My local bike shop… my local bike shop which is the only one which deals in Trek Bikes… is a disappointment. I brought my old Trek Navigator in with a request that it be made to be like new again. My final instructions were«If in doubt, change it out.» When I called, they told me today that my bike was ready. When I drove across town to get it, they told me it was not. When I insisted that the manager take another look, he told me it was ready after all. So, when I asked him to bring it up, he went back into the shop only to return with the news that it needed one part installed. When I offered to wait, he left me sitting on a three-wheeler for 20 minutes before coming back with yet more bad news: wrong part. But the old part worked, said he. It was only rusty. I told him I would pay my bill and take the bike home as is. A bit more than $ 500.00 for parts, labor, etc., and a new carrier for the car and guess what. No one seemed to notice the rotten rubber that is an integral part of my ‘comfort’ handlebar system. So when I came home and tried to ride, my handlebars went suddenly floppy. My poor black bike is not yet ready to ride. Like everything else in my life, I guess I have to do this myself. I am glad for all the new parts the bike shop kid installed, but I’m not sure now that I can even trust the work he did. Time will tell, I guess. I’ll start tomorrow. Take off the old stuff, measure it to be sure, and then order the new stuff from the Internet. As much as I would like to be a customer, I’m afraid I won’t be back.

Being new to the area, I wanted to get my 15 year old 21 speed bicycle a much-needed tune up. I found Cyclist Choice through Google and made an appointment. When I dropped off my bike, I was really impressed by the showroom and layout of the store. There was a lot of different types of gear and accessories. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to ogle in detail, so I can’t say how their prices matched with online suppliers. My bike was ready in about two days. It cost me $ 75 to get it cleaned and lubed. I took it for a spin as soon as I got home and it felt great. The two clerks I met with on my drop off and pick up were helpful and accommodating. I think I might have spooked the first one with my assertive demeanor regarding what I wanted and my questions, but it all turned out okay. I am very happy with my bike’s tune up. It’s always good to shop at a local store rather than a big box. I plan on returning for my future riding needs.
