What can you say? It’s picture day… no one’s excited to go. But today wasn’t that bad. It took 25 minutes from the time I got my number until I walked out of the building. The man who helped me — meaning, the one who asked for my info and took my new picture for my driver’s license — was extremely friendly and efficient. Although I usually dread going to the DMV, today was a pleasant experience!

First– this place isn’t closed! I was there this morning. Second– not the best DMV experience I’ve ever had, but far from the worst. Note that Pennsylvania requires you to bring your social security card– unlike other states I’ve lived in, your passport doesn’t serve as a replacement(but will work for your second form of ID if you don’t have your original birth certificate). You also need to provide two documents showing proof of residence. We showed up around 11AM, and were first in the line for relocation licenses. The employee I worked with on paperwork was on the surly side, but made no mistakes and got the job done. The guy in charge of taking your picture and printing your card was pleasant, and make sure I was at least okay with my picture before committing to it. Getting a new driver’s license costs $ 29.50, check or money order only. We were on our way with temporary licenses and voter registrations in under an hour, so no complaints. DMV trips are a necessary evil, but this one was less evil than most.
