After visiting Uptown Sushi several years ago and being disgusted by their sushi offerings, I was convinced by friends to give it another shot since supposedly ownership had changed. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised with the change in lighting and décor from my last visit, but that’s where the positive vibes ended. We came in at lunch, and at the time there were approximately four tables in use, our table of five, and three tables of two. We placed our orders and chatted while waiting for our food. Shortly after, the numbers drop to just our table and one table of two. An HOUR goes by, drinks are empty, no food in sight, and finally our server returns to turn off the«OPEN» sign(since they close during midday) and tells us our food will be out shortly. Another 15 minutes later, and plates start arriving at our table. Someone I assume to be a manager makes a very pointed remark that normally they don’t serve edamame with the lunch, but they ran out of salad(it was obvious the little bit of salad on our plates was the bottom of the bag). So we were supposed to be happy that we received our meals over an hour after ordering during what could not possibly be considered a lunch rush, all because we got some free edamame? Come on now. It took the waitress another 10 minutes to take care of refilling four glasses of water and a glass of Dr. Pepper. This was honestly one of the few times I contemplated leaving zero tip(I didn’t.), and that’s saying a lot. To be completely fair, the food was decent, but for the price you can get better lunch and MUCH better service at other hibachi/sushi locations in Greenwood. Not to mention you’ll be out within an hour instead of two.

i go here fairly often when i’m in greenwood, but after eating much better sushi there’s no way i can give uptown higher than 2 stars. the rolls are very basic and don’t really stand out. quality is ok.

I’ve been to this place off and on over the years since it first opened, and I have to say that the food has come a very long way. The current owner used to reside in Japan, so he well versed on the food and preparation, we’ve been told. This is the place I tried my first sushi, so it is near and dear to me. Even though I have been to some worldly places, including Japan, I think that their sushi is very good. Now they have expanded their menu and offer hibachi lunches and dinners that are excellent. Beautifully prepared and served in little Bento boxes. Excellent flavor, generous portions, made-from-scratch salad dressings that are amazing served on a beautiful fresh salad. The service staff is mostly college kids, but they do a nice job being attentive and personable. Its kind of lively and fun with nice music playing. Good average wines and a nice beer selection. The owner was on the floor making sure his operation was running smoothly. Customers are aware of his presence without him having to come to the table to ask ‘is everything ok?’ Owners should know that, in my opinion. This place has come a long way and seems to be doing better and better. Its nice to see it on the up-swing. :)

Subpar sushi shouldn’t surprise anyone in a city in the middle of nowhere the size of Greenwood. This place does have excellent service and dinner might be good but the quality of the fish and perhaps inadequate technique leave something wanting. I give them credit for trying in Greenwood, and if you’ve never had sushi, they will do an adequate job of introducing you to it in a friendly, well priced, helpful environment. Just don’t expect stellar fish.

Evidently in Greenwood, this is the place to get sushi. You know, it’s hard enough to get people to try things, but if this is what people associate sushi with, then there are some real problems. I’ll be honest, there isn’t a whole lot going on in the city of Greenwood, but for any that might be out there for business, or passing by on their way to… 96(?) here’s a quick hit– don’t eat sushi here. People who have never had sushi might think this place is alright, but for any sushi enthusiast, don’t bother looking for good Asian food in this area. Stick to the meat and threes and sweet tea.
