They have very good fried chicken, sides are decent, but the biscuits are shit. They seem like canned biscuits to me.

Mrs. Winners prepares some of the best southern style fried chicken I have eaten. The chicken is crisp, tender & juicy. The batter reminds me of traditional home cooked fried chicken. It is much better than KFC. They also serve very good sides(bbq beans, slaw, green beans, potato wedges, etc.). The bbq beans are a favorite of the kids — thick & sweet. The green beans are not your traditional southern style with pork seasoning. These taste like the beans were cooked in beef broth which was unique & very good. The biscuits are home-made unlike the frozen variety found at KFC. The chicken was very well received by our out-of-town family at a recent picnic. The prices are very reasonable & much less than their competitors. They always have a multi-piece special with biscuits & they even throw in a half gallon of sweet tea.

What was Mrs Winners, and then was Umphy’s, is now Mrs Winners again. Stopped by to pickup some chicken for a quick lunch. They offer 10 pieces for $ 10, which is a nice price(not quite as good as Lowe’s, but nice) — but those 10 pieces do not include any wings — which is rather bogus. Chicken is tasty, with a nice crust, and mildly seasoned — but it is a bit on the greasy side. Better than average chicken, but not a regular destination place for us.

This fried chicken joint,. part of a regional chain I’m not familiar with, was the last stop on our honeymoon before heading home to Roanoke, and it was just fine. A step below Bojangles, perhaps — the breading wasn’t quite as crunchy — but tasty and prompt. Damnit, now I want Bojangles.
