lesson, Zen tells me that Joel Centeio is one of the top pros in Hawaii and highlights a bunch of his big wins. It was awesome.
