Stopped in today for the first time in a while. My last visit would have had a lower rating, so I guess it’s a good thing I waited! Brandon took care of us and he was attentive(but not overbearing), friendly, and knowledgable about both the food and beers. We started with the white bean, roasted tomato, and prosciutto bruschetta. Lightly seasoned and delicious. Then, we had a half New York New York and half Cherry Lane pizza with daiya cheese(dairy/soy free). Cherry Lane is an old favorite with country ham and pistachios, while the NYNY was a new choice for us and had tasty pine nuts and lots of fresh basil on top of Giacomo’s sopressata and arugula. It was all delicious and I think I have a new favorite! Good selection of craft beers, not all over-hopped like some places. Definitely a little pricier than the chain pizza places, but the ingredient selection/quality as well as the atmosphere make it so worth it!

Chose this place for a Sunday adventure. It did not disappoint. It is in a super cute neighborhood. Parking here can be a challenge. You may have to drive around for a second to get a spot. The lot is very very small so you may have to park on street. The out side is cute with old bicycles built into the wall that separates the parking lot from the outdoor dining area. I loved the interior. Nature meets rustic industrial-ishness. Chandelier from the branches type of cool. We were seated right away by a very nice waitress who very quickly brought us waters. I love when restaurants do this with out you having to ask for it. CLASSY move. We ordered the gold app(fried mozzarella) and the rip it(focaccia with dips). The red sauce that comes with the rip it was really good and fresh. The restaurant totes that it sources a lot of ingredients from local sources. We recognized a lot of the vendors names. They get their sausage from our favorite Italian market Giacomo’s. The gold app was so so good. Three hunks of mozzarella with roasted tomatoes and this pesto that was from heaven. Seriously this pesto may have been the best I have ever had. I literally mopped up as much as possible from the plate without running my tongue over the whole thing. We got the pizza that was on special. It was a garlic base caramelized onions goat cheese grapes sweet Italian sausage. An amazing flavor combo. The grapes worked so well with the tangy goat cheese and the savory garlic and caramelized onions. But let’s talk crust. These pizzas are wood fired so the flavor was there from the start. The texture of the crust was crispy and chewy at the same time. It also had the perfect neutralness so the toppings shined through. We had a very nice meal. We finished it off with a piece of cheese cake by cheesecakes by Alex, a local bakery. It was turtle and very rich and decadent. I think we will go back if for nothing else to have more of that amazing pesto.

Let’s get one thing straight, this is one of the best wood fired pizza joints in town. From the time you walk in, the ambience hits you with awe in a sense of casual and eclectic style. Next up is the food, that knocks you off your feet. From your first bite to your last, it’s like landing on the moon. If you are fortunate to live in this area, go and give Sticks a try. You will not be disappointed.

I really like Sticks & Stones Clay Oven Pizza. Located just down from the campus of UNC Greensboro, tucked within a charming little historic neighborhood on a side street, this pizza restaurant is quite unassuming from the outside. However, once you step indoors it is very charming. With wood accents and incredible carpentry everywhere adding to warm green and brown tones, the ambiance is beautiful. They have some really quirky and cool bar stools made out of wood and rebar that you definitely have to see too. The pizza is delicious. The crust is our favorite part… warm and crispy. The sauce was a bit on the bland side, but the fresh toppings more than made this pizza a winner for us. One caveat however was the soda. I’m not sure if it was just a fluke due to a drink dispenser that needs cleaning or if the soda itself was bad, but the diet coke didn’t taste good at all. It had a sort of mildew type of tinge to it. Definitely not appealing. We skipped it and drank the water that had been given to us at the beginning of our order. Soda aside though, the food was great, and the ambiance as well, so I highly recommend Sticks & Stones. They have parking(albeit limited) just out front, but just a block down from the restaurant there is an open parking lot where there is plenty of parking.
