Please take your business elsewhere: Similar issues– I gave them 50% deposit 10/15/2014 I needed my roof done in 2014 since I knew it was likely to leak. In fact, I gave them the deposit a month before I bought the house since they said they could repair it mid. Nov. Then they said it would be Thanksgiving 2014. When they didn’t show, Pat kept telling me other customers were more important than me after canceling every two weeks. I used to stop by but I was lied to in person & on the phone about the start times and ordering material. In fact, I kept the garage free for the supplies throughout the blizzards in 2015 because I was told they had order the materials. I believed them to a fault, the roof leaked and I have a damaged ceiling, and damaged new floors which could have been avoided.(I would have delayed putting in the floors had they been honest.) I got sad stories for a long time and they begged me not to contact my credit card company to reverse the charges. I fell for it again, and then they stopped responding. I finally contacted the BB and settled on just getting my garage roof done instead of suing them. However, when they did the garage roof in Oct 2015, they did so without a permit and also did unauthorized work on my house without a permit. Then they blamed me for them not getting a permit since I was in a rush. It was not my fault and they showed up late(and it took 2 weeks) to do a single car garage. The company is not licensed, but two of the workers/owners are. I contacted the city building permit dept and they are to file a complaint with the state because no work should be done without a permit. They broke the law and now I have to clean it up a mess. I have my current roofer reviewing their work. It was a lot of stress, and sleepless nights and bickering as well as money working with S&H. I feel like a fool, but once they have your money, your stuck. You won’t see a lot of bad reviews because as part of negotiating getting the work done, they ask for the reviews to be taken down. I felt the arm twisting so I had to keep silent. The garage was done in Oct. But they just send the bill to me today(12/15/2015) and want payment by the end of the year. I also have a problem with the charges, but that is too complicated for Unilocal.I actually liked them as people, and was very concerned that they may have had serious health issues when they didn’t respond to my phone calls and certified mails. Again, I feel like a fool –they were just ignoring me! I liked them as people(which is why I believed them for so long) and wish them nothing but the best. However, please avoid doing business with them. If you contact me through Unilocal,I am happy to give more info. — — — — — - Updated — The seams on the garage were done incorrectly and I am having a different roofer fix it. The seams are coming up off the roof. So sad, but honestly, this is really poor work. I am lucky it is only a garage.

Stay away! Stack & Hughes took a 50% deposit from me last summer for a new roof. It’s been 9 months and no work has been done. Now they won’t return my calls or emails! I think they’re out of business, but who knows. Also note that they are not properly registered as a home improvement contractor in Massachusetts. Check this link, which shows their registration expiring in 2010:

Stack & Hughes put a new roof on our modular built cape house and never put a ridge vent on the roof, although they listed it on the invoice. They never told us about the omission or explained why. When we went to sell the house, we had mold in the attic which could have been exacerbated or even caused by the lack of ventilation. This cost us thousands of dollars. Although we contacted Stack & Hughes, they ultimately refused to help us and we were beyond the statute of limitations and had no legal recourse.
