I am not a health nut but the sandwiches that they make in this place are out of this world. My favorites being the cheddar and the meditteranean. Man, I really cant explain how food they are!

Stopped at sprout house to pick up some yummy Mediterranean quinoa salad and decided to grab a southwest avocado sandwich too. I’m so happy I did because it was delicious! It’s been awhile since I’ve found a vegan sandwich that good! I’ll definitely be going back for more!

You need to search the shelves at this wonderful spot. Always amazed at how much this little store can carry. If you don’t see what you want ask. If they don’t carry it ask they will get it for you if at all possible. I hope they never leave.

The vegan southwest avocado sandwich and the spicy noodles practically sustained my pregnancy cravings. I like the vegetarian jerky strips and the orange chocolate bars. The have good soup and a nice selection of healthy cold drinks. Really good rice pudding too! If you have any questions they are happy to help. They will order something if you need and they don’t have it in stock.

So happy to have this place only a few minutes from my doorstep. I’ve been eyeing it for a few months, but only went in a few weeks ago when I decided to go Vegan. On my first trip I was wise enough to pick up their Southwest Avocado Sandwich(I read rave reviews about it here) and I’m sooo glad I did. I’ve also tried the Reuben(not my favorite but then again I’ve never liked Rubens. and the hummus/veggie wrap which is perfect!) I’m addicted. I have to really stop myself from having more than one a week. Which is hard as I do barre/yoga at the studio right next door! For being such a small store, they have quite a bit! Chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp hearts, gluten free cereal, all sorts of raw nuts, yerba mate tea, are only a few things i have purchased from them. I could easily go to Whole Foods(which I do sometimes) but I really do like to give Sprout House the business. I only wish they had some more space to have a sit down lunch, but I will take it as is for now! They also sell delicious Vegan muffins from Avalon Bakery which I haven’t been able to resist on a few occasions. All this to say, I love you Sprout House. You are a gem.

Love everything about this place. It’s tiny and quaint and adds flavor to the Park’s shopping district. I wish they would move into a bigger space so they can carry more stuff, but I also love their tidy little store and I’d hate to not have them in the Park. They have a small selection of health food staples, but the reason most of us go there is for the sandwiches and other prepared items. The Southwest Avocado sandwich is the most amazing sandwich you’ll ever have in your life. When I moved across country this was the food item I found myself missing the most, and when I moved back to MI, Sprout House was one of the first places I stopped at. The spicy noodles, hummus wrap, and roasted carrots are also favorites. My boyfriend loves the tuna and tofu sandwiches and the quinoa. They also carry kombucha. The only other place that sells it in GP is the health food store in the Woods. Sprout House doesn’t have as big of a selection, but it’s in walking distance for me, so that’s where I go. The staff is friendly, and the owner is very outgoing, and even though I’m only in there maybe once or twice a month, he remembers me and asks how I liked previous purchases. This place offers the personal attention and small mom-and-pop feel of a store from an earlier era. In short, it’s charming all around. If you pick up lunch items, they will always ask if you want utensils/napkins and you are welcome to eat at one of the two small tables at the front of the store. There is also outdoor seating, and public benches located nearby. This little shopping area in the Park is really adorable and starting to get lively with all the new businesses and improvements going on. It’s worth a trip! If you visit on a Saturday in the summer, be sure to check out the farmer’s market on Kercheval too. Great atmosphere and small town charm.

We moved to the GP area during the winter months and this little find was one of the bright spots that got us through our first Detroit winter. This small organic grocery is stocked full of vegan goodness. Whether you’re looking for fresh, seasonal produce, gluten free finds, or an organic grab and go meal you’ll find something that will more than meet your needs here. Plus, the staff is always incredibly helpful and the owners are charming. I see why this little gem has been around for thirty plus years. The sprout house always has at least five yummy soups available. They make their soups in house with fresh, local produce and change them daily. The soups are almost always gluten free. We love the Indian red lentil and the coconut curry. I’ve also enjoyed the tempeh salad, quinoa salad, and tuna salads(all gluten free) out of the refrigerated section in the back. The organic rice pudding is YUM. Another plus is that at this point they are the only fresh juicer that uses exclusively organic produce in the area. The juice ingredient options are a little limited(carrot base or celery base-for an up charge, plus a handful of add in options), but the price is right.

Love this place. It has the hippy pop and health bars from my childhood, and great food in the fridge in back as a great on the go meal option.

It looks like a store that only sells goods, but it’s so much more than that. A nice selection of freshly made sandwiches in the cooler along with daily fresh made organic soups, fresh made cookies, bagged chips, fruit, yogurt, etc. You can put together a nice lunch to eat on the sidewalk café, a picnic or carry out. As one would expect there are solid vegetarian and vegan options as well as meat selections. I really like the smoked salmon sandwich and I’ve never had a bad cup of soup(selections change daily). I also like the option of a piece of fresh fruit to go with your meal, a nice change from most restaurants. The cookies are also made fresh and great

This little shop is one of several ‘health food’ options in the area. So let me tell you why it stands out. Sandwiches. Yup. That’s it. In the back, pre-made, in the fridge case. After seeing Unilocal/the internet gush about this Southwest Avocado sandwich, I had to try it myself. Dropped by, grabbed one, and sat in my car and devoured it. Like. Shamefully. It was great. If you like avocado, you won’t even miss the meat. The combination of flavors… it just made me so happy. I understand the other sandwiches are good too, but my heart belongs to the Southwest Avocado.

Sprout House is my new favorite organic health food store. I really like that they carry a wide variety of vitamins that are not loaded with excess ingredients in them like store bought vitamins are. I bought a couple cans of natural soda. Have you ever bought a can of soda that had less than 6 ingredients in it? I doubt it. Sprout House has them. they taste amazing, sweetened with natural sugar, natural ingredients, no preservatives, its amazing. The insides is small to move around but it is a small store and it takes more than 10 minutes to take everything in and browse around. There is a $ 5 minimum on purchases with a credit or debit card though. So stop on in and check out what Sprout House is all about.

I’m going to agree with Meredith and say definitely not for everyone, but worth giving a shot if you’re into vegetarian/organic/healthy fare. I’m not the biggest fan of avocado, but my coworkers absolutely rave about the Southwest Avocado Sandwich every time they order it. The smoked salmon sandwich was wonderful, as were the spicy sesame noodles and chocolate chunk/sea salt cookies. Would definitely like to stop back in to browse the bulk foods and vitamin options when I have more time.

The Sprout House was one of the very first businesses I patronized after moving to the area, and I instantly fell in love with it. For such a small store, they have an excellent selection of organic/health food products, as well as freshly-baked breads, cookies, etc from Avalon. Their prepared foods have been consistently good as well. I have never regretted any choice I’ve made in their cooler or in the soups. I think my favorites are the sesame noodles and the Indian lentil soup, though it’s all good. They even have a small(but good variety) bulk section! Definitely a plus to living in the Park.

Discovering Sprout House, a tiny health-food store tucked away in a quiet corner in Grosse Point Parke, was by far the best stroke of luck in my twelve month stint in downtown Detroit. Grosse Pointe in general provides much needed relief to those downtown office dwellers that suffer from a sheer paucity of healthy lunch options. But to stumble upon a store there, that not only offers up organic food, but is primarily vegan/vegetarian was something akin to Nirvana! A perfect lunch at Sprout House runs something like this — start out by ordering a fabulous concoction of carrot, apple, ginger — the vegetable juices are prepared by demand only and if you ever turned your nose up at carrot juice — try spicing it up with some additional ingredients that Sprout House offers and be prepared to change your mind and your juice lifestyle! While those juices are churning, ponder over pre-made lunch selections. My life savers have been the southwest– avocado/Mediterranean sandwich, soups of the day, tofu/carrots/green beans sides and wraps. Add some healthy snacks to go — Greek yogurt, coconut water, fruit or cookies and chips — all organic of course! If the sun is shining, grab one of the two tables outside the store, soak in the slow pace of the neighborhood and heck, you may just forget that you are still in Detroit! A 20 min drive back through some depressing neighborhoods expunges those notions quite quickly, but for a break from the downtown lunch monotony, a trip to Sprout House is totally worth it — every time!
