Mountain Meadow Hunting Resort

Mountain Meadow Hunting Reserve is a full-​service hunting preserve located in the beautiful hills of West Virginia. Without a doubt, I recommend this place for anyone interested in hunting – both seasoned hunters and newbies.
My buddy and I (from the DC area) had been talking about learning to hunt for a while now. Without the experience and without knowing someone with property, we were at a loss. After scouring the net and ready a bunch of message boards, it became apparent that the best way to learn to hunt was by going to a game preserve where we could pick up the necessary skills, and also be guaranteed to leave with a kill. With a little more time searching the web, it was very clear that Mountain Meadow was the best and most professional place in the area.
Upon arriving at the preserve (about 4.5 hours from DC), I couldnt have been more pleased. The hunting lodge itself was absolutely gorgeous, overlooking a lake and the entire preserve. The lodge had all possible amenities – full kitchen, satellite tv, pool table, wifi – all the while maintaining the rustic feel of a traditional hunting lodge. The owners of the resort were absolutely fantastic. Brandon was incredibly knowledgable and very accommodating. Jose, his assistant, was also great helping us get set up and fitted out. We ended up spending two days on the preserve, basically just hiking around and stalking our prey. We ended up with two boars and an elk between the two of us – more than enough meat to last the year. Brandon and Jose helped us field dress, butcher and process the meat, so that we were able to bring everything back in coolers.
To those that say preserve hunting isnt «sporting», a trip to mountain meadow will prove you wrong. The preserve is enormous and, while still fenced in, was incredibly authentic. I liken it to fishing in a stocked pond – the fish may not have been there naturally, and your odds of catching something are higher than if you just found a normal pond – but you still need skill, patience and luck.
Brandon and his team demonstrated incredibly professionalism, great service and value. In addition, you can tell that the reserve values the environment and cares about responsible and safe hunting. I will absolutely be back myself, and couldnt recommend this place more highly!
