Mattar’s Restaurant & Catering

Ive been frequenting Mattar’s 8 – 10 times a year for the past several years… if there is a cause for celebration with friends or family, this is one of my go-​to choices… especially since I live in Panther Valley — it’s the perfect place!
Food is always great, with wonderful seasonal specials. Servers are always accommodating and pleasant. Mattar’s kettle one Dirty Martinis are my favorite. The wine and beer list has something for everyone on it, on top of seasonal cocktails that are always delicious.
Mattar himself can always be seen wandering his restaurant, mingling with customers, and keeping things in line. All around, one of the best and most consistent restaurants in the area.

Finally tried this local Bistro after passing it every day and thinking, «Hey, we should try it!» Now I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to give it a try, because it was fantastic. We made a reservation, although on the night we went it was probably not necessary. When we entered, we were immediately greeted by the hostess who sat us quickly. Our server came over right away, gave us information on the specials and brought us drinks back. The staff was extremely attentive, and while they do hang out in the dining room, I didn’t feel rushed at all, but it was great, as soon as something should be picked up or refilled, someone was there to make it happen.
The food was great. We tried the sushi, which was fresh and fantastic, and settled in for some corn beef and cabbage (it was the day after St. Patty’s day). The portions were huge, so unfortunately, we did not try desert… maybe next time!

Absolutely love this place, especially in the warm weather with the outdoor seating! My boyfriend and I have came here with another couple and also came for valentines day on our own. Every time we have an awesome experience. I have never been disappointed! I especially love how they have a tapas menu so we usually order a bunch of stuff to share and a few rounds of drinks. Love it!

Salmon was delicious. My friend had the steak that looked just as good. Server was very nice. We will be back!

Wonderful attentive staff. The bar is the best. Great burgers. Everything on menu is well prepared and to your liking. This is our go to place. Older crowd so nice for a night out with the significant other.

If 6 stars was an option, Mattar’s would get it. I love the food here so much, they catered my sons wedding (110 people). This is absolutely the best Restaraunt in NJ. If you are anywhere near exit 19 on Route 80 or in the Allamuchy area, make sure you are a bit hungry and plan to stop here. You will not regret taking the time to enjoy the service and food.

My wife and I came for lunch on a long drive home from upstate. Excellent spot minutes off I 80. Super clean, nice outdoor seating area. Food was very good, gourmet quality. Wait staff was attentive and knew the menu well.

Incredible lobster ravioli and delicious filet. The prices are a little high but worth every bite! The lobster tails are amazing as well! Super friendly and knowledgable staff with excellent and prompt service!

Are you looking for a great meal? Do you fancy a tasty burger, filet minion, or are you looking for a great sea food dish? If you answered yes to any of the above thin Mattar’s Bistro is the place for you.
Besides their great menu, they’ve got a very good bar, a wonderfully personable staff, and an awesome atmosphere. Alfresco dining on the balcony, quiet dining in the main dining room, and a bar dining experience if that’s your pleasure.
Let’s not forget that Mattar himself makes sure to stop by and say hello to everyone & makes sure every person who dines with him feels like family.

I’m very picky when it comes to eating out but absolutely love Mattars food. Definitely recommend.

My friend invited me to go out to eat with his grandfather here four years ago because he knew I loved crab cakes. Well when I got their I ordered my crab cake with high expectations and to say that they were met was an understatement. It was the best crab cake I have ever had. So much crab and not a lot of breading, it was just perfect.
When I attended college in Hackettstown I would always reward myself at the end of the year with a Mattar’s crab cake. Not expensive at all considering the size and taste.
I had gone about 6 months without seeing my girlfriend at the time and wanted to spoil her with a nice fancy meal and new Mattar’s was the place to take her. We had a nice candle lit dinner outside, perfect night for a nice dinner. She ordered mediterranean tapas which was hummus, baba ganoush, warm pita and olives. This was a very good appetizer. For her main corse she ordered the arugula salad and she loved the golden raisin vinaigrette.
If you wanna go on a nice date or have a special occasion like an anniversary I definitely recommend Mattar’s Bistro.

My wife and I went there on a Saturday night around 5:30 pm. There were plenty of tables so we requested to sit outside. Having the seats outside was great for this time of year. Although it overlooked route 517 which is a busier road than most, it didn’t take away the fact that we were in Allamuchy, a picturesque town. Immediately we got served bread, water and menus then followed. Our server introduced himself and presented us the specials. I ordered the monkfish with a plum tomato risotto. My wife ordered the shrimp and scallops scampi with risotto. We ordered 2 appetizers. The calamari was so light and golden. Not heavily battered and oil drenched. And the bruschetta was fantastic. We did not think we were going to eat both appetizers completely and we would probably bring whatever home. But after talking and talking and not paying complete attention to how much we were eating, we eventually realized that we almost finished both appetizers. They were delicious. Our server then said he will give us some time before our entrees come out from the appetizers that we devoured. Food came out 12 to 15 minutes later hot and the seafood tasted fresh. No seafood smell or taste whatsoever. The risotto was creamy, great consistency and cheesy. After the plates were taken we were offered dessert and he recommended something light since our meals were sort of heavy. Even though we declined dessert he stated for us to stay as long as we want and we appreciated that no rush service. We came a few years ago when Mattars became a bistro and we remembered it being exceptional. Our recent visit was even better and hit all our marks for a good dining experience.

Food is always consistently good! The atmosphere is Great and the outdoor seating is awesome on a nice evening!

WATCH THE PRICES ON YOUR BILL.
We’ve been here many times — usually in the summer for the outdoor terrace and have enjoyed it — that’s why we were back again on Saturday evening with two friends. However this meal left a bad taste in our mouths…
After 4 appetizers, 4 mains, 3 desserts and 2 bottles of wine, we asked for the check. The bill was presented and we noticed that the wine was 25% more on our bill than stated on the Wine List (which is not inexpensive to start with).
We questioned the price and the waiter went to check with «the boss». He quickly returned with the announcement that our bill was correct and that Mattar just hadn’t changed the prices on the menu yet!
Well, it went down hill from there. They didn’t adjust our bill and we’ll not return.

First time I have been here in about 7 years and I don’t know why! Everything was fantastic from the moment we walked in the door. Decided to sit in the bar area for the great happy hour specials. Ordered 3 courses and numerous drinks and everything was great. The service was friendly, but not overwhelming. Food came out at just the right pace. I had a gift certificate that expired in July and they took it without any issues. I will be back soon, for sure!

my favorite local spot. It could be a blizzard and they will be open! They have a generator too so when hurricane Sandy blew out our power for a week, we went to Mattars! Everything on the menu is great! My favs are the spicy tuna blt roll and the skirt steak salad. Hungry for dessert? Order the chocolate cake. Its huge! Check out their brunches for holidays like Easter, Mothers day. Reasonable for all the food you get at the brunch. Excellent wines and beers. When its warmer outside, they have outdoor seating!

This seemed to be the best option for a late night dinner when I was starving and in Hackettstown. I don’t know the area well and I didn’t find many restaurants open late in the area. Came here with the bf and as we pulled up, I thought oh no, this restaurant looks really nice (we were in our workout clothes). Walked in and the restaurant was pretty dead, probably because it was a weekday. Hostess finally came and we were seated.
The service was pretty good and the ambiance was great. However, the food was just mediocre. We ordered the Bistro Burger and the Hanger Steak Grilled Quesadilla. The burger was definitely different from your average burger because it had lots of toppings — cheese, bacon, salad, and crispy potatoes but it the meat in it was just average. There was nothing mind blowing and memorable about it that would make me want to come back and order it again. The fries that came with the burger were not crisp at all — actually, most of the fries were pretty soft and soggy. The Hanger Steak Grilled Quesadilla wasn’t bad but it for $ 4 more than the chicken option, we expected more meat and flavor from the meat. Probably should of just went with chicken, oh well.
Overall not too impressed with the food but everything else was good. I probably would come back if someone wanted to but I would try out different items off the menu next time.

The 5 stars was for the area. We are huge fans. The food is great. The service is great The atmosphere is great. And the prices are very very good. This is now our second favorite restaurant in the area besides the Tewks Inn. We could eat here once per week.
I always get the crab cake app. So should you. it’s fantastic. The best way to describe it is a crab cake tower coated with shrimp. Order it. You will love it.
The oysters are always fresh. Usually someone gets them.
I’ve had the steak, the fish, and pasta dishes — everything is tasty and reasonably priced. My son ordered the ribs and he wasn’t a fan but other than that we haven’t been disappointed.
If you have room for dessert — get the apple crisp. It’s delicious.
