Drove 45 minutes to get to this place for our anniversary. We get there, and wouldn’t you know, they«LOST» our reservation. But they stated they’d «try to work us in». We did have proof of our reservation tho, because it was emailed to us, so we showed them the email. Didn’t help any though. So we stood around and stood around and stood around, while being totally ignored. The hostess, and they guy(who I THINK was the owner), seemed completely lost and confused. All the while, we are staring at 10 empty tables here and there throughout the room. What the heck? So, after 30 minutes they’d never bothered««to work us in», despite all the empty tables. Likewise, it was like we were invisible to them. So I told my wife«to h*ll with this place, let’s leave». So we did. I’m not sure what the draw is about this place anyway. Yeah, it’s in an old building. Wow. But the restaraunt is wide open and almost looks like a cafeteria. Even with the promise of immediate seating, I wouldn’t go back. Besides, these jackals put a HUGE kink in our anniversary evening. Nothing really good to say about this place…

Decent wine list. Seemed a bit pricey for the names, markups were aggressive but had a few good names. Steaks were Dallas prices, but honestly pretty good. Service was nice. Probably best choice in Guthrie.

Gages Steak House is as good as it gets in Guthrie. The steaks are always cooked perfectly. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. The lighting is great and the noise level is low. This is a great place to take your date or anyone visiting. Guthrie does have a very nice place to go for upscale food.

Good food. Great, prompt service. Reasonable pricing. Every reason to return. Our party of four were attending an event immediately following dinner. Our server was aware of the local event and inquired if we were attending, and notified us that she would place a «rush» on our order to give us plenty of time to enjoy our meal. The restaurant was beautiful with a relatively quiet ambiance, considering the hard wood flooring. The tables were arranged spaciously so there was no concern over the privacy of our conversation or having to endure the conversation of other diners. Easy place to recommend for an enjoyable dinner.

Prime dining. Choice Five Star restaurant in a historic setting in the first State Capitol of OK, Guthrie’s downtown business district. We ate here every time we visited our Guthrie family. Now, we live here and can enjoy this gem often. Gage’s has the finest steak and sea food available.

There is a tiny village in Nepal where the Shirpas train for their mighty treks up into the Himalayas by adding weights to their pack. Increasing daily their loads as they hike to and fro from hilltop to hilltop. Subsisting on not much more than yak butter and willpower. They do this in a semi-spiritual exercise that brings them to the Buddhist meditative state of Satori, or the penultimate state of consciousness that precedes Nirvana. This preparation is constant and takes years to truly embrace and appreciate. This is the nearest I can relate the feeling I get when my semi-annual treks to the fine city of Guthrie inevitably lead me on my own journey, not to the heights of mountains, but to the lows of the basement restaurant of Gage’s. Entering the building brings a hush over my soul. A quiet that momentarily leaves me in a transcendent daze until the hostess greets me with a wink and a sly smile that suggests, «you’re in for a treat buddy, hold on to yer trousers.». Unless there is some strange rush, or I was foolish enough to not anticipate the need for reservations, I usually am seated immediately. So my rhapsody does not run the risk of bogging down the interwebs, I will just relate my latest trip. I and 3 friends had an almost perfect meal. We were directed to our table by a statuesque young lady. A creature that roved like the dawn, radiant as the sun, bewitching as the moon, and terrible as an army poised for battle. Then she left to roll silverware. Our waitress was some guy. Salads to start. Steaks all ’round. Some of my companions preferred their cuts medium well, but alas I am not a Godless heathen and so ordered mine almost rare. Just as the dear sweet Baby Jesus intended. I had the ribeye, blackened, smothered in blue cheese butter. Each bite was like a very well-timed and well-placed sucker punch to my taste buds. The gentleman to my right consumed such intense fair that he broke out in meat sweats. We talked a little as one is generally expected to make at least polite conversation during a shared meal. I don’t remember any of it. Just the steak. Dear God. It almost broke me. Fear not intrepid reader as I rallied and defeated the beast. It was a good fight. It was a good death. Swollen and exhausted we once more lurched into the night to find mirth elsewhere, but the scars of that battle, the kind and understanding glances from the staff, the moderinzed rustic charm in the heart of the one-time capitol city will forever leave me changed. I too, like my Shirpa brothers so many miles across this great globe away, have found that state of near perfection that satisfies just enough to leave you eager for more, but patient enough to wait. Maybe next time the bartender will learn how to make a ManCranDan. Then I can, like so rough a beast, slouch once more toward Bethlehem to be born. One day.

My husband and I were staying across the street at the Jaded Getaway, so we though we’d give Gage’s a try. It did not disappoint! I had the pan seared chicken and my husband had the T-bone steak. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The service, the meals and especially the rolls were fabulous. The only downside is if you’re a childless couple looking for a quiet evening, this is a kid-friendly restaurant.

A great destination spot and worth the travel. The atmosphere is very unusual, in the basement of a really cool old building you feel like you might be sitting in the same chair Jesse James might have sat. The steaks are mouthwatering good. A little pricy but most definitely worth the price.

This was my wife and I second time here. My wife ordered the same salmon with cream sauce. This time she felt the sauce was not quite as good but was still good. Her salmon was excellent — very fresh it seemed. I ordered the Delmonico steak and it was great — 4 stars. If i had not eaten so much of their bread and delicious butter — i wouldn’t have had leftovers for today. Yay me!

Solid atmosphere in a roomy basement — went here and got the traditional filet with a glass of red — I would definitely recommend stopping in here if you are in the area — strong meal

The only place I will eat in Guthrie! I’m a sales rep and find myself in Guthrie about twice a month. I generally bring my lunch since there are very few restaurants, until I found Gage’s. You can enjoy an excellent lunch for a fair price in a lovely atmosphere. Their warm rolls make you feel at home, and their customer service is excellent. New favorite(and only) lunch spot in Guthrie!

My husband and I wanted to have a nice meal on our 2nd anniversary. We didn’t get to, so this trip was a delayed outing for the occasion. Our visit to this hidden little restaurant was for their lunch service which I think was a great choice. We were one of two tables that had anyone there. So, it was like we had the place all to ourselves for our romantic meal. I loved it. The design was open and huge inside with brick walls mostly, kind of like a warehouse remade into a restaurant. However with the dark toned tables and lighting, it was very romantic and elegant. I am not sure how that worked but it did. Really. We had the crab cakes as an appetizer, and they melted in your mouth. So, light and wonderful. We shared, one for each of us. Again that romantic thing going on. Then the meals came out and again, the quality was superb. My husband had the Mediterranean tilapia and I had the beef medallions. The tilapia was light, and the medallions were perfectly cooked at medium rare for me. The service was right on, as well. We felt like we were indeed being given the five star treatment, which being so few there, was probably part of it, but from the smooth way the meal was served, I would say this is likely their norm.

Wonderful!!! Everything we had was phenomenal. My filet was cooked perfectly. The pineapple upside down cake cocktail was scrumptious. My husbands food was fantastic. Our friend who came along had the salmon which was also amazing. Definitely eat here if your in the area.

Before you go any further, it’s important that you know one thing; I do not share food with people, ever. But on my first visit to Gages, I had such an amazing epicurean experience, that I simply had to share it with everyone at my table. The Filet of Beef, and the marinade they have created for it, is one of the most incredible fine dining experiences you can partake in. Everyone that tasted it rolled their eyes with delight and I heard a lot of «I wish I had ordered that!» from my dining companions. However, as repayment, I was able to sample their dishes, and I must say that every single one of them(6 of us all ordered something unique) were 5-star dining quality. For side dishes, I highly recommend the twice-baked potatoes. The only negative is that, as the finest establishment on Guthrie, the restaurant can be busy. Reservations are highly recommended on weekends and during the holidays.

I’ve always enjoyed my experience at Gage’s. Tonight I had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken on Fettuccine Alfredo & it was delicious. It could have used some greens of some sort like broccoli but the chicken was very tender & the sauce thick. Hope you enjoy.

Staying in a little BnB in town. Walked to Gage’s. It is very old Town and cool atmosphere. I was alone so I sat at the bar had a couple of drinks and a meal. The bar tender was very enjoyable to talk to. The wait staff offered me some home baked goods someone brought in. I had the almond crusted shrimp. I know I should of ordered a steak but I was in the mood for seafood. Bet nice place to have a meal. I recommend it. I really liked the little town of Guthrie. Glad I came.

This is as close to fine dining as you will find in Guthrie, OK. We were unsure of what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised. The interior is nicely done, but could be more cozy with the right lighting. Still, overall it is beautiful and classy. Hardwood floors, open and airy, tastefully decorated with local art. The food was delicious. Hubby and I split the crab cakes for an appetizer. We are accustomed to Maryland style crab cakes which are 99% lump crab, so we are always hesitant to order crab cakes. But the description of them included Boursin cheese and we couldn’t resist. They had plenty of crab, were creamy and tangy and delicious. My husband ordered a ribeye steak with a pepper butter and side of twice baked potatoes. His steak was good, not the best he’s ever had, but good. The twice baked potatoes were out of this world(he shared a bite with me). Highly recommend! I had the strawberry salad to start. Everything about it was great — well balanced, not too much or too little of any one thing, and the strawberry vinaigrette was very nice. The candied pecans made it really special. My entrée was the veal Marsala. Much to my surprise, the Marsala sauce was probably one of the best I’ve ever tasted. The veal was cooked perfectly — not overdone as many places tend to do with veal. Very delicious. They have a full bar, but could improve on their beer list(I’m a beer snob… can’t help it.) Go here — you won’t regret it!

The food was really good. The steaks were as good as red prime /opus /and other high end steakhouses. We also tried the tomato bisk soup which was so good. The wine list had some good choices on it. My only complaint would be that the ceased salad was some what dry and bland, but probably more authentic. I prefer my ceaser tossed in the dressing and chilled. But that’s really picky. The atmosphere is great and made a fun date night. Service was top notch and friendly.
