My favorite deli, the food and service is always great. My husband and I call this our favorite romantic restaurant, we came here one Valentine’s Day because we got a late start. We joke that they shut the place down for us because we were the only ones there! Try the Reuben, the best I have ever tasted! Gonna miss this most now that I am a vegetarian! Also the hot chips are the most!

The owner began yelling and screaming at us that we were lying and gross. We complained about the young female african american waitresses putting hands on my body parts and other female customers in our group. The hand went on our behind. We asked the waitresses for a refund on our purchase. The would yell at as, talk back rude, walk away from us in middle of talking to them about orders. told us that they are not required to write down our order. we got free beverages. everything wrong. and not volunteer to do anything for us. not volunteer to give us menu, wait on us, give silverware, napkins, drinks, food, bill. they threw the bill on the table. the owner started yelling and screaming at us for 10 minutes. the white older male, obese. WE called the credit card agency and they said we not have to pay for anything.

Unfortunately, this was my first and last visit to Jay’s Deli. I was not impressed. As soon as we walked in the door, I was pretty anxious due to the crowd. I didn’t find there to be a TON of room in this place. We came in with 3 adults and 2 young kids… With strollers. They ended up squeezing us in right at the front but we were pretty much in the way. The menu had a bunch of sandwiches(both hot and cold), salads. We chose this place because my friend thought this sort of «mom and pop» restaurant would have SOMETHING her almost 1 year old could eat. She asked for a side of veggies, NOPE. She asked for a scrambled egg(since they had omelets on the menu), NOPE. She asked for a side of fruit, NOPE… At that point, she said forget it. There really wasn’t anything a young child can eat there.(We were also wondering — if they had omelets, why we couldn’t get a scrambled egg and something was mentioned about how they are PREMADE… Heh??? PREMADE omelets? And they are just what, heated up? Eh. Our adult meals included: a bowl of chili, hot chips, a Ruben, kids chicken tenders and I got a club salad. Eh, for the $ 7-something price, I would have thought it would be a little better. It was supposed to just have: lettuce, tomato, turkey, ham and bacon. I asked to have some cucumbers added to bulk it up. The salad dressing was packaged– Ken’s. Our server was pleasant and food came out relatively fast. All in all, unfortunately not impressed. Would rather try out other restaurants in the Friendly Center next time.

Another family favorite as it covers all the bases for the kids and for the most part the adults at the table. Jay’s has been around forever and we have been frequenting it for at least 10 years. The menu is standard fare and offers decent value for the portions provided(this has actually gotten better over the past couple of years). While the food is not spectacular I cannot recall ever having a bad meal or poor service. In fact their ability to deliver consistent service and food has kept them in our rotation. If you live in the Friendly Center area or are just there shopping Jay’s is worth a stop in.

Jay’s is an institution around here and it still is a good place for lunch. The Reuben and potato salad(or other side) for $ 7.39 is my personal favorite. The old place, across the parking lot, served The Mason, which they’ll still make for you. Roast beef, slaw, and Russian dressing on rye is one of the best sandwiches in town. I love Jay’s as do most folks over 50. You’ll notice an older crowd in here. A newer feature is a decent craft beer selection. Service is good at most times but it can get slammed and overloaded especially around the holidays. 4 stars may be a tad strong but I round up for any place still in business after 50 years.

No! No, thank you. The place is cute, yea it’s adorable inside and I like the old timey shtick they put on but yuck that food is blah! I ordered a burger. Yea, a burger, simple enough. It was by far one of the most processed tasting burgers I’ve ever eaten. It was dry to the point of almost being crumbly. The only flavor was provided by the cheese and over cooked bacon. Eeck. I couldn’t finish even half of the burger before I was all done. I figured, «Well hey, they can’t mess up carrot cake that bad.» Wrong. I’m not sure if there was just s lack of moisture in the place that day or what but the cake too was dry and tasted old. I doubt very highly that I will return.

Very casual place to eat… went there for a quick lunch and the placed was packed at 1:30…so I new I was in the right spot… I had the Ruben which was great… The only thing I was not expecting was the single serving size of Kens thousand island dressing… but it was a great sandwich just the same… I will definitely stop for another when in the area…

Just so inconsistent. I keep coming back every now and then becasue when it’s good it’s good… But from food, to service as well, this place is just so up and down.

Moved here from Michigan and Ive been trying to find similar food establishment. So Ive always loved a good hearty roast beef swiss on rye at a deli. Tried Jays as I was in the area. Added potato salad(mustard) Now I know that areas will be different in the way they serve things so I went with the flow. What I got was an undercooked roastbeef that reminded me of grocery store roastbeef. Mustard potato salad that should have just been called«mustard n mustard» and the bread was your standard thin sliced bread from a bag. Maybe I was spoiled — but when you ask for a deli sandwhich youd think youd get some thick hearty bread. But No. And being in a deli youd think youd get a pickle with it. But No. Ill try it again… but this time around was not impressed. Wait staff was good.

I have tried this place 5 times. The waitresses are friendly but not efficient. they have never brought my entire order. I have to ask them to bring the remainder… I order ice water, a sandwich and a bag of chips… three things must be more than they can handle. The prices are a bit high which wouldn’t be bad if the food was good but today was the clincher. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. I consider this to be easy enough. but the first bite was full of gristle and the second bite was a glob of chicken fat. A tip… the bones, fat, skin and gristle do not go in the chicken salad!.. I just ate my bag of chips which took 20 minutes to arrive after my sad sandwich arrived. I do hope this was my last time at this place.

I’ve been going to Jay’s for years and the food is always consistenly good, not great but good. The service on Sunday at 12:30 was VERY slow. I was alone so sat at the counter. I ordered and waited 25 minutes for my food. They were very busy but it shouldn’t take almost 30 minutes to get a sandwich. They are serving their incredible croutons on the salads again after a long absense. How can fried bread be a bad thing? I wish I had known before ordering a sandwich!

i have been to many Deli’s in the area and by far this place has been the best. As other reviews have stated it can get quite loud in here, however; the food is definitely worth it. I had a bowl of gumbo not was it only hot but perfectly seasoned. I also had a Turkey BLT and fries which were also outstanding and better than any BLT and fries I’ve had throughout Greensboro and High Point. Finally the wait staff was also superb and very attentive. Highly recommend this place if you have never been.

This is another one of those«been around forever» places(been in Friendly since 1956, was at another location before that) that we hadn’t visited in quite a while, so we stopped by for lunch today. They serve a variety of sandwiches, salads, burgers, soups, and do a big omelet business from the looks of it. It was rather busy early as was the whole shopping center, sales I guess. This is not a big place, and when crowded it is rather noisy, as it was today with many loud little people in attendance. We tried Jay’s Deli Club($ 6.99) with Hot Chips as a side; their Cheesburger with FF($ 6.29), and a Chili Dog($ 3.89). The club was the classic construction — Ham, Turkey, and Bacon with LTM on white toast — and was very nice. The Hot Chips are done in house, and are excellent, though the ranch dressing was a package of Ken’s Steak House dressing — a little cheesey that. The Hot Dog was very ordinary — it is a small dog, with average chili, and the onions were those awful purple ones that are way too strong. It is way, way overpriced — would not order this again. The Cheeseburger is also on the small side, especially considering the price, and also was rather ordinary — not bad, just ordinary. The FF weren’t bad, but were poorly seasoned out of the fryer. Cokes were $ 1.99. Service was excellent — both friendly and attentive in a busy environment. Probably will come back, most likely not on a weekend, and try an omelet, or another sandwich — but I don’t consider this a destination kind of place. This is not an inexpensive place, and can be noisy — so not for everyone.

Torn between 3 and 4 stars. It was kind of cute, the staff was very friendly on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon in Greensboro. The sandwich portion was about right, not too big. The sandwich was good too. When I’m in the area I’ll be back.

We were really disappointed. The pastrami was almost non existent on my sandwich and not much flavor. Lox Stock and Bagel for now is a much better hot pastrami sandwich.

Given the crowds that Jay’s attracts for lunch, it’s astonishing that there aren’t any reviews. My wife and I are regulars and eat lunch there three or four times a month. Based on our and others’ ‘revealed preference,’ someone must like it. The attraction for lunch is a large menu that includes hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads, subs, and even omelets. The soups rotate, and there are daily specials. The ‘specialty’ side dish is hot chips(Jay’s own fried potato chips), but salads, fries, onion rings and other items are available as sides. The food is solid but fresh. With the large menu, there’s likely to be something that you will like. We don’t get terribly excited about going there, but we also haven’t had many bad experiences. The service is always good; the only issue is that there can be a line when the restaurant is crowded. If a restaurant could be a piece of clothing, Jay’s would be a comfortable flannel shirt(probably with a soup stain).
