Jams Deli is one of the best restaurants in Greensboro. The Chickham is the best sandwich on the menu.

Jam’s Deli is a Greensboro institution. I’ve been eating at Jam’s since I required a height chair(I’m now in my mid-twenties), and it will always hold a special place in my heart. In many ways, the restaurant is very much how I remember it when I was a kid: vintage, charming in that local hole-in-the-wall way, and friendly. Although my taste in food has grown along with my height, Jam’s Deli always hits the spot. The buffalo chicken sandwich is one of my current favorites(and it’s ENORMOUS), and their egg salad is great as well. My only complaint is that they’re closed on Sundays, but I can’t really fault them for that.

This is one of those places that makes me wish Unilocal allowed half star ratings, because I would definitely rate this a 3&½, and I think a 3 star is too low and a 4 star is too high. I chose a 4 star because it is definitely above average as far as restaurants are concerned. I believe this is meant to evoke a dinery or divey atmosphere, and if that is the case, it nails that for sure. They have good sandwiches, good salads, and pretty good soup. They have a soup of the day which rotates depending on the day of the week. I believe I had the potato soup on Monday, and it was pretty good. It’s definitely not the place to go if you want a unique experience because it is run more like a cafeteria or food hall. They do have some cheesecake available for dessert, which is good, but not spectacular. They do also make hot dogs, but they boil the dogs, and then put a bunch of toppings on them such as chili, slaw, onions, and others. It’s not personally my type of thing, but I have a friend who swears it’s the best hot dog in Greensboro, so to each their own. The prices are very good. You do get your money’s worth. The customer service is ok. The people I have seen were courteous, but seemed more interested in hanging out with their coworkers and talking when I have visited. I wonder if that is because I always went in the late afternoon after work. Still, this is a pretty good place. You could do worse than come here for lunch or dinner.

Delicious sandwiches with plentiful portions, friendly counter service, and raspberry cheesecake — what’s not to like? I don’t understand why people are harping about the décor or no table service, it’s a DELI, for cryin’ out loud, a great locally owned alternative to all the usual nearby fast food crap. Highly recommended.

Jam’s does a number of things well, but one culinary area they absolutely nail is salads — Potato Salad(as good as mine, and that hurts a little), Egg Salad, Tuna Salad, Chicken Salad, and Pasta Salad — you didn’t really thing I was talking about those salads with greens, and sticks, and twigs, and sprouts, and those creepy, little cherry tomatoes, right? And just behind the salads, are the soups, which vary daily. The Potato Salad is, indeed, their best effort — consistently fresh and tasty! We often order it by the quart to go with fried chicken or baked ham for family outings. But, there is nothing shabby about the other salad choices, we enjoy them all. The soup today was Chicken Corn Chowder, and it was excellent — loaded with tender chicken chunks, corn, and a nice amount of potato. We also tried the Onion Rings, and these were a disappointment — obviously frozen, and the batter is too heavy. Always good service here.

After hearing our friends talk highly of this place, my husband and I finally gave it a try and were highly disappointed. We’re not super healthy eaters or anything and occasionally love a good juicy cheeseburger. But the food here was exceptionally greasy and we both felt sick to our stomach afterwards. To me nothing was memorable about the taste. I’m hoping maybe we just caught them on a bad night.

Best place for quality and price. Eat there weekly and never had a bad meal. Everything made fresh! Owners work on site so if ever a request or problem they are there to accommodate! Best value in town. Burgers are awesome!

Great food, nice people! Stopped here for a quick lunch. Ultimate Chicken was the perfect size and the curly fries were great.

Jam’s is a Greensboro favorite and their food is both delicious and affordable. The owners are nice and always friendly and the service is pretty speedy even on busy days. I’ve taken 1 star off because if I could change anything it’d be to have them experiment w/their menu more. I’ve been going here for over 12 years and the menu is basically the same as it was when I first visited. I wish they’d experiment with new sandwiches as well as making their own fries and hot chips instead of using frozen, out of the bag fare. The good: * Buffalo Chicken Sandwich(awesome) * Fish Sandwich(huge, crispy & yummie) * Hamburgers — They rival the best triad burgers * Potato salad — not overly mustardy or salty * Brownies — Really good, moist The Could Be Better: * The hot chips — Sometimes greasy, limp * Anything on toasted bread — Jam’s doesn’t really toast their bread slices, it’s really just warmed. Gotta ask for it extra toasted :-/ * Gotta remember to ASK for a pickle, wish I didn’t The Bad: * Parking — At lunch it’s a pain, plain and simple

Every visit to Jam’s has been a success. I’m a big fan of the chili dogs & pasta salad. I like a sweeter pasta salad & Jam’s has it(as opposed to the Italian dressing pasta salad some places sell). My friend loved his burger & curly fries. The seasoning on the fries is enough to get him to return!

Lived here in Greensboro for about 4 years now and cant believe I hadn’t discovered this wonderful place till yesterday. I always drive by there when I have another place in mind to eat so this time I made a point to rememeber Jams deli and to try it out. Was suppose to try it out on sunday but they were closed which is how I ended up at Carolina Diner. This place def blows that place out of the water. its cheaper, the portions are huge and they have awsome curly fries!!! I ended up having to get a togo box for the fries cause I had so many :-) I def will be a regular at Jams deli now!

Jam’s has been around for a long time and offers very good sandwhiches, really good soups, and salads. The sandwhiches make you think of a really good home-made sandwhich. Their fries are really good, too. Locally owned, Jam’s is a good choice for something a little different than the more typical chain restaurants.

Food is great. Price is right. But… Hate that the food prep workers do not wear gloves. That is bad with the Ebola and everything else going around.

The fish sandwich is a family favorite! And that it’s the special on Friday makes Jams Deli a family favorite for lunch and dinner!

It’s been around forever and has consistently good food. The atmosphere is fun, and the restaurant has a very friendly cleanup staff that always keeps the tables spotless. The parking situation stinks, but you can usually find somewhere to park.

I gotta say right of the bat — 4 stars only based on the quality of their food. Its high quality food offsets the typical 3 star balance of the experience — Its pretty much an open funky themed interior with lots of booths and tables, no table service as you order at the front, self serve re-fills, self cleaning of tables… Their soups are made fresh daily — i have recently tried the new england clam chowder and the chili — both were really good. On Friday’s, they have a grouper sandwich special which is a super fresh and large filet of grouper that is fried and served on a bun — lightly fried and really moist! Great place for lunch!

You’re definitely doing things right when you can stay in business as long as Jams Deli has. I’ve eaten there many, many times over the past 20 years and little has changed — it’s always good. The potato salad is awesome — same delicious recipe they have always used — when it’s perfectly delicious, there’s no reason to change it! I love the Veggie Jam, the Chickham, The Reuben, The French Dip. Excellent value, comfortable for dine-in, convenient back parking lot and entrance for take out and WOW, they will fix it up for you fast!

I have been going to Jams Deli for years. I used to live and work in the Guilford College area of Greensboro, where Jams is located. And I’ll admit that now that I live much farther away, whenever I do make the trip across town it’s largely out of nostalgia. It’s one of those places where you find one or two things on the menu that you just love and you’ll keep coming back even when it takes 15 to 20 minutes to get to that part of town from home. For me, one of those things is the buffalo chicken sandwich(mine with no tomato and no mayo). I just had one tonight for the first time in a good long while and just loved every bite, just like I always have. The curly fries are great as a side, as is the pasta salad. I was happy to see on this most recent trip that they are now doing homemade chips as a side or as a basket. The place has a family-friendly layout, décor, and atmosphere, as the«oldies» station is always playing. The cooks are friendly and rarely have I been there and not seen the owner also working the line. If you live in the Guilford College/New Garden area of Greensboro, Jams is a must-try. I would definitely recommend it to anyone from any part of town who hasn’t tried it yet, too.

Good food. Fairly fast and reasonably priced. Parking in back is very limited.
