I’ll start by saying I gave it 4 stars based on it being a fast food restaurant which it is. All the other reviews said it was dark in the bathrooms were dirty I found it to be just the opposite. The bathroom was actually quite clean and the dining area was well lit up. I had the spicy chicken combined with mangoes. The burrito actually was quite good. This is my first time here and I will have to find out if it is consistently good the second time? But if you’re in the mood for Mexican and don’t feel like waiting long I would recommend this place.

I’ve been here I would say at least a dozen times in the last two years. They’ve been very very good. However the last two times I’ve been there it’s been downhill. I’m not sure if its due to opening another location maybe the people who usually work here went to that location or different workers in general. I’m not even sure if it’s this location I never pick up the food someone else does but the point is it’s the same owners in the same chain if you will restaurant. They always forget the cheese on my beef burrito even though we always request/remind them. 2 weeks ago on a Thurs. asked for sour cream on the side & they put 8 lbs. of it on I do like a lot of sour cream but not that much. The rice had no flavor /seasonings & they didn’t put any sauce on it no tomatoes & hardly any black beans. I ate ½ of ½ & gave the rest to my father who will eat anything & everything. So this past Saturday they ordered again since they are always in the area. The sour cream was on the side this time. However again NOCHEESE& the rice no seasoning no flavor. No salsa or tomatoes whatsoever tons of lettuce which I didn’t even think was on there. Hardly any black beans. I ate ½ & wrapped other ½ in foil put in fridge. About 2 – 3 hours later I got a little hungry so I heated it up in the microwave. I cut it up in 8 only half of that and started to not feel well so I threw out the rest. Then i ended up getting sick! So pretty much I think I’m done with them! My mother was fine she gets the vegetarian vegetable thing which is not really my thing. My father has a stomach of steel. I’m actually better off eating Taco Bell I go to the one in Branford every now and then and so far everything to me correctly and I’ve never gotten sick and I am NOT a fast food restaurant eater. I’m very disappointed because in the beginning they were very good I was excited that there was a good Mexican restaurant with decent food and now I’m going to have to find another one. The Cuckoo’s Nest was good but I’ve only had them maybe a half a dozen times.

Hope you like eating with bugs, bathrooms, and the lights off. The dining room has chairs piled in the corner and that thing in the darkness… Yeah that’s a toilet. The bathrooms face the dining room and the doors are always left open. Did I mention the dirt. The food itself is hit or miss. I have had a good burrito there, but recently it’s mostly just undercooked rice and diced tomatoes. Also that good taste only comes if you are able to overpower the skepticism that comes with the atmosphere. Oh, and don’t bother reading the menu. They charge whatever they want then hide behind a language barrier which somehow got much greater then it was before you questioned the pricing.

Nice cheap Mexican place. $ 5.50 daily burrito specials are a decent size. Soup is alright too. Extremely fast service, under two minutes for two fresh burritos to come out. No complaints for a cheap and fast place.

Consistently excellent food for the price! I highly recommend their Mango Chicken burritos! Definitely not your usual Taco Bell-level, wanna-be Mexican slop.

My grandmother brought home this ranchero chicken burrito salad late last night for me. I figured I’d give it a try before a went to bed. I took one little but and let me tell you, I was thinking about it for the rest of the night. The next morning it took all of my willpower to wait until lunch to eat it. It wasn’t like any Mexican salad thing I’d ever had. It was like an open burrito. It had everything in the ranchero chicken burrito layered on top of a tortilla with some lettuce(not overwhelming lettuce. Just the right amount). I’ve had food from the Whole Enchilada before(all of it has been SO good) and this meal did not disappoint. So thanks you grandmother for introducing me to this to die for dish.

The food is consistently good and reasonably priced, but I would LOVE for this place to get some real silverware. I end up taking my own in a baggie because the flimsy silverware they provide just doesn’t work on the food they serve.

Really disappointing Americanized Mexican. Not expensive, but I don’t really see why you’d eat here. There are several better lunch options within a couple of miles, and one of the best Mexican restaurants in the state is in the next town over.

Though overpriced, it definitely beats anything usually off the highway! Perhaps simple recipe, but clean and healthy always hits the spot.

I grew up in Southern California and have been all over the Southwest. I love Cal-Mex and Tex-Mex, and I keep hoping to find a decent place for this type of food in Connecticut. Sadly, I’m still searching. This place serves bland, non-Mex burritos and enchiladas, along with completely unrelated foods. Yup, call it Connecticut-Mex. You won’t find anything close to whatever — Mex you crave. Even the chips and salsa are bland. I don’t know how this small chain can survive. I don’t understand why anyone would want to come here when there are so many other good food options. Better no enchilada than a Whole Enchilada.

My overall impression was a bit less than average. Not a great selection and it all seemed to lack a good amount of seasoning. Was pretty bland, even the«spicy» selections. And defiantly over-priced for what we got.

Ethnic food in Guilford is, almost always, disappointing. Everything is toned down. Whether that’s to accomodate unadventuraous palates or because of lack of skill in the kitchen, the bottom line is that you’re not going to find really good Mexican, Thai, Chinese, etc., here. Whole Enchilada is no different. The best I can say about it is that the prices are reasonable, and they’re family-friendly(in that they don’t scowl at you when your kid drops a bowl of refried beans on the floor).

I think this place has changed its name to «La Granja»… Just went with friends for dinner last night. The only other«Mexican» food I have had in this area has been Ixtapa and Angry Burritos… so this review is in comparison to local selection. Obviously I’m not going to rant and rave about New England’s Mexican food and compare it to the fantastic stuff I used to have in AZ, NM, NV, and CA. That would be pointless. When we entered this teeny restaurant the first thing I noticed was the strange«kitchen» setup. There were only 2 employees and they were behind a typical counter. The area behind the counter was strange because it was NOT a kitchen. It was like… a staging area… for assembling the food. There was an island with some supplies and a back counter with what looked like chafing dishes… the kind you would see at a buffet. Food was obviously not cooked here… and all I saw was a hallway to the back where I assume there is a proper kitchen. Anyway, the four of us placed our order: Coconut curry burrito, beef quesadilla, spicy chicken tacos, and carnitas tacos. Each meal came with yellow rice. I had the carnitas, which were surprisingly tasty and tender. Unfortunately both orders of tacos in our group were served in dried out soft corn tortillas… they were not steamed or prepared properly so as soon as we picked them up for our first bite they completely fell apart. Oh well, we finished with forks and knives. The quesadilla looked ok… ground beef instead of shredded machaca. Coconut curry burrito looked decently sized and smelled good. Rice was a filler… dry with not much flavor. On a condiment counter they had salsa verde, which was pretty good, and hot sauce. No other salsa, which kind of surprised me. All-in-all I’d have to say the food was decent. I found it overpriced for what you receive, but I’m kind of a cheapskate. The chafing dish thing kind of bothered me because it left me to assume they cook all the meat in the morning and just keep it warm all day… not exactly«fresh & healthy» as their signs boast. Lack of salsa choices was another disappointment. And to top off the bizarre interior of this place there was no bathroom… a big negative since we had all come from a happy hour and were full of PBR. I will continue my quest for some tasty and reasonable Mexican food in the Have…“La Granja” just didn’t cut it.

I love their gazpacho. I’m glad they opened an outpost in Durham– shouting distance for e and none of the parking headaches!

They just started $ 5 burrito specials, which is totally worth it. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t spend the normal $ 7 when there is so much burrito competition in the area! The burritos are pretty tasty and not at all bland(try the curry chicken burrito!). If you are getting takeout from here, ask for chips(free, but they don’t usually include them unless you ask) and make sure you take plenty of salsa with you.

I only bought Guacamole. They gave me extra bag of chips with it. Seemed very stale and slow for a saturday afternoon. But hey we liked their guacamole. Other items in the menu were little bit pricey. I love Guacamole and this will be guac-stop in New Haven.

WAY overpriced for what it is – very no-frills, inauthentic tex-mex. The only nice thing is that you can get brown rice and soy cheese, though the latter is so bland you can barely taste it.

This place has half-decent food but is grossly overpriced, especially relative to what you get. Most burritos are around $ 7, and guacamole costs almost a dollar extra. The quality of the food is passable but not outstanding. It markets itself as «healthy» but everything is too salty. The portions, however, are quite small. A $ 7 burrito here will not fill up a person with even a moderate appetite. There are no sizes; you can’t get a larger one if you want more or a smaller one if you want less. The style of the food is not very authentic; the only shred of authenticity is the hot tomatillo sauce available in a squeeze-tube on the side. The variety is also lacking; there aren’t that many choices and in my opinion, the choices available aren’t exactly the most exciting or tasty ones. The atmosphere? It’s a hole in the wall with a few tables barely big enough to seat two comfortably, and a very narrow line of bar-style seats up against the wall. Passable décor and half-decent music. But I can’t figure out what you’re paying for. The bottom line is that this is a fast-food burrito place with substantially jacked up prices. There are a lot worse restaurants out there, but I’d still recommend avoiding this one. It would be decent if the burritos were all about $ 2.50 less; that’s about what they are worth, in my humble opinion.
