Not good for indian/pakistani food. Everything here is either too oily or too bland. I did not find anything tasty for vegetarians except samosa. For non vegetarians there are options but nothing was good for me as I cant eat bland food.

Love love love this restaurant! Best food ever. My husband and I have sat in the restaurant a few times but have been ordering delivery from there for a long while. I could eat the food everyday and the same thing over and over again. Delicious! Great staff who are friendly and good people who get to know you. I will always be ordering from them, no one is as good as them!

The Chicken Saag and Tikka Masala are amazing. The Tandoori Chicken and Naan bread are also delicious. The Value Meal is a great choice to share. It’s a ton of food and gives you a little bit of everything.

myself and my friends were here after shopping at Gurnee and Kenosha malls. This was the closest Indian Restaurant we could find in the Kenosha area. Lunch buffet costs $ 11. very limited options in appetizers and deserts — 1 – 2 each. Taste is not that great. Service and ambiance is good but what is being offered is not worth $ 11

Service perfect. Atmosohere… not a romantic night for two. Let’s be clear though, didn’t go there for that, so no big deal. Food… spice and flavor were solid. Meat(goat and lamb) overcooked and unflavored. Expected a bit more.

The Goat Curry was good and the garlic naan was tasty, 4 stars. The service was on par with waiting at the DMV, 2 stars. Assuming this was an isolated incident, the overall experience gets 3 stars.

I love the food here. It is spot on and brings back a flood of memories from our trip to Kathmandu. Nepali food(at least the kind served here) is similar to Indian food, with a little less kick.

This is the best Indian restaurant I have been to in the north Chicago area. My husband and I order here somewhat often and are never disappointed. The only down side to this place is the price. We spend over $ 50 every time which seems ridiculous to us both but the food is worth it, that’s why we only order for special occasions. It wouldn’t be so expensive if you didn’t have to order all the«extras» which I’ve always had just come with my dishes. I’m use to getting rice and naan included so having to by that adds to the bill a little bit. But overall I can’t complain, the food is always amazing and I always have leftovers. Also because of all the negative reviews for service we have always ordered delivery so I’m not sure about customer service or atmosphere.

Really bad service. Some dishes are good but I make better biriani and I’m not even Indian… they could do with some friendliness from the staff.

Generally, I really like their food. It’s great to have some more ethnically diverse cuisine in Lake County. I’ve only been underwhelmed by their chicken wing appetizer which seemed a little bland and are cut a bit awkwardly. Everything else I’ve tried has been fantastic. Incredibly flavorful and really good spice. What really keeps me from giving The Hymalayan 5 stars is the cost for what you get. Everything is a la carte, including rice and naan. I ordered one entrée, an appetizer, naan & rice for a bit over $ 30. Not bad if it’s enough to share, but the Lamb Chili Masala was equivalent to a small entrée at most Asian restaurants. The whole meal was good for one person, with a small bit left over. The food is great, but it is a bit pricey for carry out.

I rarely give one star reviews to establishments. But this one just completely warranted one. Every Friday me and a couple of buddies from work head out for lunch together. This Friday since it was my turn to choose I chose this godforsaken place based on the«good» reviews. Maybe I should have also paid heed to the not so good reviews. We got here around 11.30am Friday, and were seated immediately, but everything went downhill from there. The server we had seemed to be in a horrible mood and rolled his eyes at us when we said we need five minutes more to decide what we want to drink. I mean damn son, if I am paying to eat at your restaurant, the least you could bloody well do is not hound me about ordering drinks, eating as fast as possible and getting out of there(although that is what I wanted to do ten minutes later) The buffet was, to say the least, gross and abysmal, from pasty veg to chicken dishes missing the chicken. You could do a lot better eating at another restaurant, this place is a bloody miserable joke. Indian food is NOTSUPPOSEDTOBETHISWAY!

My husband and I went in for dinner. It was our first time. It has a dry atmosphere. Very quiet and plain looking. A young male server came up to us. We were not ready. But he could’ve offered to help. He seemed bothered by us. As he was walking away, I told him to come back and help me. He showed me two items. There’s too much on that menu to look at!!! We loved the naam. I had a chicken in an orange sauce. It was very good. We will order for pickup next time.

Should be 3 ½ stars. Decent food and service but a buffet is a buffet and never premium quality. It was tardy and fine. Service pleasant.

Came in for lunch after my brothers Navy graduation. The buffet was gross. Almost completely empty and what was left was dried out. My mother ordered some vegi pasty appetizer. Swear they just picked them from the disgusting buffet because they came like 30 seconds after she ordered them. If they were fresh from the kitchen then wow awful. Lamb kebob was(ground sausage?) completely tasteless and gritty texture. Disgusting. This place sucked. Plus its pricey. The good though is the staff was pretty attentive I guess. Naan was tasteless but warm at least. Pass on this place.

I was initially going to give this place a five-star rating. However, due to the service my friend and I received, I have to dock a couple stars. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived. The servers were at the bar, talking amongst themselves. They didn’t move when we entered. No hello. Nothing. It wasn’t until I said, «hi» when one of the servers gave me an unenthused«hi» back, and took us to a table. To add onto the endless list of odd interactions, our server didn’t speak till we placed our order. If I recalled, the only thing he said was: «Do you want naan?» Then, in came two other diners. I assumed the staff knew these two because all of a sudden, they stopped acting like someone just pissed in their cornflakes. I have to note that these two arrived much later than us. And this is when nepotism came into play. Not only did these two get their food before us, but their waters were consistently being filled while ours remained empty. They actually got their entire meal before we even got our appetizer. So we waited about twenty to thirty minutes– after they got their food– before our appetizer arrived. Furthermore, they ordered much more food than us, so the kitchen must’ve started their order before ours. It wouldn’t be so obvious if they weren’t seated right by us, and had two to three servers catering to them at all times. While I was upset about the lack of hospitality my friend and I were receiving, I can’t deny that the food was delicious. The«Vegetable Assorted Appetizer» was an array of deep-fried goodness that varied in both texture and taste. The shell of the Vegetable Samosa was light and flaky, while the filling was well-seasoned. The Paneer Pakora was an unexpected highlight. The deep-fried batter that blankets the paneer cheese was super crispy, and the cheese was warm and wonderful. Texturally, the cheese reminded me of a denser tofu. It was quite good. As for my entrée, I had the«Chicken Curry» with a side of naan. The curry was also good. It was full of flavor, and the chicken was succulent. The naan was still hot from the oven, and it paired nicely with my dish. It was actually the best naan I’ve ever had. I was willing to forgive this place entirely. That is, until our server carelessly threw down the bill, and walked away. That snapped me back into reality. So, in the end, while the food deserved five stars, the servers deserved none. It’s a shame because I wanted to love this place. However, moving forward, if I were to come back to the Himalayan Restaurant, it’ll be for takeout.

Another successful Unilocal story here. I would never had known this places existed if I didn’t notice some reviews of several Unilocaler friends. The ambiance is very simple, yet very clean and tidy. The wait staff was very prompt, even when the place was somewhat bustling. I went during lunch time and opted for the buffet which came highly recommended and for good reason. If your a novice of Indian or know it well, this is a great place to come. For the novice this is a great place to come and get yourself acquainted… especially during the lunch buffet. During the buffet they have the food labeled well, so although you may not be able to recognize it, you’ll at least know what your eating. Don’t be afraid, dig right in and more than likely, you’ll like just about all of it.(the only exception is the desserts, and generally there is no middle ground… you either really like it, or hate it.) For those of you who know your way around the Indian fare, I think you’ll like this place as well. I lived in India for three years and found the buffet very satisfying, albeit Americanized. Meaning, if your expecting the tandoori to have some good kick, you’ll not get it here.(I’m hoping this changes when ordering from the menu.) The naan is good too and what I like here is they bring out a heap of it right from the start! Defiantly coming back here! Thanks fellow Unilocalers!
