Wilhelm Winery… is awesome. First of all, it’s a pretty decent drive from the Burgh– about an hour and a half. It’s basically a straight shot, but a long drive none the less. The building is adorable. It’s an old barn and the signage is minimal outside. They have a beautiful patio where they often host events. Their biggest ones being for Labor day and Memorial day each year. Inside, they have gift baskets, tons of wine accessories, some mixes for dips, etc… but most importantly, their wine. They have a decent selection of wines, ranging from dry to very sweet. Since I am not a fan of dry wines, I never really sampled any. The driest wine I tried was their Riesling, which I found to be super delicious. Their Fredonia is incredible– my favorite red wine. The Deer Creek White is a MUST try– it’s like drinking adult grape juice. Pink Catawba is also a favorite, as well as their Cranberry Splash. The Cranberry is very tart– but I found that it mixes very well with ginger ale or sprite and is awesome to drink for the holidays. Their fruity wines are also delicious– blueberry, peach and blackberry were all very good. They also sell some of their wines in boxes. The upstairs is decorated in a «homey» manner, making it even more cozy and cute than it already is. On Sundays they have a special on their glass of red wine– $ 3 a glass all day. They also have happy hour each day, featuring a different wine each day. I had been to Wilhelm many times before with my family. The most recent time, the woman working was extremely patient while I sampled multiple wines and gave us some suggestions as well. The one thing I did notice is that they chill their wines quite a bit– making the wine much colder than it would be in a typical refrigerator. The ice cold wine can have an effect on your taste buds(as I have learned through many years of serving alcohol). If the wine doesn’t taste the same as it did at the winery, I would recommend to chill it more than an hour or two in the fridge. Because the drive is kind of lengthy to only purchase wine, I would recommend purchasing online or waiting until an event and spend your whole day there! OR you could do what I have been doing for many years– visit Vacationland campground right down the road, and then visit =].

Phenomenal Wine Festival this and every year! Kudos to all who make this event such a successful one! From the picnic fare, volunteers, bands, wine tastings, and wealth of fine wine offerings — this is a Memorial Weekend destination for many — and well worth the visit! When visiting the winery on the off season we have enjoyed the quietness of the patio while sipping some Wilhelm Red or Deer Creek White. The wines are all very drinkable, easy sipping table wines. Their are 100% fruit dessert wines offered as well such as Blueberry, Peach and Apple. The inside of the Winery also contains a cooler with an assortment of local artisan cheese for sale. The gift shop sells any and all things wine related. We are delighted by the maturing overall tastes of Wilhelm Wines, some still have a heavier tanin note than others that can skew the taste a bit. However, overall drinkability and development of flavors has improved. They have their sweet selections down, but need to cultivate their drier ones on the spectrum to make a really good winery fantastic for all wine enthusiasts and connessieurs coming through their doors!

Easily the best wine I have ever tasted. I was first introduced to Wilhelm last summer when a friend brought a bottle of their fredonia to a BYOB restaurant we ate at. I was amazed by how good it was. Nice and sweet and so easy to take down. Because of how much we loved the wine, we decided to visit the winery around Christmas. It was a pleasant experience. I ended up trying many different flavors and found some new favorites(cranberry). I was disappointed though because they were all out of the fredonia which was one of the big reasons we came from Pittsburgh. They were also out of blueberry and peach. The place itself is cozy and they have a lot of free samples of foods and sauces to try. The staff was decent, but maybe could have been a bit friendlier. Maybe because we were younger they weren’t as nice. I don’t know? In the future, I will order from their website rather than making the trip unless I’m already going into the area for whatever reason.

A really nice place to stop, sip some wine, do a tasteing, sit on the big deck in a country setting, it was minutes from the lake, decent roads, and the people are really nice. The barn was totally re-done, and it was filled with diffrent vintages, red, whites, sweet whites, blushes, a real wine lovers dream. The shop also had a bunch of things to buy, accessories, cook books, clothing with wine related humor, you got to see this place, its fantastic.

This is a great local winery. Whenever I am in the area, I usually pick up a bottle or two for my family or a good friend. I’m not too familiar with other local wineries, but this is a great little one tucked way in Western PA. You should certainly check it out.
