Great sushi. We especially loved the ahi poke and the dakine roll. All the sushi was fresh, and presentation was great, Wayne and his wife were very welcoming. Very small restaurant. You’ll be glad you go off the beaten path for this one…

UPDATE: We happened to be in Las Vegas this weekend so we stopped by Sun City Sushi and had lunch with Wayne’s son Jesse. Wayne, I delivered that hug for you! Can’t wait to head back to Maui and see you and Heidi soon. All the best! Paul & Vic

So much to love about Wayne’s Sushi!!! My personal favorite roll is the Hawaii’s Goes Fishing. If you like it hot, try the Death Roll. Truly you can’t go wrong. Wayne, Heidi and crew are fantastic. Love it.

This sushi is delicious! There in February 2014 on vacation, my boyfriend and I have gotten picky about our sushi, so when we saw that this had the best reviews on the island, we took the trip to Haiku(only about 15 minutes from our rented house in Sprecklesville). Wayne and Heidi were great and we got it for take out(order ahead to not have to wait as some of the other reviews mention that it takes him awhile to prepare it since he’s the only chef). Everything we got was excellent, but we highly recommend the somewhat spicy Hawaii goes fishing, the Mango a go go, and the crispy critter. So if you’re craving sushi while on Maui, it’s definitely off the beaten path and well-worth getting!

Went here yesterday with my hub and really enjoyed it. It was a nice calm atmosphere. Reminded me of certain parts of the bay area(cali) great prices good food warm staff. No complaints besides that it was a tad hard to find but I love that its off the beaten path. Fast service was a plus. I ordered the mango a go go hand roll and it was yummy. Hub ordered the xxx spicy roll and yes yes yes yes yes it was fire. Good fire I should say. He loved it. I would come again. I like getting good food good service and since Hawaii is expensive(to me anyway) I love the idea of decent priced yummies. Try it out if your near by.

Hey, lets go for sushi” …When you walk into Wayne’s, plan on going an an adventure with your taste buds… the freshest sushi on the planet… and an infusion of sauces that will make you say HeidI Ho– that’s a sushi roll named after Waynes wife and it is absolutely divine… bug Wayne enough and he will sing some Karaōke– but soon you will want Heidi to take over… BYOB there is a corkage fee but its under 3 bucks I think…

First of all, the sushi here is great. Very fresh. I liked it more than Sensei, which is another highly rated sushi restaurant on west maui. For the sushi alone, I would give it 4 stars. But this place is more of a ‘BYOB’ hang out and drink with pals for hours until the food comes out kinda place. The waitress was quick to get our water, drinks, and miso soup to us… but that was it. The night was fairly packed, and there was only 1 sushi chef(I’m guessing Wayne) and 1 waitress. We had a looong day exploring Maui and was tired, hungry, and sticky from the humidity; we just wanted to grab a quick bite. If this is you, do not come here. We waited nearly 1 hour before I asked the waitress to change our order to-go, and another ½ hour before I asked her how long my sushi would take. Another 15minutes later, the waitress gives us a complimentary octopus(?) salad and our to-go order. If I had not asked her, it probably would’ve taken another hour for our food to be served(there was a big group with no food next to us). It took a total of 1.5−2 hours for us to finally get our food. If I had known it would take that long, I would’ve left a lot sooner. So, if you have time to kill and want good sushi, I would recommend this place. Just remember to bring your own booze, cuz it might take a while.

Wayne has a great personality, and we go there for the homey cozy feeling and especially to support him since the opening of the other sushi restaurant next door, the place is also BYOB, so we get to bring something to share, which is a great plus. We usually chit chat with Wayne as he’s making the sushi behind the bar and always leave happy to see him . However our last visit was just plain terrible, the only waitress in the restaurant I think Heidi is her name, maybe his wife too? not sure… was soo bad that my friend and I wanted to leave twice before we completed the meal . She clearly had her priorities wrong, and we could feel the intense dislike she was experiencing as she waited on everyone, yes she faked smiles here and there and called people«kids«and«loves«…but her service sucked ! which I really don’t understand if it’s your business and you want people to keep coming back . We normally don’t mind the wait for our sushi we understand it takes a little while as Wayne does his best to talk to his customers at the bar and make Sushi, but it’s usually alleviated by us drinking some miso soup or munching on some edamame, we waited 20 minutes to get the soup and another 15 just to get the edamame and some chopsticks, she had 5 tables of 2 people seating in them and seemed annoyed by everything that people requested that we were afraid to ask for anything else .We left with intentions of not going back, which is too bad because we like Wayne.

This is the some of the best sushi I have ever had! Tucked away in a hidden corner on the North Shore. We count ourselves very lucky that Wayne’s is in the neighborhood! Relaxed Maui style atmosphere and good prices as well. Bring your own wine or beer works very well too.

So we came to eat breakfast in the morning and saw that this was a sushi bar with steller reviews at night. We came back that night and we were quickly sat at the sushi bar. We were so excited to try this sushi beecause of the reviews. Well…2HRSAND45MINUTES our first roll came out. You read that right. It was not that busy and we werent that picky on time, but come the f on. The roll was good but not extraordinary. What was extrodinary and got Wayne’s Sushi those two little stars up there was the butter fish. I might come her after I have ate somewhere else so that I wasnt starving for the 4 hours it took to have dinner her, just to order the butter fish. It was breathtaking. Oh I forgot to add, the lady that served us was nice but she forgot 2 of the things we ordered and she still tried to charge up. This place was alitlle pricey but not bad.

Wayne amazes me! This is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had and it’s in a little teeny spot in a very quiet part of Maui. Wayne and his son have served their amazing sushi in other parts of the US(Vegas, etc) but now Maui is so lucky to have them. Every part of our meal was delicious — from the miso soup to the tea to the rolls. We also had so much fun with Wayne and his son as well as the other staff. We took photos behind the sushi bar, silly pics at our table, and photos of the food. One of the really funny dishes we ordered was called the«orgasm» something or other and other rolls were named after celebrities — funny names describing great food! I can’t wait to go back to Wayne’s Sushi — too far it’s so far away…

F**cking brilliant. Wayne and his son, Jesse, have the market on sushi with this little family business. And yes, you will meet one of the two during your dining experience. All the rolls are made to order, with love, and fresh everything. The server was running late so Jesse personally took care of us. We sat outside where there is wonderful relaxed atmosphere. It’s BYOB, which is always a plus, and they even warmed up our sake for us! Reasonably priced and just plain cute(loved all the clever names for the rolls), please give this place a try when you’re upcountry.

I’ve driven all over the island in search of awesome sushi. Thing with sushi is not like other food. Sushi is either great, or horrible. There’s no happy medium. Well, my quest has ended. And I’m elated to say that an awesome sushi bar does exist on an island surrounded by… Fish. Granted, the«atmosphere» is not what you would expect. But those that insult and knock the place should go back to corporate America for their industrial fish. This place is charming, matching Wayne and Heidi’s personality. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in and offered a seat. I did notice that some of the chairs had been removed from assigned tables but i think that’s because other parties moved them to other tables to accommodate their parties. This is definitely a local favorite and the regulars take pride in their pearl. There were adorable origami birds hanging from the ceiling. And it was as quaint as the little town it is located in. Heidi came over and was personable and was genuinely pleased we were there. I was undecided on what to order and she asked me what i like ie «to shashimi or not to shashimi». After getting answers, she recommended a number of plates and rolls. She took our«brought in» bottles that we weren’t going to drink just yet and put them in her fridge to keep cold and promptly brought out an ice bucket to put our Nigori sake in. We chose the escala(sp) and the«say what?» And they were nothing short of divine. What’s the worst that can happen? You try this place and are sorely disappointed? In which case you can mosey in town to kenji and get sick eating sushi that has been rotating on a conveyor belt more times than the staff can count. I’m going back tomorrow. I just felt that going to Wayne’s(or Heidi’s, depending who you talk to), i was going to a friend’s house to chill in a cozy house with good friends and delicious food.

Was recommended by a local. Glad I brought my own beer. The sushi was awesome. Took a while, so be patient. We had a bunch of rolls. The wayne bo roll, the say what, crispy critter, garlic hand roll– was my favorite. Not sure if I got the names 100% accurate– working off memory. Also had the miso soup– great. The chilled asparagus– great. Loved the atmosphere– super friendly local and local. Best sushi I’ve had so far– coming from San Diego.

I rarely give out a five star review and Wayne’s is most deserving in my book. The very best sushi I have ever had… inventive, super-fresh, to-die-for! A father and son effort, hidden on the North Shore in a converted home that is also known as North Shore Café during daylight hours. This is a place for the locals… unpretentious, six-packs on every table, karaōke being sung by the executives, and everyone smiling at one another like ohana. The food is really outstanding and humorous too! Hamachi Jalepeno, Sashimi Albacore, Wayne bo roll, and Hawaii Goes Fishing roll were seriously amazing. Jesse, Wayne’s son offered us some baked Hamachi sushi with a(was it?) ponzu sauce… I don’t think we dipped into our wasabi the entire evening… also got comped oyster shooters that were an ‘error’ on another table(fools for not taking it!)… they gave us slices of the hamachi belly, which was probably the best fish I have ever tasted in my life. They clearly take pride and joy in their cookery(or un-cookery, as may be the case.) What a wonderful wonderful evening and meal… so much so that we are still talking about it, spreading the word, and planning on opening a second retirement account.

If I could, I’d FedEx some Wayne’s sushi to me in California. I could think of nothing else tonight, and my dinner was not close to comparison. Wayne knows his stuff! This very random, obscure location is half the awesomeness of this place. You are not quite sure what you’re getting when you are walking up, and walking in for that matter. But damn, this place just tugs at my heart strings. It’s not super fancy, so don’t come wearing your finest. Come feeling relaxed with time on your hands, and ready for some of the best sushi you’ll ever have. Make sure you BYOB since they don’t have your liquor license. Just pop over to the market across the street and bring in as much as you like. I liked this better than buying drinks there! We packed a cooler before hand and focused our taste buds on the food. The prices aren’t all that bad either! For the size of the rolls and the fullness of my stomach, I approved of both completely. My favorite, which I can’t remember the name of, was towards the top of the menu. It’s topped with an unmentionable«cream», and has salmon. Whatever that was, I should have ordered more. Get that, and get a couple of orders. I can’t wait to visit Wayne’s again!
