I’m not sure which category the Friendship Oak falls under, as it’s a tree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Friendship Oak is a special tree because it’s been alive for over 5 centuries. The tree was planted in 1487 and has withstood many, many natural disasters. When you enter the university, you can’t miss this tree because there is a plaque for it. The Friendship Oak is a beautiful, magnificent tree that offers shade from the hot and humid Mississippi summer. Its large branches are twisted in different ways and reach out in all directions, some hanging so low that you can climb on it, although there is a sign asking us not to. I found it to be very relaxing to sit at the bench placed under the tree. I should also add that there are other sites worth visiting near here. There is a middle divider for this busy road. If you get a chance, you should definitely stop there to look at the statues that were sculpted from dead oaks. It is definitely worth a visit.
