The food is inconsistent. I’ve eaten here several more times since I now live in the area. Yesterday I tried the shrimp étouffée and was very dissapointed. First, it was actually shrimp creole(red sauce). Second, the shrimp were literally the size of a nickel and very very few. Maybe 5 in the whole dish. This place is known for huge portions. This dish was a surprise. It comes with fried fish on a side plate perhaps to save them from getting soggy. The other dish at the table was a tuna steak salad. I’ve been here on other occasions and saw the tuna steak plate pass by me. It looked so good I had to get it this time. This too was a dissapointment. Not seared. Not seasoned. There must be a different chef in the kitchen. I have had decent food here but yesterday was not one of them. Oh and if you get the eggplant parm, ask for it thin. Otherwise you’ll get a thick soggy slab.

I was in there for lunch with my family. I ordered the pork chop platter. When I got my food my order was wrong. Pork chops had no flavor and were dry. My side was the sweet potato fries. The fries were fine. Not interested in coming back.

Service super friendly and nice atmosphere. Seems like every dining and serving was in a great mood. My mom and I split a filet and in still not sure what type of meat we were served. It really tasted like hamburger sirloin. I would not recommend that dish at all. Crabmeat stuffed mushrooms were good and my Caesar was OK. Maybe it was just a bad dish to pick? Will give another try. Banana ice cream cake was yum but I’m sure it isn’t homemade.

Rarely do you get fried catfish filets fried so perfectly. Crispy & golden brown. The shrimp stew was cooked just like a home cooked meal in Southwest Louisiana where I’m from. The potato salad was just how I like it. No clumps of pickles to get in the way. We got the Frog Leg Provencal for an appetizer, and even though it came after the course it was worth it. Usually I find frog legs bland, but the Italian twist gave it a great flavor. The service was fast & all the food was prepared in an aesthetic way. Elmer Fud would be happy.

Home of Da Wabbit is an interesting place. They just finished a big expansion or remodel but it seems like they did it themselves and it’s missing something. Still a decent place with a big bar and plenty of seating. I think the food is ok but slightly overpriced. I recently got a pork chop sandwich and it was pretty good. For as big and nice as it looks it falls short as a top end café. This place packs out regularly so they are certainly doing something right. I’ve only been here a few times and ate at the bar each time and I’ve never had to beg for a drink like I do here. They do double as the take out hub so that’s a factor. Take out is big biz here and may be the way to go. All n all I drive by here twice daily and will be back as I must try a few other items

Just had a work lunch with a girlfriend today. The gumbo was delicious. We enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip. My friend loved her stuffed bell pepper lunch special. So I ordered one to go to bring home to my husband. He enjoyed it as well. I gave it four stars bec it’s incredibly LOUD and it’s under renovation but otherwise service and food was good and we’ll be back.

Easily the worst meal I’ve had in New Orleans. High Unilocal reviews gave me hope, but I felt the need to rank it as I felt it was. The shrimp salad was a romaine lettuce salad with about 4 pieces of small shrimp, and the hamburger steak oozed a pool of fat and oil when cut into. It may have somehow even been deep fried, too. I’d guess this place would be good for deep fried po boy sandwiches, but man, would I not do this again.

I cannot believe I failed to check in here on October 16… ended up on the West Bank by mistake(long story, check my Crown & Anchor review) Using Unilocal to hunt up some good eats came across this place and saw several reviews from trusted Unilocalers and said«This shall be the place where I shall feast!» Place was packed with locals but the gods were smiling and found a great parking spot and got a quick table for me and 2 friends… I ordered the Oyster platter and the friends went with the Catfish platter and the Seafood Gumbo and Club Sandwich… Everything tasted delicious, nice sized portions… hit the spot and was a great meal and excellent start for the night that followed… Go where the locals go and they definitely go here. if I’m back on the West Bank and in need of a meal this place will be on the short list!

My husband and I went here on a whim. I had their famous hamburger steak and my husband had the Monday special red beans & rice, & we shared a frog leg appetizer. It was all scrumptious! The only negative was the fact that our waitress brought us the wrong side dish, and I had to hunt for her to get the situation fixed. I never found her so the hostess went and got the correct dish and said we could keep the one given to us incorrectly. I was okay with that and we happily enjoyed the rest of our meal! I love how the hamburger comes smothered in onions and mushrooms, but the frog leg Provençal app was by far the best. The batter was so flakey, like you would expect on fried oysters and it really soaked up the wine sauce. Even our 16mo son loved every bite! I’d definitely like to go back if we find ourselves on the westbank in the near future again!

My boyfriend brought me here when I was in town and I absolutely loved it. I’ve been there about 3 times now and ordered the same exact thing– a shrimp po boy, fries, and turtle soup. Great food and service!

This place was so gooood. Started with the calamari! Fried to perfection. I cannot stand soggy fried foods of any kind. When I order fried I want some crunch. These delivered! And the marinara dipping sauce was very tasty. We ordered the seafood platter to share. I guess I was craving fried now that i think about it. It was plenty for two people and came with two sides so we each picked a side we wanted. I had a salad with blue cheese(dressing was good! And I’m picky) Jeff had the sweet potato fries. Both we good portions we shared those too! The bill… Drum roll please… $ 35 including a sweet tea. Before tip of course, which reminds me! Service was excellent. Shame on me for not getting her name but she was attentive and refilled drinks on time and often. Try this place if you haven’t. It’s nice in the inside too. The bar area is pretty decent size too. About 8 – 10 seats. I should have got a picture of the platter but we dig in too fast!

Well you can always judge a place by how many utility trucks it has parked outside at lunch time and this place has em all. Always busy but service is fast and friendly. Daily lunch specials and the everyday menu doesn’t disappoint. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

The service was friendly but as it got busier we had to ask for a few things that we ordered. They got them quickly once we asked! The eggplant Napoleon appetizer was amazing! The hamburger steak was really good, but the people around us that got seafood and pastas had food that looked wonderful– I will come back again to try a seafood or pasta entrée. My dad enjoyed his liver and onions entrée and bread pudding dessert. Overall– a great meal!

So… is it Café 615? Or, is it Da Wabbit? What ever name you want to use for this long-time Gretna favorite, you can be sure that you’ll be calling it «Delicious» after you’ve dined here! I stopped in for lunch today with my parents, and even though we got there early(around 11:30) there was already a wait to be seated. Has to be worth it if the wait starts that early, right? After a 15 minute wait, we were finally sat. We had looked over the menus while we waited, so we were ready to order: an appetizer of parmesan eggplant sticks with marina sauce for dipping, a roast beef po’boy to be split by my parents, and an Italian salad with grilled shrimp for myself. The appetizer came out supper hot and fresh and was generously sprinkled with parmesan cheese. It was a huge appetizer, easily an entire eggplant. Hands-down one of the best versions of fried eggplant sticks in the area. The portions all-around here are huge. My salad could have easily been split three ways and was chock full of grilled shrimp, olive salad, marinated artichoke hearts, large slices of tomato, and pepperoncini. They do have half sizes of their salads available on the menu. My only complaint is that the menu claimed mixed lettuce when it was really a few pieces of spring mix among a majority of huge clumps of iceberg. The po’boy shared by my parents looked wonderful, and they assured me it was utterly delicious. Again, it’s a massive sandwich! The meat is cooked until it’s falling apart and is heaped way high on crusty French bread. This po’boy definitely holds it’s own against more well-known versions at restaurants on the other side of the river. Though I may opt for something other than the Italian salad, I will for sure be making a return visit to Café 615 and to have lunch with Da Wabbit again!

Home of ‘da wabbit ’ this place was delicious. The sweet tea was so yummy. I had the bread crumb crusted fried porkchops with sweet potato fries! I loved the atmosphere and all the staff was very nice. Definitely will come back!

We had to wait an hour for a table(we were told 35 – 40 minutes), but the food was D-E-Licious! My SO and I split fried calamari, eggplant sticks, and Da Wabbit with veggies and mashed potatoes. Everything was good. The dipping sauce for the calamari and eggplant was one of the best marinara sauces I’ve had. And the calamari and eggplant were cooked well and seasoned excellently. Da Wabbit was also excellent. It’s a hamburger steak with onions, mushrooms, and gravy. I don’t like mushrooms, but the steak and onions and gravy was fan-freaking-tastic. The potatoes were also good, especially with the gravy. The veggies were kinda meh, but not bad — grilled zucchini and squash. We were very impressed by the whole meal.

Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip without the cheese on top — very good! The club sandwich is fabulous and can be ordered on regular white bread(instead of bun/french bread). My guy ordered Gumbo — he said it was like tomato soup with shrimp. Not his favorite, but also not awful. Side salad comes with crispy lettuce and a cherry tomato. Da Wabbit Burger is marinated meat. It was good, but not as great as the sirloin or duck. Sweet potato fries are very good.

Found this place on Unilocal while looking for a place for dinner on a Monday night. I usually don’t have high expectations for places on the west bank, but here, I was totally blown away, by service and food! My fiancé and I started out w a bottle of Pinot Noir, only because on the menu it says $ 20/bottle. Cheap right?! But then the waitress informed us that prices recently increased to $ 30, which still isn’t that bad so we ordered it anyways. We also started with the stuffed mushroom appetizer and it was delicious!!! It came with 3 rather large mushrooms and whatever it was stuffed with, I was scraping it off the plate! My fiancé ordered the stuffed porkchop. It was so crispy and moist and the oyster dressing was superb! Honestly the BEST pork chop I’ve ever had at a restaurant, EVER! I chose the blackened ribeye. I like mine medium rare so the server suggested to order rare since it is served on a sizzling hot plate. What a good recommendation!!! Bc my steak was PERFECT! Each entrée came with two sides and one of my sides was the sweet potato fries. It wasn’t a side, it was a whole plateful! And they were delicious! Not too large, not too thin, not over fried, but moist and crispy! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here! I already can’t wait to eat the leftovers(the serving sizes were large!) & our server, she was so sweet and so attentive, all evening! 5 stars probably to the only west bank restaurant thus far, from me at least.

Had lunch here for the first time in decades today. Fried oysters & shrimp was OK, the grilled tuna on salad was great; an entire yellowfin steak grilled & sliced on top of a mixed salad. This place is very popular with locals for good reasons ! I say«Try It !» Rick
